Summary:
Star Fox Assault is a great game for those who follow the Star Fox series and for the occasional gamer who wants some quick fun but probably won't interest hard-core gamers and/or people who want a really long and involved game. The graphics are better than average but not stellar; ditto for music. The story/mission mode is far too short and can be easily completed in less than ten hours although the storyline is fairly entertaining. Missions themselves aren't really complex but are definitely fun while they last. The multitude of weapons and vehicles add lots of variety: blaster, machine gun, rocket launcher, grenades, mines, Gatling gun, sniper rifle, jet packs, motion-activated rockets, tanks, Arwings (air fighter), and Wolfens (air fighter), amongst a few others. Multi-player is pretty fun and extends the game's life span as long as you can find somebody else (or many people) to play along/against with you.
In the end, it comes down to whether you are a die-hard Star Fox fan or want something to keep you entertained and busy for hours on end. If you're in the former, get the game; otherwise, wait till the retail price gets to $20.
Recommend with Reservations.

This was a nice little diversion. The game is very well-done. The graphics are great and the sound quality is perfect. The story could have been better- the story itself was fine, but it was far too short. 10 missions for the single-player mode is not enough. You play as Fox, the leader of the Starfox team. There are three different kinds of missions- on foot, where Fox has to make it on his own using the weapons he can find; Landmaster, in which Fox is airdropped a tank to fight with; and Arwing, where Fox uses his signature Arwing spaceship to dogfight in space.
However, it's versus mode where the game really shines. You can play as the characters from story mode, including Fox, Falco, Krystal and Slippy. Wolf and Peppy are unlockable characters. You can unlock different weapons and stages for versus mode as well, including the viciously powerful Demon Sniper rifle and the Zoness Sea Base from Starfox 64. You can customize each fight from picking the area down to what types of vehicles and weapons are allowed. My personal favorite is what I call 'Hide & Seek'- missle launchers only in Corneria City. Take cover!
The only problems I have with versus mode is that first, there's no way to have teams. Players just have to make alliances and hope their teammates don't get in the crossfire. Second, there's no 'practice mode' or any way to fight a CPU opponent in versus mode. This wouldn't be a problem if single player mode allowed you to play as someone other than Fox. This was a good game while it lasted.
Bitter disappointment.

What a let-down this game is. Seriously, is it too much to ask for a solid flying game like Star Fox 64 was? I mean getting out and walking around shooting things is great and all, but this is a STAR FOX game, and the last thing I would buy a Star Fox game for is to run around and blow things up, especially when there are other games out there that fulfill that type of game play so much better. I was expecting the bulk of this game to be spent flying around in an R-Wing....boy was I wrong.
Do yourself a favor if you've never bought a Star Fox game before, go to a pawn shop, get a N64 and buy Star Fox 64. You'll thank me when it's over.
Sequel to Starfox Adventures is here!

I have saw the box for this game and from what i saw on the back it looks good. The review above mine is correct from what I saw on the box except i think you can play as Krystal too. For those of you that have the Starfox Adventures game, you know what I am talking about. I am not quite sure if it is exactly a sequel to Starfox Adventures, but its the same kind of game. The only difference I think there is is that you can play as different characters than Fox, its multiplayer, and you get to do more missions in the Arwing. It looks good to me, I hope my review will be helpful to anyone who reads it.

Star Fox Assault is a wonderful game!!!I think it has TOO MUCH
graphics and not enough action.I have already beat this game and
at the end you fly through a really long tunnel after that you
get to the aparoid queen and break off her armor and hitting her weak spot while blasting her larvae she spawns. Then you fly through another tunnel and blast her 4 eyes watch out for all her beam and stuff and once you've done that you blast this armor on her head and shoot her other weak spot (on her head)and
blast her some more and YAH!!!!! All the aparoids are gone WOOHOO.The four player mode is also a nice thing and that is what
makes this game so good.
Boy was this bad!!!!!!

This game was one of the most anticipated titles for Gamecube since it was announced in 2003. But it was delayed. And Now that it's FINALLY out, it was definetely not worth the money. The graphics are really good, and the music is really entertaining, but besides that it's terrible. The story is one of the worst I've ever seen in a video game. The voice acting is monotonous and all sounds like the actors are reading straight off the script, and just saying the words. But the biggest problem is the terrible controls. The landmaster tank is impossible to drive, and Fox can't even turn around well. This game has some okay rail flying missions, but the areas you fly in are too small to move away from things you can fly into. I loved Star Fox 64 on the N64, and hated Star Fox Adventures. There have been no good Star Fox games since 1997. If this series wants to continue, there needs to be a good game. If there isn't, no more Star Fox games will be made.
Good starfox title!

Good one! The gameplay is almost right. But they gave us more than what I wanted! The cool thing about it is that you get to choose what type of control style you get! The bosses in this game are pretty wicked! The multiplayer lacks a little. The game does not have many levels, only ten, but it has a good six hours of gameplay, which I have to admit that thats pretty short. But the flying levels make up for that!
Over all I'd say you should rent it, not buy it! But if you like it that much you should buy it! I'm not holding you back!
Someone had to do it.

I was looking at some of the GC titles I own and thinking, "wow, they really screwed that game up," when it occurred to me that Star Fox Assault is probably the best (as in worst game ever!) example of this. So I strolled over to Amazon.com to see if I was alone. Phew, loads of people agree with me, however, everyone needs to stop giving Nintendo points for trying. This is a ONE star game. (The only reason I gave it two stars for fun is because I owned Infiltrator for the original NES, I know what ONE star fun is!)
The second you see Fox standing there with his pistol, the ONE star light should come on. If I wanted to see Fox running around, I would have bought that stupid Star Fox Adventures game. (P.S. Star Fox Adventures fans, grow up and get Halo on X-Box.)
Everything said by those reviewers who gave this game two stars is completely true. (Except the two star part.) Give me an Arwing or give Star Fox death.
