More fun than a barrel of Monkey Balls!!!

Super Monkey Ball is a fairly simple puzzle-type game. You start with your monkey, who happens to be trapped in a hamster-ball like sphere, and you go throught the various floors collecting bannanas and fighting the clock to reach the goal. On the surface it is indeed a simple concept, but getting through it can be maddening...the good, addictive, time-killing type of maddening.

I actually picked up this game for the multiplayer features before getting hooked on the single-player game. 6 multiplayer modes are available, 3 need to be unlocked through the single player mode. Fight mode, racing & target mode are all available from the get-go, with racing being the most fun for me. You pick up power-ups that can be shot at your opponents as you lap 6 different courses, trying to hit the finish line first while not falling off the sides. Fighting has you & your opponents perched on a platform, trying to push each other off with the aid of power-ups. Target has you rolling off of a ramp and onto a floating target, trying to outscore your opponent while avoiding randomly-determined hinderences such as mines, clouds & bombs.

With much to unlock, many modes of play and easy-to-learn gameplay, this is the perfect choice for testing out your new GameCube.

So why is this game better than the other launch games?

This game is the best game I have played in a while. Not only does the game come with the mega popular arcade mode, but the publishers have added in several multiplayer minigames including Monkey Bowling, Pool, Racing, Boxing, and Golf. The reason this game is better than any of the other launch games is that 1) it is the only game with a really solid multiplayer and 2) for sheer playablility this game is the best. Don't let the cute little monkeys fool you. This game is hard! There are four levels of difficulty in which you try to roll the monkey past the finish line controlling the board. Now this may sound easy and it is the first few levels, but try beating level 90 on intermediate and you'll see what I mean. This game has the most depth of any launch game out there so for a first choice, choose Monkey Ball!

The Most Fun Addicting Game You Can Get

This game is so darn addicting and fun. You're a monkey in a ball. Hey adult gamers, WHO CARES ABOUT HOW "CUTE" THE GAME IS? THIS GAME IS ONE OF THE MOST CHALLENGING, FRUSTRATING, AND HARD GAME I'VE EVER PLAYED! There's three party games...

Monkey Race: A standard racing game where you control the monkey around the track along with some items to help you. There's six race courses, each with a different theme.

Monkey Fight: You have a boxing glove, along with the other players, and you got to try to punch your opponents off the stage. There's three different stages. There's also items to help you win.

Monkey Target: You go down the ramp and then your ball opens and then you fly. There's targets floating on water, and your goal is to land on the target with the most points. There's items to help you, yet the wheel of danger wont help you at all.

Now there's three mini games.

Monkey Bowling: Standard bowling, yet with monkeys! There's also a challenge mode where it gives you a situation, and you got to try to knock all the pins down with one roll.

Monkey Golf: Simple mini-golf, yet with monkeys!

Monkey Billiard: A game of billiards, but you gotta put the nine ball in to win.

Now, in the main game, there's four difficulties.

Beginner: 10 levels that are pretty easy. If you can beat all 10 levels without dying, you will get to try 3 extra levels.

Advanced: 30 levels that are pretty moderate. If you can beat all 30 levels without dying, you will get to try 5 extra levels.

Expert: 50 levels that are freakin hard! If you can beat all 50 levels without using a continue, you will get to try 10 extra levels. If you can beat all 50 levels and the 10 extras without using a continue, you will get access to master levels.

Master: 10 levels that are practically IMPOSSIBLE!!!

Addictive game with replay power

We've rented games for our GameCube regularly since Christmas and this is the first one we decided was worthy of purchase.
Monkey Ball bundles several games in one package. The core is a variation of a maze game (which requires more hand/eye coordination at the middle level of difficulty than our 8 and 9 year old girls can muster). We play that game some. The "party" games, which include a racing game with six tracks, a boxing game (its cartoonish and not violent), and a target game which combines something resembling ski jumping with parachuting onto a target get most of the play. These games are addictive, work great in multi-player modes, and have remained fun weeks after purchasing the software.

The other games included are a bowling game which we give some play, a poorly designed mini-golf game, and a nine-ball billiards game that's mildly interesting.

We've rented a wide range of games for the Cube including SSX tricky, the Simpson's Road Range, and Pikmin. These other games are good, but this one's the only one that has remained engaging after several rentals.

Our two girls, 8 and 9, never tire of the racing and target games and play the other modules

A great game for all ages.

Everyone can have fun on this game. It will take you through many levels of "obstacle courses and mazes." This game also has multi-player games to play with friends or family. You can play monkey fight (a game in which you try to knock your opponent of the edge of an arena), monkey target (fly over different layouts of dartboard like targets and try to land on the highest point area), or monkey race. Of course, the one player mode can be adjusted for two to four players. You can also win bonus points in one player to unlock more mini-games. You can unlock monkey bowling, monkey golf, and monkey billiards. The graphics are excellent and you can have fun playing this over again. This game is the most fun, however, when you play with more people. A great party or family game for all ages.

It's great!

Hey everyone, I just wanted to say that supermonkey ball is a nice, safe and fun game. I really enjoyed the racing. I played it with my brother and we had a great time. This is a good family game. There are a lot of party games to choose from, and they are all fun. So if you were thinking about buying it you should, I promise you won't regret it!

A Fun Filler In-between Other Games

Although Super Monkey Ball might not be the most complex of games available, it certainly can be very engaging. For those of you who don't know about this game, it basically involves moving a floor to make a monkey in a clear, plastic ball move to a goal. The three levels of play for the single-player main game are Beginner, Advanced, and Expert. Beginner and Advanced are both fairly easy, but when you get to the later levels in Expert, you had better be willing to devote a few hours to beating them. If navigating a 3D puzzle isn't your thing, you can choose to play any one of six mini or party games, including billiards, mini-golf, bowling, fight, race, or target. The first three games are pretty straight-forward, and can be played with up to two people. The latter three are capable of being played with up to four people. While playing fight, you command a monkey with a boxing glove attached to the ball, and you try to knock other monkeys with boxing gloves off a platform. Race needs no explanation, and target makes you launch your monkey off a ramp and then try to glide over the ocean to targets. The problem with Super Monkey Ball is that the game hardly ever has the correct difficulty level, almost always being either too hard or too easy. So far most of my time has been spent playing the mini-games. If you're a big party or puzzle gamer, then Super Monkey Ball is for you. If not, I would recommend a rental first, as Super Monkey Ball is a very quirky game with a certain taste needed to enjoy it.

One of the best launch titles! By Gamemaster Jason

I have a ps2, an xbox, and a gamecube now, and I got a whole bunch of launch games. My favourite for the cube is super monkey ball. The music is very good with different music in almost every stage and the mini game music is just fantastic! I love the monkey billiards mini game. I always beat my friends at it. I read this other review that said "If you are not afraid of heights already this game wil certainly make you". I laughed for hours at that stupid review. This is one of the cutest games out there. The person who wrote that must not be buying metroid, wrestlemania or perfect dark 0 for their kids! Super monkey ball offers tremendous amounts of amazing graphics and should be a part of your collection. While not as exciting as Super Smash BROTHERS Melee (WHICH I HAVE), AND while not as mysterious as rs2rl (I ALSO HAVE), this game sure is great! Get this game now and YOU, Y.O.U will love it!

I have a 7 year old boy and 11 year old girl. This is something that the whole family can play together. It's a blast. Even my husband enjoys it. We love to play the target and racing game. You play against eachother so it's a great game that all 4 of us can play. I highly recommend this game!!!
