Billiards and Bowling anyone?

I must first say that without the Billiards and Bowling side games, each of my ratings would have been at least two stars lower. I just cannot give a quality rating to a game which sets up scenarios which are absolutely impossible. Anyone who has played this game knows that there are a few "passages" on the expert and advanced levels which cannot be completed.
Considering the little spare time I have in my life, don't dangle carrots in front of me when you know I can never reach them.
The main game of Monkey Ball is at first challenging, and certainly unique, but, especially in this first addition, it quicky becomes monotonous and frustrating as you find yourself always taking the easy routes to defeat levels, considering the difficult routes are, literally, impossible.
Still, when you earn enough playing points, you can unlock Monkey Billiards and Monkey Bowling. Let me state right here that Monkey Bowling is an undisputed top contender for best multi-player fun on any system. The physics and playability are quite realistic, and the benefits of playing a video game version of bowling in which you chuck bowling balls with monkeys inside rather than the stale, stereotypical black version, simply cannot be expressed in words. Once you become a master at monkey bowling, it never ceases to be enjoyable to contest friends in matches as well as play individually to try and make the top 5 leader board.
Monkey billiards is a side game I have recently become obsessed with, and like bowling, offers astoundingly realistic physics and gameplay. One drawback is that nine ball is the only pool game offered, but I have found that playing nine ball on this game has catapulted its position on my "favorite pool games to play in real life" list.
Overall, the benefits of this cheap game cannot be denied. While the main game and the annoyingly challenging Monkey Golf will find themselves forever neglected by this player, Monkey Billiards and Monkey Bowling will live on as perfect multiplayers, and fantastic single-players when complimented with a nice heavy metal backdrop for the audio, and an atomic cocktail to create that real pool hall/bowling alley ambience.

When I got my gamecube, I thought really hard about the games (50 bucks a pop!, you've gotta). People who haven't played the game think it (is bad). Thats judging a book by its cover. When I actually started playing it, I put down Madden, THPS3, and yes, even the coveted Rogue Leader. It is awesome! If you get over your head in the very complex single player boards, try the "mini" games. don't let the word confuse you, they aren't mini at all. A complete 18 hole golf game, bowling, and an incredible 9 ball game. My personal fav. is Monkey Fight. The punchy hand is wonderful (sorry for the "punchy hand" phrase, my roomate and I came up with it while slightly intoxicated and it stuck in the house). SMB (no, not super mario brothers) has the widest variety of games, and with a little bit of work would all be worthy of their own title. A must have for and gamecube owner.

This game is practically the best i've played in years. That little monkey can really get on your nerves when you find yourself falling off repetitively, but, somehow, you just play it again, swearing in your mind. Fun, High Replayability, and Addictive.
Frustating but rewarding

Jeez, Level 15 of Advanced is hard. But when I beat it, it felt gooood. That's what SMB is about, simple yet complex. The basis of the game is extremely simple, but the way the courses are constructed makes the game extremely difficult as well. If this game had only it's normal mode, going through designed puzzling tracks, it would be a mediocre game.
The game features, however, tons of multiplayer action, ranging from Monkey Target (bombs away!) to Monkey Golf. These are the games that make Super Monkey Ball the #1 value game of the launch lineup of the GCN.
Having played this at San Francisco CubeClub, I knew that this was a game I'd have to play again. Out of the three games I purchased, this one has gotten the most playtime. I just want to beat that next level! It can definitely be frustrating, but you can see your own progression as you get more skilled at controlling the monkey ball. And of course, practice mode comes in handy for figuring out that most difficult level.
I can't wait to get deep into expert mode. I'm sure I'll be dying a lot, but that's just part of the fun!
I know it looks stupid, but it is pretty good.

One of the nicest features is that many of the minigames can be played by four people using as few as one controller. This is really nice if it'll be one of the first games you buy for the gamecube, and you don't have $... to buy extra controllers right away.
The main game (which you have to play to unlock some minigames) doesn't appeal much to me. It actually requires patience, which I don't have. I'm used to running through games with guns blazing, not slowly moving to make sure I don't fall to my death. The Expert difficulty is too hard for me, but I hear if you beat it you unlock a harder difficulty!!!
The selling point to this game is the multiplayer mini-games. You'll love them. In Monkey Target you basically hang-glide your monkey to platforms trying to earn the most points. Get three friends together and try to outscore each other. It's a great competitive game where you don't have to fight against each other.
Other games include Monkey racing, fighting, bowling, billiards and minigolf. You only have to play the one player game for a short time to unlock the last three.
The graphics (and the sound) are somewhat disappointing, but don't let that stop you from playing this game. I wasn't sure I'd like before I bought it, and now I can't live with out it.
Wicked fun for everyone

My family enjoys the Mario Party games, and are always looking for games that are similar in gaming style. This is a really comparable game with a lot of interesting ideas. There are many ways to play each with benefits.
There is regular play which is much like the old "Marble" game, piloting a ball up and down slopes, across narrow passages, until you reach the goal. It gets harder as you go higher in stages. In this method of play you can earn points to unlock more games such as bowling.
In party mode, you can race, fight, and play monkey target (my personal favorite). Monkey target is rolling your ball down a hill, and then taking off for flight at the end of the ramp. Then you navigate the ball through the air trying to reach one of the targets. Close the ball when you think you have good aim, and hope you stay on receiving points for where you landed on the target.
Definately a good game for a group of people, and entertaining enough to hold a solo player's interests.

My wife and I bought this along with Luigi's Mansion and our Game Cube. We play it so much. We beat all the levels, and opened all the mini games, and play them all the time. SOme of the reviews here are right on, the levels can get very hard very fast, if you give up easily and don't follow anything through to the end, you will never finish all the levels. Those who claimed to have finished it all in an hour obviously didn't play this game. All teh hard levels are doable, and the unlocking mechanism, forces the player to improve at playing the main game while opening new games at a steady and comfortable rate. A good game for individuals, a perfect game for families.
This game is Highly addictive!

Warning: this is a highly addictive game!
If SMB is a sign of things to come, then game playing is moving in the right direction. SMB has enough hidden extras to keep you playing and playing. The multiplayer options are top notch and the mini games and bonus games add more depth to this already amazing game. It is an excellent party game, and you will enjoy its over 100 levels (quite a few hidden).
Sega did a great job- This is a must have title for GC owners.
Fun and very addictive!

Super Monkey Ball has a little cutsey-wutsey look that makes the game look like no one older than 7 can play. But inside that look is a tough game with addictive gameplay like an adlut to cigaretts. They have bowling, mazes, pool, target, fighting, and racing! The game has everything and blends them together into a perfect mix.
