At first there were a lot of people talking bad about the graphics but in the end they loved it just like they loved the cel shaded graphics on Zelda The Wind Waker. This game is basically like the first Paper Mario but has new moves and a better story line. The story line is serious but it does have its funny moments. For example, in one cut scene you see a PC that talks and is falling in love with peach so it lets her use him to send messages to Mario. The game is not so long but it is definitely challenging and fun to play. If you are still not convinced this is a good game then at least rent the game and give it a chance.

This game is great! It's very complex and challenging, and some challenges such as finding the ghost in the champion's room or defeating Hooktail aren't immediatley doable but still fun. I wouldn't reccomend this game to younger gamers but to veterans? Go for it!
The best Gamecube game out there!

Some people that reveiw this game think at first sight, "This game will be very stupid because its graphics are so cute that they're girly." I disagree, since it isn't the graphics that make the game look good or not look good. Some people, when they play the game for awhile, they think it either follows the original too much or they think it should follow the original more and Nintendo is just adding overkill, such as the battles in front of the audience. I think it is better than the original because of the things they call "overkill". For example, the battles in front of the audience instead of in the field make it more challenging, since you have to pay attention to the audience to make sure they aren't going to throw something like a hammer at you, but also make sure you're not going to hammer someone that is going to throw a heart point at you. Overall, I think it's a fun game and you should at least give it a try if you're either a Mario or RPG fan.
awsome!!!!!!!!!!!

I am a ten year old who is a huge mario fan. This specificaly is one of the best. Some people are rating this wrong. This is a perfect five star rated game. Now this game has same combat as the n64 one but this one you get badges that give you more strengths and attacks. This game is also great because the further you are the harder and more breathtaking it becomes. The combat is fun and the bosses are cool. You couldn't go wrong with this game. One of the coolest additions is getting more characters. As you progress the game becomes more challaging but you have the help from the partners you get after chapters.what you get out of this game is nice gameplay and the last boss is inprobable. If you beat the game give your self a round of applaus. If you're looking for my of my reviews go to super mario 64 ds and my name for it is one of the best games I ever played. One thind else to say is the great 2d graphics and the sound is awsome. You must get this game.
Great for people who don't live for video games

I don't play a lot of video games, and never quite got the hang of simultaneous movement and jumping required in the original Mario Bros game. I love the new trend in video games with more story development and puzzles with less requirement for special moves. This game suits me perfectly. There are lots of interesting story developments and challenges for my brain, not my thumbs.
In battles, for example, the attacks are turn based and in two dimensions. So if like me, you have some difficulty in aiming, there are fewer movements required at any given time. If you are talented with the controller, you will have an easier time and do much better since you will be able to use those skills in executing special moves, stylish moves, and "action commands". The game is also frame based, so when I am trying to move through an area, I can kill the enemies first and then navigate obstacles without having to worry about being attacked since enemies do not regenerate until you leave the frame. There are interesting puzzles throughout the game and sidequests that I liked a lot. It kept me very entertained for the entire duration and I will probably play again.
BTW, I am an adult female. The original Nintendo system came out when I was a kid. I didn't have one and was never very good at it anyway. I came back to video games with the release of Nintendo 64 and the Super Mario Bros 64 game. I'm not very good at that one (simultaneous button pushes and sensitive navigation), but love playing the story-based Nintendo games much better than the shooting games. If this sounds like you, you may also love Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door and the first one for Nintendo 64.
Yay!

I got this game for Christmas. Being the Mario fan that I am, I immediately started to play it. The graphics and sound aren't anything special, but the gameplay makes up for it. I love how you can choose partners, and have multiple ones (yay because I can't stand Koops or Flurrie). The battles are easy, but not so easy that you'll get bored with them. I haven't tried the Pit of 100 Trials yet, but that will be fun too. The only thing that I would say wrong with this is that it's really short. I'm pretty close to beating it. But it's really a great game.
This is a good game!

