Don't Let Looks Hinder You

Many people can argue that Skies of Arcadia: Legends for the Gamecube isn't up to date with graphics in games today. Those people would be right. However, this is an INCREDIBLE game nonetheless. Its easy to follow, combat's innovative yet interesting, the Arcadia world is huge, and this game is overall plain fun. If you're not an RPG fan, I'm not entirely sure this would be the game for you. If you are, however, then have NO hesitation picking up this game. As said in the title, don't let looks hinder your decision. Even though there is no voice acting, there is a very interesting story line. I literally spent over 50 hours playing this game (the game tells you how many you've played). This is because the games length is unbeatable because there are so many extra things one can do. You can choose your path and maintain your crewship and everything. I myself am a huge RPG fan meaning I have played hundreds of RPG games. Hands down, this is in my top 5 favorite. If a game company remade this game with uptodate graphics and voice acting then this game would be the best.

Three words: buy it now.

I can't remember where I first heard of this game, but wherever it was, I wasn't too interested at first. At that point I was trying to figure out a way to get Kingdom Hearts without a PS2. Heh... well, needless to say, that plan sort of backfired, so I searched my mind like crazy to find a replacement. Finally, it came to me: that game! That one with the pirates! Skies of Arcadia Legends! (Just so you know, I'm also a hugely obsessive fan of Pirates of the Caribbean...) Anyway, to make a long story short, I bought this game from EBGames (for $75, yes, but it was worth it!). The story was so addicting, I loved the characters, the gameplay was great, the graphics clearly displayed people's emotions and set the mood in the different locations, and the music was beautiful. I got so obsessed with this game that I would play it all the time, and when I couldn't, I read the manual over and over again. When I finally beat it with trembling hands, I was so depressed that it was over... Still, it entertained me greatly for over 80 hours (I had to get all the extras, of course), and since I'm playing it again it obviously has to be good. So, what are you waiting for? If you own a GameCube, you've just GOTTA pick this game up!
Good luck, future Air Pirate, and never give up!

A Great RPG: Instant Classic

Skies of Arcadia is an excellent RPG you shouldn't miss out on. The graphics do their job, the sound is excellent, and the story is decent. The battle system is a mix of party battle and ship battles, while a little lengthy and way too frequent, your wanting to play just to get to the next area. I haven't played a game like this in a long time, a game where you want to really explore the world rather than rush through a story. 4/5, random battles knock it off one point because they are obsolete.

Best Rpg Ever

This is an unbelievable game. The story line is excellent even though the random enemies get a little annoying. Well woth the 20 bucks. If you like rpgs other than FF you'll like this one. This doesn't have long cinematics around every turn like FF. The ship battles are incredible especially when you get you ship Delphinus and your secret base. Desrves more than 5 stars but that's all I can put up on this

Personal rewiew 100\100=fun 100\100=overall

Great Long-Term Gaming

This game provides alot of gaming time, if you like. I'm sure you can whiz through it, but there are tons of side missions to provide hours and hours of adventure. I logged around 80 hours and every minute was fun. The only downfall is one side mission, making "Discoveries". Some are very difficult to find and make it a bit aggravating. But the game is really worth some minor annoyance. The battling is simple, yet strategic and you can even Battle Ship-to-Ship. Upgrades in equipment, magic and weapons give you alot to work with. You even end up recruiting members for your own crew.

Strengths: Great characters - Great battle engine - Great

Great sense of exploration - Awesome music composition

Weaknesses: Story - beat the evil empire. Not original.

This game is a port from the old Dreamcast console, and already well-loved amongst DC owners. Sega renamed it "Legends" to signify that it's been upgraded: The Cube verson has improved graphics & also fewer random battles (thank you), plus extra sidequests.

The story is basically the same as previous RPGs. A good guy (you) gathers a team of people, explores the world, and decides to defeat the evil empire. What makes Skies different is the "pirate style" to the game, that gives the player a great sense of exploration, and also allows a new kind of battle - ship vs. ship - lining up broadsides & firing the cannon! On top of that is Sega's usual polishing - interesting/lively characters, good graphics (even at 5 years old, they still shine), and great music to make you tap your feet.

This is actually my *second* copy of the game. I bought it new when it was first released..... played it..... sold it..... and now I bought it back for half-price. If I had been smart, I would have kept it, but I didn't realize at the time how superior Skies of Arcadia is to other RPGs.

Bottom Line - Buy it. You'll love it. :-)

Here's the deal...It was a slow time in the game market. I already bought all the games I wanted and other games I wanted weren't coming out for a while. I went to my local...lets call it "Toys R Us" for the sake of this...and picked up Skies of Arcadia. I'm not the biggest RPG fan finding the sometimes boring if turnbased. There was just something about this game though. The story started to grow on me, I became attatched to all the people I met, I actually started to like the battle system and there are Airships and floating islands!!! How cool are airships?!?! The battle system is actually cool cause you can change the color of your weapons when you get new items (not giving anything away) that are either good or bad against enemies. The graphics may not be the best, but thats because this is a port of an old Dreamcast game. Don't go out and buy the Dreamcast version though cause you'll be missing out on a whole lotta extra side quests and even a whole new story. As you can see I am very excited about this game and I would highly recommend it to anyone. Why only a 4 you say? Well I'd have to give a port a 5, otherwise I would have.

This is one of the top five games on the gamecube. I've had this game for a while and I still love it. Great storyline, great combat system, great everything. Sure, battles get a little repetitive, but it still rules. I stayed up most of the night playing it. Plus, the girls are hot.

I find it a tad bit odd that people say this is the "best RPG for gamecube" when it is virtually the ONLY RPG for gamecube. Now lets see, there is PSO, but hardly an RPG if you ask me, though it is rather fun...and...no wait, thats it. So, this game is pretty bad, graphics suck...the story line...ick, and the battles are so very pointless, I loath them...now I know people generally are not all that keen to run into monsters anyway in RPG's, you just want to get to where your going. But at least in most, the battles are well spaced out, and acctually have some remote challenge to them. Thats the realy problem here, is the challenge. The battles come one right after another, and they hardly ever vary, and even if they do, you can still kick the oponents A$$ in about two seconds...yeah...dont even bother playing this game...its a waste of time and money, even if you just rent it. If you own a PLay station, just go out and get a whole bunch of old RPG's instead of wasting your time on new ones, cuz really the only good RPG's out now are Golden Sun, and soon FF tactics advance, and Fire emblem should be coming out soon. Ehhh, but here are some good old PS RPG's, Chrono cross, and Wild Arms, All the FF games, And Lunar all those. And for SNES, FF 3, and Chrono trigger, and Oger Batlle, march of the black queen, but those are all pretty hard to find.

A great addition to your Gamecube Library!

If you like RPG's like FFX, or Pokemon .. then I highly recommend this game. I've had a ball playing it.
