Well I want to tell you one of the reasons I love this game so much. It's because when you beat the final boss, instead of it having the fnal scene, credits, and finally forcing you to turn the game off, making it so that you lose your data and must continue from your last save, like you never beat the game, it has the scene, the credits, ANOTHER scene, and then it goes back to the game. It's all happy and peaceful in the game, and if you go back to the place where the final boss is, it's not there.
But don't think the fun's not over yet! You see I like games that are fun and that you can enjoy after you beat them. You can still find enemies and battle them in it, revisit all the towns, explore, battle, etc. also this is an rpg (role-playing-game) where you collect items, have turn based battles, etc. unlike super paper mario. But it is still REALLY fun! There's also nice music. Intellgent systems and nintendo are really great copanys. This is one of the best rpgs ever. If you like paper mario 64 (the first paper mario game out of the three, for the classic Nintendo 64, the games go Paper mario 64, Paper mario the thousand year door, super paper mario) rpgs, or awsome games, then get it!

Paper Mario-The Thousand Year Door is a fun game. In fact, when it comes to anything by Super Mario, this would be ranked in the top 10. It's so fun the way the stage is set up when you fight an enemy. Mario and his friends has many great moves that can help him in his battles. You get to run around the map and talk to people, and some people say some funny things. The game is set up differently than other Super Mario games that are normally played, but at the same time, it's still fun.
The problem I have with this game is the mass amount of dialogue. Yes, this game is sort of like a storybook, but it gets real boring after a while. In fact, after you beat a boss and get a Crystal Star, expect a 20 minute dialogue of reading, and it;s usally about nothing at all. That is the only problem that I have with this game. And sometimes, it's hard to figure out where to go next (and that guy who lives in Ancient Rockport doesn't always help you out), so that gets real frustrating. But overall a fun game. If you grew up playing Super Mario, like I did, this is a fun game to play. Peace!

I loved this game! It was so much fun. RPGs are my favorite types of games, and Nintendo really delivers with Paper Mario The Thousand Year door. The storyline is fun, and the gameplay is great. The fighting style is innovative, as you fight in front of an audience, and as you level up, the audience grows, refilling your Star meter faster. The Pit of 100 trials is a nice add-on bonus (it's not required, but it's fun, not to mention challenging!). Bobbery is favorite secondary character, as he can blow up the walls. The Paper Mario ability is great fun, as you can become a boat, airplane, and even a roll! Highly recommended to anyone who like Mario or RPGs!

This game is reasone enough to buy a Game Cube. It has a GREAT storyline and great gameplay. It's very addictive. I haven't beaten it yet and I'm already past 30 hours, so it's a nice long game. The graphics are super, too. Well, enough of my talk. GO OUT AND GET THIS GAME!! You owe it to yourself to buy it! ^__^

First off, this was a really intersting game. The storyline was cool and the graphics were beyond amazing. This is a game that makes Mario look like a master. The origanal Paper Mario was pathetic and annoyingly dull-witted. This one is ten times better than any other Mario and Luigi game Nintendo has ever unleashed.

Before I bought Paper Mario: TTYD, I never really liked RPG's. As soon as I started playing this game, however, I really got into it. At first, the plotline looks the same as the old games: Princess Peach is kidnapped, Mario has to save her, blah, blah, blah. But then you learn that it's not Bowser and his minions that have captured the princess, but a new group of characters known as the X-Nauts. This makes the game have a sufficiently better plotline because it puts Bowser in a middle-man position in which he must try to take the princess as his own hostage. Every chapter, you will get to play a hilarious event as Bowser in which you must complete a simple task (i.e. walk across a room, talk to a person, etc.) On even numbered chapters, though, you will get to play a parody of a Super Mario Bros. level (it's different each chapter) in which you play as the koopa king and must simply smash everything in the level.
The battle system is simple enough for beginners to have an easy time of it. Some helpful techniques are easy, like the Guard command, in which you press A right before an enemy attack hits you to lower the damage you take by 1. Some are slightly more advanced, like the Superguard, which is like a Guard command except that you press the B button right when an enemy hits you. If you perform it successfully, you will not take any damage AND you'll deal 1 point of damage to the enemy if they are attacking directly. You can make attacks more powerful by pressing A at a certain time during a move, and pressing A at other times can make Mario or his partner pull off a "Stylish" move that earns you more power for your special moves. It can be fun for any level of experience.
I noticed that no 2 chapters of the game are the same. In one chapter, you're fighting a wrestling tournament in a flying city while in another, you're trying to defeat a pirate ghost and escape an island. The diverse gameplay and many fun sub-plotlines add greatly to the value of the game.
The game is packed with humorous speech and events, but it also has some sad stuff. Sometimes you'll hear about someone losing a family member or mourning a friend. These parts of the game tend to be very emotional. They only make the game better, though.
I must say that the music in this game is absolutely stunning. The music writers created each song with every detail in mind: location, environment, mood, everything. All the music is perfect. I hope that if there is a Paper Mario 3 they will make the sound as good or better than PMTTYD.
While the plotline revolves around the same ideas as Super Mario RPG for SNES and Paper Mario for N64, Nintendo managed to expand the old ideas with new worlds and characters to make the game far better and more original than its predecessors. I recommend this game to anyone who enjoys Mario games, whether they like RPGs or not.

