This is the king of Star Wars games, at least in terms of gameplay and concept.
In most of the other games, you are the star. You play as Luke, or Han Solo, or Mace Windu, or some other important person. In this game, you are a nobody. Just one of a hundred stormtroopers or Rebel commandos running around trying to stay alive. You're just the guy who gets killed by Luke Skywalker on Bespin. It's so much easier to get absorbed in a game like this, because we can all identify with being a little cog in a big machine. If you live for five minutes in hard combat, you're amazing.
How many times have we watched Return of the Jedi and wondered how the hell a stupid Ewok could kill a stormtrooper with a stick? But play as a stormtrooper on Endor and you'll see how hard it is to watch your back in a three-dimensional battle. When you're killed, the game is nice enough to zoom in on the person (or Ewok) that killed you, so you can say, "Man, I should've seen that coming." Suddenly, Ewoks aren't so stupid.
The game play is excellent, and although the finer points take some getting used to (like going prone, or gunning on a Republic transport) it is easy to get started. Move and shoot and move again. Throw a grenade. Run away. It's simple.
Here are the points I would improve:
1. No arena mode. You can't get four friends together and tear each other up without playing with a group online.
2. The guns overheat too quickly. Many of the vehicles can only get off three or four shots before you need to switch to your secondary weapon to let the main gun recharge. Hit the wrong button in the heat of battle, and suddenly you're sitting in a different seat, no longer flying the ship.
3. The graphics on much of the scenery have room for improvement, but I will say that at least their simplicity keeps the load times down and the game play moving. It's a good balance, unlike Bounty Hunter where the graphics are amazing but the game isn't half as much fun to play.
Those are the only imperfections, and they're nothing compared to how cool the rest of it is.
Buy this game.
Needs some tweeking but not as bad as some say it is.

You get this with every new release that comes out. People that aren't satisfied with a game they have payed $ 40-50 dollars for and it disapoints them because they had high expectations, many toooo high.
So, now that the game is out and everyone can play it you hear the horror stories and the raving about this game. If you remember right, BF1942 was the same way. People complaining because the game did not produce what they wanted, but it was still rated the best Multiplayer game of 2002. I doubt this one will get the award for this year mainly due to all the competition out there right now but you never know do you?
OK, enough of the small talk here is what I think of SW BF.
The game is a lot diferent than I expected. I did have trouble installing it on my DVD drive so I tryed my CD Rwritable and it worked fine. I think it is a formatting issue as one mentioned in another review on the site.
I will rate this game up to BF1942 to get this settled for good!
When I started to play the game I wasen't impressed by the graphics but they are diferent. To me they seemed faded out but maybe it is my graphics card I have a 5200 GEFORCE FX 128 MB not the best but not the worst either. Single player had the best graphics especially on Hoth and Naboo or what ever it is called. I really haven't played all the planets or levels on single player but those few I have.
The AI is single player is a lot better than it was in sp BF1942. and they don't try to all come after you at once which is good.
The vehicles are relalistic. The AT-AT is slow like it should be but the fire power should be greater than it is. I know they had to make the game as fare as possible. I agree. I played in a few of the other vehicles and they are alright nothing great about them. They all are just as good as BF1942 or even better.
The maps are small but so were BF1942's and the same thing happened when you flew a plane out of the battlefield, it would threaten you with your life so no change there.
The sounds need some improvement really. Too weak. Need more of a push. Really, if the the sounds were great this game would of been 10X better. Maybe they'll release a patch for this in the near future.
Multiplayer is the same. You shoot and be shot. Nothing different than it was in BF1942. The controls of your character are a little different than in BF1942. For instance does anyone know how to get the dark trooper's jetpacks going? I tryed to figure it out but couldn't find it in the list of controls? Let me know.
Here's what I like about this game.
Good AI and single player even though it is no different than Multiplayer a server with bots instead of real players.......is not bad and 10X better than BF1942.
Graphics for the most part are good but different than what I am use to seeing. Really, single player had the best graphics which were good.
Interface needs some improvement but it is unique. I like how when you choose a mission to play weither in single player or multiplayer it shows the planet from space then goes to the surface then to the map like it is zooming in on the location. That's pretty cool in my book.Load times for missions or servers are a little slow but so were BF1942's. No change.
In all, this gameis no different than BF1942 was just a few minor things as I mentioned above.
What I don't like about this game:
Controls need some improvement in mainly how your guys accomplishes his tasks like shooting or equipment use. Vehicle controls are the same as BF1942 and that's OK with me.
Multiplayer needs tweaked a little but a patch is out (1.0) for improvements on the interface and a few other things.
Graphics in multiplayer need improvement for the most part. To faded out for me.
Sound needs a big improvement! Some of the laser guns sounds way to weak for my taste. Some are OK like the guns of the AT_AT are close to the movie sounds. The back ground music is good as I expected with a star wars theme to it.Expected.
Overall, not as bad as some are saying it is but like any game out there it needs some work. Really, it's not as bad as some of the games I've played for example Soldnier that was released in July of this year or what every it is called was the worst FPS I've ever played! Horrible. So it could be a lot worse. If you like something different than killing Nazis or Americans in WWII then this is the game for you. I am a big Star Wars fan and have been for years since the Return of the Jedi was released back in 83' when I was eight. I had to have this game of course as did so many others but don't buy it just looking for something that's going to knock your socks off like Call of Dutys' Multiplayer did for me and the newest release United Offensive! These make this game and BF1942 look like little toys so take this rating for what is worth to you. I do recommend this game to the general public but don't get your expectations to high or you will be let down and don't compare it to any other FPS other than BF1942 because that is what it is based off.
Overall 4/5
Recommended for casual online players or FPS fan, hard core fans will be disapointed most likely.
Other (better)options out there for hard core fans:
C of D: United Offensive (awesome game)
BF1942 (game play the same as Star Wars BF)
Far Cry and DOME 3: (The best graphics out there right now on the market and great gameplay-more for single player though)
amazing!

