Once GREAT! Now HORRIBLE

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 17 / 21

I have played this game since it came out in July of 2003. I started off with one character and now have 4 characters one of which is a jedi knight. I have invested hours and hours into this game and now the company that made the game has decided to change it. My characters are no longer playable because this flawed system makes it impossible to kill even the easiest of creatures. I am very disapointed with the job of SOE and I feel if they have been able so make a good game worse over the years it will continue in its downfall. I recommend that no one buy this game untill SOE has fixed the flawed system currently enplace. In the past 3 days over 12 thousand members have canceled there subscriptions and SOE has ignored and deleted suggestions from its playerbase.

combate upgrade ruined star wars

I played this game for over two years but canceled my account yesterday due too horrible additions that 80% of the test server players rated bad on a poll. But since SOE does not listen to it's customers they not only added the update but pushed it out early. It's not an 'update' it is a completely new game nothing like the original. many of the classes have been changed for the worse. Doctors, combat medics, and crafters especially. a pure crafter character is no longer viable and crafting at all is no longer viable if you want to have a efficient fighter. In fact pure crafters can't even kill a lvl 1 monster, which makes the getting or resources impossible. Monsters are no longer solo-able. they added a new level system yet stuff 1 lvl lower than me would kill me in about 2 hits and the only stuff i could kill didn't give any xp at all. The way the game stands now, its the worse on line game out there, which is sad because b4 this update it was one of the best. This used to be a wonderful game but i recommend world of warcraft now. Sony has ruined the world of Star Wars

Lack of customer service is horrid

Like the title states, Sony has ruined this game and on top of all of that they have the WORST customer support that I have ever experienced. Be warned...

SOE shows NO respect for its Established Community

SWG has lost all connection with its current customer base, thanks to SOE's absolute disregard for customer assurance. The most recent Combat Upgrade has turned a buggy but enjoyable online immersive experience into an unplayable cartoonish joke. This occured while the player based consistently expressed their earnest disapproval.

SOE ruined a good thing

I have played Star Wars Galaxies for almost two years now (7/2003) and invested countless hours building a weapons business, becoming a jedi and in general trying out all the different aspects of the game.

In April, SOE decided that all the hard work, sweat and effort that their existing players had put in should be completely worthless. They did a complete redesign of the combat system but in doing so they changed every major aspect of the game. In my case I also had over 8 Million units of the best medical resources that had come along over the previous 2 years and those are not rendered worthless as well.

I can not with a good conscience recommend this game to anyone. SOE does not care about it's customers and did not listen to their existing fan base. Instead they changed the entire game to coincide with the Revenge of the Sith opening and rendered the hard work their LOYAL players had put in over 2 years worthless.

Sadly this was my first MMORPG that I had ever played and I was enjoying it immensely but now I feel as if the entire experience has been ruined. Shame on SOE. Save your money and buy a nice console game or another MMORPG style game. But I would not pay 2 more dollars to SOE because their only concern seems to be the almight dollar.

An awesome game gone bad

Pre-CU SWG was the best game out there. SOE had to ruin it with the new Combat Upgrade.

Borrowing ideas from others games and incorporating it into this game, was a terrible idea. Shame on SOE!

I used to have 3 accounts, with the new CU in place, all have been cancelled.

RIP SWG

Don't waste money on a 2nd rate knockoff of WoW.

LucasArts and Sony Online Entertainment recently changed this game radically with what they called a "combat upgrade". Despite the fact that the beta testers (like me, "alexi123") and many live-server testers said that they hated it (more than 80% negative feedback), SOE and LA shoved it down our throats.

All the negative responses were deleted from their forums, and all responses from the companies have been to the tune of, "give it a try".

We have tried it. We tested it as hard as we could. We told you it . You didn't listen. Now players are quitting in scores.

This game is no longer "Star Wars Galaxies", it's a combination of EverQuest 2 and World of Warcraft. Don't waste your time or money here, buy WoW instead. At least Blizzard games listens to the feedback of their customers.

Only Recommended for Star Wars Faithful or MMORPG Diehards

So what does Star Wars Galaxies (SWG) bring to the table that a gamer who spent time with Everquest, Asheron's Call, Ultima Online and other classic MMORPG titles has never seen before? Well, it does have some fairly organized non-combat gameplay mechanics including a built-in computerized buying and selling system that acts like EBAY for custom crafters. I also got a kick out of the ability to purchase harvesters which dig up incredible amounts of resources on all planets while your character levels up somewhere else. I enjoyed tinkering around with some of SWG's non-combat options but that was really the only thing I found to do in the game. At the time I played, there wasn't a single Jedi in the game but I hear that people are finally discovering (after almost a year of play!) how to become one. I also hear that in the future, the game might add space combat and land vehicles which were a critical omission from the original game which leads me to my number one complaint, how can you create an MMORPG about Star Wars and leave out space? That's like creating a Dungeons & Dragons MMORPG and leaving out magic. I'd like to spend more time telling you some of the pros and cons of this game but it bored me to death after two weeks of play. And this is coming from someone that spent months on previous MMORPG classics. It doesn't offer the MMORPG gamer anything they haven't seen before and it probably has one of the most boring hack and slash leveling systems of all the MMORPG titles. SWG still has a strong fan base and I'd recommend that Star Wars fans, diehard MMORPG fans (you know who you are), and MMORPG newbies give it the old college try but everyone else should save their money. This game might be fantastic after three or four expansions which you know are coming considering it has the same developer that worked on Everquest, but it doesn't bring anything new to the quickly diminishing MMORPG genre which is imploding from its own repetitiveness.

Pre-CU, I would've given it 5

I loved this game. When I first played it as a demo a year ago I immediately purchased it because of the fun community aspects and advanced and unique interactions within the game. I met many people in the game and developed many friends, worked tirelessly to advance my character, and had a whole lot of fun. For a guy who loves Star Wars and a guy who likes computer gaming, this game was fantastic. But all that changed on the dark day of April 28, 2005, when Sony Online Entertainment butchered this game in a weak attempt to lighten it up for casual players they hoped to draw in after Episode III.

I will not get into specifics, but suffice to say this so called "Combat Upgrade" tore the soul out of this game. A mass exodus of easily fifty-percent of the game's total playerbase commenced within the first few weeks of this patch- some of these players being veterans of the games who had been playing for nearly two years. Glitches were abound, balance fell apart, and it became so bitterly comical that my character, a pretty experienced avatar, fell dead to the killer sting of a butterfly in game. Combine this with the fact that some people's characters are irrefutably damaged, many of my personal in-game items including my home and weapons all disappeared, and the fact that this game is now nothing more than a 15 dollar a month exercise in futility and you'll soon realize that this is one game you don't want to own.

So be smart. Don't buy Star Wars Galaxies or its derivitives. It costs money to play, and there are more bugs and glitches in this game than in the first release of it back in August of 2003. It breaks my heart that I have lost so many friends and a great experience, but this game is truly forsaken. It is not the same game anymore, it is completely different. If you want Star Wars, take it from me: this is no longer it, and is not worthy of anyone's hard-earned cash.

Was fun until Combat Upgrade

This was a great online game until SOE changed the whole game. Now it is buggy and no longer dynamic or interesting. I would have recomended this just a month ago. Now i have to recomend against buying this product.