I beat Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door today. It was one of the better games I've played and I highly reccomend it to everyone. If you've played the original Paper Mario, expect more of the same, but a lot better quality.
The gameplay is great: The battle system is near perfect and there are many ways to level your characters. The partner system is also vastly improved upon from Paper Mario 1 (IE, your partner has HP; is actually useful). In this game, you have new abilities that take advantage of the "paper" type graphics. You'll learn to fold yourself into a paper airplane, a boat, turn sideways to inch through small spaces, and roll into a tube to navigate awesome mazes.
I'd also like to touch on two things that are improved upon: The script and the final boss.
The script is much more well-written and uses a lot more intelligent (and some good unintelligent) humor. Also, this time the characters all have something we in the business like to call DEPTH. Instead of simply joining your party for no reason whatsoever like in PM1, the characters have lives, friends, and some kind of relationship with Mario. For example, you'll meet up with three evil sisters called the Shadow Sirens early in the game. You'll beat the living snot out of them (naturally), but periodically the game's plot will shift from Mario and show their story. It turns out that Beldam, the leader, is abusive to Vivian, who is somewhat forgetful. Beldam blames Vivian for losing an important item and forces her to find it under the penalty of a beating. Vivian has a complete and total breakdown and starts bawling while continuing her search.
Mario enters. His friends have just deserted him because an imposter has stolen his body and is masquerading around as him. Looking for help, sees Vivian and talks to her. When he learns her plight his heart softens and he helps her find the item which turns out to be a bomb meant to kill him. Vivian agrees to help him regain his body, not knowing he's Mario. The two track down the imposter, who turns out to be in league with the Sirens. Vivian, after a little confusion, learns that she's been helping Mario, the man she is supposed to kill. She breaks down again and leaves Mario to fight alone. Midway through the encounter, however, Vivian realizes that Mario is the only person ever to be nice to her and deserts her sisters to join him. The two topple the doppelganger and regain Mario's body. Vivian, lovestruck, joins Mario's party for the rest of the game.
And the final boss? Well, first of all, let's go back to PM1. You fought Bowser, who even though powered-up was about as strong as an old lady on defective steroids. AKA, he was weak as heck and took two minutes to beat the living snot out of without losing even half your health. Now? You fight a boss who not only is inches from invincible, but can take off a third of your health in one move if you're not careful. And if you're careful? She takes off a fourth of it in one move. And she can attack at least twice every turn. So, you better watch your back.
Just one more thing I wanna mention: there's a great sidestory that you can completely skip if you don't like to read. If you search around the main town, Rogueport, you'll occasionally run into your brother, Luigi, who tells you some hilarious stories of his recent adventures. Did I mention Luigi is hilarious? Hilarious!
So, that's Paper Mario 2. Go pick it up.

Another great mario RPG game is born! No, really. This is a very good game. Of course made by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo, what would you come to exspect? And I mean that in a good way. Now to get off of the personal note and back to the game. The atmosphere in the game is excellent. The way they mastered the paper form of the game is very good. The music is both funny and fitting. The way you can upgrade your characters is suprising, because at the beginning you'll think you can't do it at all. The game is so full of humor that it is sure to make you laugh and keep you coming back for more. Plus don't forget about all the badges you'll get through out the game. I enjoyed this game and I believe you will too. Remember: "Be a customer. Not a comsumer! Period."- Jake Smithers.

It is fun to make Mario a paper airplane, paper boat and roll him into a tube or spring. Being a role playing game there are many things to do to get to the next level. Most are easy to figure out what needs done next but some are a little tricky. But you do not need a guide to enjoy this game. There is a lot of fighting involved and if you do not enjoy that then stay away from this game. There is no blood and gore. Some of your opponents are even funny. If you get stuck, there are many places that have walkthroughs and guides on the internet to seek help. It is a fun but sometimes aggrevating game.