this game is purely amazing! i think lucasarts has a winner with this one. when i went to the store, there was a semi-long line of people waiting to buy this game. the graphics are purely amazing with my radeon video card. it has that movie feel to it! i like the assortment of vehicles in this game. the different armies are also great! i find one of the hardest maps to conquer is bespin and probably endor. the game has a neat challenge when you enable special characters to play on your team. you will have dooku or mace windu play for you (as well as luke and vader) on some maps. they are almost impossible to kill but they help alot. one thing i found awesome is the AT-AT in the game. it is very powerful and when you turn your bass up on your speaker system, u can hear it's footsteps come down hard!
i highly recommend this game if you can get your hands on it! it is a hot item right now!

Overall the game is a good first person shooter. While there are 4 different factions, for the most part, they are the same in terms of units. The vehicles are where it's at.
Imperials: I hate to burst your bubble, but the At-At sucks. Really, it's incredibly easy to tie them up, and they are slow, and reload extremely slowly, not to mention it's hard to step on people, and snipers can call down orbital strikes to kill the At-At easily. You're better off with the At-st, but that is much easier to kill. As for the speeder bikes, 3rd person is mandatory, or expect your ride to be real short, and real fiery. Aieral combat involving TIEs is alright, nothing really outstanding.
Rebels: The sniper apparently is the only one that can zoom twice, everyone else's sniper can only zoom once. Rebel vehicles are pretty junk overall.
Republic: AT-TE is awesome. Slow, but packs power, also you can have your buddies jump on and man the turrents. The Gunship is alright, it's got turrents as well. The tank thing is like a fast powerful jeep. Republic, like Imperials, have jump jet troops, the jet is pretty cool, allowing you to move very quickly across the map. Big problem though, when fighting destroyer droids (droidekas), your AI buddies charge him and unless they got emp gernades (or the jet pack guy's gun), they get murdered, I had 10 guys go down to one destroyer. Not the brightest clones. Aieral combat is just like Rebel vs. Imperial.
CIS (droids): The tank for them is pretty sweet. Fast and powerful. Pretty much the same as rebel, except you get destroyer droids, which kick lots of butt, if used properly. Problem with this is that unlike everyone else, you can't fly or pilot anything. All of the other units for all other factions can fly/pilot all of the vehicles. Also, Destroyer droids roll, which is kinda cool. Also, you get this roller car thing that is fast, and has decent weapons. The Spider tank from Episode 2 is here, but I think it sucks compared to the Republic's weapons.
Notes: Squads are powerful. the key to call guys for backup is key to this game.
Headshots are not always headshots. I plugged a rebel with 3 headshots from a sniper rifle before he went down. then I hit his buddy with one in the same place and he went down. There's not alot of consistancy with snipping.
Did I mention there are ewoks and Tusken raiders? You can kill them too.
Winning a game means either taking all of the control points or killing all of their troops and reinfocements. I have turned the tide of battle by killing 7 droids and putting the balance of numbers back in my favor. You can change the battle even if it's going badly, unlike some other games.
Only 10 maps, so you get tired of it quickly, online at the moment has poor connections for servers, most servers are 1R, or 3Y.
AI Issue: your fellow soldiers are dumb. Really dumb. they will STAND on a active 'nade till it goes off. They have thrown 'nades at their own feet and blow themselves up. They don't follow your squad orders most of the time. They rush Destroyer droids who have their shields up. They stand around idly while a sniper picks them off one by one. They crash their ships into you sending your fighter/bomber/transport in random directions, mostly into the ground though. The AI needs alot of work, and while it is better then most games, it is still pretty bad.
Overall the game is pretty good, but hardly worth paying full retail. See if you can find a coupon, or promotional credit, or just wait for it to drop in price.
Lots of fun for your money