I'll keep it simple and short. Paper Mario is a lot of fun when it comes to being a video game. However, as a true RPG, it suffers a little because of the lack of a truly strong and engaging story line. Mario is once again looking for stars (a la Mario RPG for SNES) only this time, they're crystal ones, and yes, Peach has been stolen AGAIN.These repetitive storylines make the player not care about the story as much as they should, considering the game's RPG classification.
All story complaints aside, the game itself is a lot of fun. The battle system is similar to that of the one found in Mario RPG, and the fun, quirky visual styles allow for interesting gameplay when not in a battle. The saving grace of this game is that the developers did a good job of creating engaging areas to explore and puzzles to solve, while building in that uniques humor found only in a Mario franchise title.
If you like Mario and don't take yourself too seriously, Paper Mario - The Thousand Year Door is worth picking up, especially since it is a Player's Choice Title now.
Behind that cute and friendly exterior lies one of the most innovative games to ever grace the gamecube.

"Paper Mario:The Thousand-Year Door" is the sequel to the N64's "Paper Mario". It's a Mario RPG, so you'll be meeting and fighting characters from the Mario universe such as the Goombas, Koopa Troopas and Bob-ombs as you'd expect. What makes the game special is it's paper theme, you'll be transforming into a paper airplane, folding to go through tight corridors, and blowing away pieces of paper to reveal secret corridors and treasure boxes in this game.
This game is proof that you don't need fancy graphics and be able to see the characters sweat to make a superb looking game. The game takes on a paper theme, so the characters are all 2D and you can expect the game to look like a cartoon. The game exceeds in the graphics department, I say "exceeds" not in the "damn, that looks so real, I can see the sweat dripping from his forehead" kinda way, but in the "damn, that's very creative" way. The beauty in this game is how nicely detailed and drawn everything is. Many of the bosses are also pleasent to look at (like Hooktail and Cortez). I find it to be one of the better looking games around, it's all reminicent of "The Legend of Zelda:The Windwaker", in which the game doesn't try to look as real as possible, but as nice as possible. The art style in this game is very beautiful. This game definately has a ton of visual flair.
It's true that this game is an RPG, but it has many other elements thrown into it that make the game more engaging.
The games set like a theatercal production, moving in chapters. During each chapter, you'll usually be trying to retrieve one of the seven Crystal Stars (although not every chapter is about trying to retrieve a Crystal Star). How it works is that you have a map, and everytime you go to The Thousand-Year Door, the location of another Crystal Star is revealed. You'll have to make your way to the next location of the Star, sometimes having to go on some form of transportation but usually just having to take pipes and traversing the land onto the next town.
While on your adventures, you'll sometimes meet up with new teamates to add to your party. They'll join you for one reason or another, each with their own special abilities. These abilities will help you solve puzzles in certain areas. Their abilities can be used both in and out of battle. For example, Goombella, your first partner, can give you information on an area or people in the game, the information always comes in handy, so you'll be switching her out frequenty.
Mario also carries many abilities. Throughout the game, you'll be "cursed" with new abilities like being able to fold Mario and his teamate in half to go through tight corridors, or fold up into a paper airplane to be able to fly across areas where not even your partners can carry you across. You'll also level up your hammer and jump, allowing you to break certain items in your way and to jump and grab onto pipes or pull off a ground pound. When you gain new abilities and partners, you'll start noticing areas that were previously unreachable. So there is a bit of backtracking here, but it's subtle.
You'll usually find yourself trying to find hidden keys to open doors, traversing through areas with your or your partners abilities, finding hidden switches and areas, jumping from area to area and battling foes for Star Points which will level up whatever you choose to level up. You can choose to either level up your HP, FP (many of you and your partners moves cost FP, so more FP means more moves you're able to use more times) and, one of the most imortant parts of the game, Badge Points. In the game, you'll find a tremendous amount of badges, these badges can be equipped (with the proper amount of badge points) for new abilities in battle and to increase your HP/FP among other things. The badges represent the character builduing aspect in this game. Mario may not seem like much, but there is a massive amount of moves he can use with the badges, like hitting the ground with an earthquake (which flips over some enemies) and throwing fire at his enemies to burn them.