I bought this at launch, paying $40+ for it. The UI has some flaws but the online experience more than made up for it. It is a simplistic FPS, but sooo much fun. To run around Tatooine or Bespin with an E-11, blasting anything that moves is well worth the current price. Very playable, this game will keep you happy for many hours. Enjoy.
Great game...fun to play

I love this game. True, it isn't the most advanced and complicated game as some shooters go, but it is still right up there (actually, I appreciated the simplicity). The part I enjoy is that you have to have to be aware of the flow of the battle in order to win. Even in individual player mode you are part of an army and you have to be aware of what is developing and take the proper action. For example, if your side is losing too many command posts maybe you can't just hunker down in some hidey-hole and snipe people or you will still lose, even if you kill 60+ enemy soldiers. You may just have to get out there and figure another way to help your side out. Sometimes, however, sniping is a good strategy, or maybe you need to jump in a Scout Walker and lend some heavy weapons support, or maybe you need to help defend a strategic hallway.... It all depends on the situation and your ability to adjust. This game is fun to play over and over as you try different strategies (kind of like HALO was).
Very well done!

Last Christmas, I got Star wars Battlefront. Sadly my computer was not good enough for the grapics card requirements WARNING: IF YOU BUY THIS GAME MAKE SURE YOUR COMPUTER WORKS WITH IT. It drove me insane. Finally a couple montha later, I finally got the graphics card. It is a very well done game. It has 20 standard star wars troops (including wookies, and destroyer droids, and clone troopers with jetpacks) from the (new and old movies) and has many playing maps.
Pros: It has wonderful graphics
Your troops never do the same thing twice
You can list commands to nearby troops
You can be a wookie :)
Cons: You can't pick up dropped weapons
The campaigns aren't much different from the instant combat
maps
Pretty good, but no BF1942 yet...

I got this game and was initially disappointed, if you are expecting BF1942/Vietnam then think again. However, my friends really got into the game and ran out and bought the PS2 version of the game and I am really starting to like it now. The action is fast, kinda like Unreal tournament, like I spawn and now I'm killing you instantly, opps died, respawned now and I'm back in the action. For PC shooter fans that like Tom Clancy games, you might recoil in disgust. However, the game is fun even though using the best strategies or team playing might not be on the top of the games strong points, it was really fun when Darth Vader himself joined my side and we fought foes while trying to keep up with him in the streets of Mos Eisly. You don't get to do that in BF! However, I would love to see an update that brings the game's menu/multiplayer/server settings up to par with other massive online shooter games. I have not tried it on GameSpy yet, but it may be better using their UI to find the servers you want to join. Hopefully someone will MOD this game in the future too!
This is an extremely fun game!!!!!!!

What a game, this game will keep you on your toes, it is an easy game also. Everyone should get this game, you get so hooked that you finish the game in a day, and it's even more fun when you can play on a LAN, with others. This game allows you to jetpack around, or roll on the ground, and you can become the public enemy, or anything you strive for. It is short but it's so fun you don't care, and you can just play over and over again.

I have changed my mind about this game. I guess you truly do have to get used to the controls. And even then you have to reach a higher level. Picking off people from a distance never gets old. Taking over turrets is fun. Probably the best is using the jet paks or riding on the speederbikes. Taking over ground vehicles is kind of cool and the new and veried heroes are cool. The new mini-game missions are the same thing over and over again just like the main game. Boba Fett taking out nasty little Gungans and Jawas seems like fun and it is kind of.
Bottom Line: If you are the biggest starwars fan of all time ...buy this game. It will not disappoint if you stick with it. Is it for kids? No blood, but lots of killing. Will I keep it? Yes.