The battle system in this game is turn-based. When you see an enemy on-screen, you can sneak up to it and quickly pull out your hammer (yes, a hammer) and strike the foe first. Allowing you to attack it twice in the first turn (you can also jump on it first instead of hammering, but you have to time it well). Sometimes your enemy will attack first, so you have to be careful when approaching an enemy. In battle, you fight in front of a crowd on a stage. You can appeal to the crowd, which will allow you to use one of your specials (which you gain more of in the game) and sometimes the crowd might throw items at you. These items can range from mushrooms to restore some lost HP, to hammers to harm you to even money (to buy items).
In battle, you're only allowed to have one partner out at a time, each with their own unique abilities, and some of your partners attacks may not harm certain enemies, so you'll have to find which one of your partners causes damage to certain enemies. Likewise, some of Marios attacks may not harm enemies, so you'll be equipping various different badges and using many items to see what works on enemies. The combat isn't simply "push a button and watch Mario attack his foe" either. You must time button pushes for each unique move to pull off a technique. You can also guard against enemy attacks, but you have to time your button pushes well.
I find that this game has terrific scripting. This game has a lot of dialogue, so those who like very litte talk and a whole mess of action in their games will be put off a bit. But the dialogue isn't boring, it's quite entertaining. The game is filled with many jokes and many of the discussions are quite funny, I found mysef literally laughing out loud many times. They also did a good job in giving each character their very own unique personalities through the dialogue sequences. During cut scenes, whichever character you have out with you (you can only keep one out at a time) will speak about the situation or give you advice, I found myself restarting my gamecube many times just to hear what each character has to say. Goombellas sassy nature always gives me a laugh, as does...well, I don't wanna spoil anything, but a certain someones hotshot nature. Much of the dialogue in this game is just as entertaining as playing the game itself. Although the "computer doesn't know what love is, explain it to him" parts are very corny, but it won't kill you.
If you haven't realised this yet, "Paper Mario:The Thousand-Year Door" is a very deep story driven game with a lot of character and plot development. The game is a very lengthy game, clocking in about 40 hours, 50 with all the side quests and secret areas. The plot in the game may seem simple at first (which I won't be saying nothing about) but make no mistake, the plot thickens (a ton), which is strange coming from a Mario game. This isn't your traditional Mario game, where it's all about getting from start to finish. It keeps that distinct "Mario-feel" throughout it also, which is good. I can't possibly see how someone would not fall in love with this game if they gave it a chance. The very satisfying ending, the low price, it's a must-have for all Gamecube owners. I rank it somewhere up there with "The Windwaker".
It's true that this game doesn't have the most adult script around. Neither is it terribly difficult. But if you own a gamecube, you owe it to yourself to pick up this game.

P.m.t.t.y.d. is as professor Frankly says:Good,great,WONDERFULL even!!!The story goes like this:Princess Peach sends Mario a letter to look for a tresure with her at a town called Rogueport but when he gets there Peach is missing!Then he found himself helping a sweet little goomba named Goombella who brung him to Prof.Frankly(the princess sent a magic map too)who tells them about a 1,000 year old door and behind it is the tresure.BUT you need to collect 7 magical items called crystal stars with the help of the map and Goombella he sets of and finds out that the princess was kiddnapped by an army called the X-nauts who are looking for the crystal stars to!Mario finds the c.stars in Petalburg,The great tree,The glitz pit,Twilight town,Keelhall key,Polishy heights and the X-naut base.He opens the door to find Peach weakly laying in front of a fake tresure next to the X-naut leader Groddus who says:In this chest is the most powerfull witch in the millinium that will enslave the earth!Can Mario defeat the witch named the Shadow Qween? P.S.The real tresure is............................A surprize!

I have 30 games. Paper mario is my favorite. It is hard and challenging for older players yet fun and easy for younger players. Bowser isn't evil this time. Or good. The X-nauts have captured the princess. Bowser gets angry because that's HIS thing. Mario has to stop the X-nauts from taking over the world. Lots of side quests like star peices, trouble center, and pit of 100 trials in case you beat the game. It took me 2 years to beat this.

Graphics 10/10 (may not appeal to the older players)
