Highly Repetative

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 3 / 7

While the game is initially fun and it's enjoyable to play a first person shooter as both sides of the battle, I found the game to quickly become repetative and boring and wishing that I had spent my money somewhere else. After playing the initial single player modes, there isn't much else except to play the same battle over and over again in the same 8 or 10 different planet settings. You find yourself doing the same things over and over, but only as different characters (Imps vs. Rebels, or Clone-troopers vs. droid seperatists). Land based vehicles are easy to maneuver, but I was never able to pilot a fighter for more than a few seconds before crashing. After the initial novelty of playing both sides of the famous movie battles wears off (such as the battle for Hoth and Endor), there isn't much else left. Also, eventhough you have the ability to choose from four different soldier types, I found myself either using the stock trooper or sniper over and over again and the other soldiers weren't very effective. While not a bad game over-all, I don't think it's one of LucasArts' best. Just another first-person shooter with some extra bells and whistles.

Lastly, and I don't know if other people had the same problem I did, it took me three tries to get it installed and working on my computer. I just can't say if that's a Battlefront problem, or a Windows (tm) problem.

awsome

I did't think this game was going to be that great. But when I looked at it it was very fun and the graphics where awsome.

A Game with Potential

At it's current state, the game is full of bugs. Multiplayer browser doesn't seem to work very well, and there're some balancing issues that need to be resolved as well. As for single player, the AI, even though a lot more capable than that of the Battlefield 1942 series, is still pretty bad when compared to Ureal Tournament 2004. The single player compaigns are too short, and levels are only loosely connected to each other. But hey, who's buying this game only for its single player experience? It's multiplayer focused. Please keep that in mind.

Some people might be disappointed at this game right now, but remember, Battlefield 1942 was even worse when it'd first come out, and it took 4 or 5 patches to get it right. The developers are currently working on fixing the bugs and improving gameplay, so why not give them some time?

This is what could be one of the most fun games ever you can fight in combat in all 6 episodes and you can pilot more than 15 different craft in cluding the Atat which is cool cause no other game will let you pilon an Atat .

Great is an over statement

When i heard that finally they are making a good Starwars game i jumped right over to my local gameing store to pick out a cope. The game wasn't what i exspected, but it was good. The graphics are very good with stuning people desines, but the gun details need a little work. The guns are preety much all the same just with a diferent look to them which makes it kind of cheese
The bad part of this game is that there is no story plot. yah you can play in all of the starwars trilage battles, but it's just how many people you can kill before you or the computer runs out of people. On the other hand you can play as the rebels, empire and even people in the clone wars(cis and rebublic). You can jump into a star fighter or a tie fighter. In Hoth and in Renvar you can get into a at-at. In certain levels you can get into a at-st. The sound efects are preety good and I like that your able to comand people on your team.

Awesome first person shooter with free online subscription

Awesome game. That about sums it up. If your into first person shooters where you get to run around and shot other players online then this is the game for you. It has around 10 levels and requires no (yes NO) monthly payment to access online features. Only be aware that Battlefront II is due to be released in Novermber 2005 so I would actually advise to wait until that is released to purchase. However, this is still an awesome game. I would also advise to have a very high speed internet connection.

Really fun, but doesn't last very long

Battlefront is a very fun game, but is not the kind of game you will want to play over and over.

As I see it, there are basically 4 modes of combat, each of which is enjoyable in its own way:

1)Standard combat
Using semi-automatic blasters and grenades, try to pour as much firepower into enemies as possible before being annihilated. You might want to bring along a missile launcher to deal with any walkers or droidekas you may meet.
(My record: about 35 kills to 10 deaths)

2)Sniper combat
Using a sniper rifle, zoom in with your targeting scope on the heads of enemy soldiers and pick them off from afar.
(My record: 87 kills to 1 death)

3)Ground vehicle combat
Hop in a vehicle, get a friend to man the turret and run over or blow up all the enemies you can find.
(My record, 101 enemies killed , 1 friend killed, 1 death)

4)Air vehicle combat
Hop in a starfighter and shoot down enemy fighters or wipe out the enemy en masse with strafing runs.
(My record, 126 enemies killed, 3 friends killed, 0 deaths.)

As I said earlier, this game is very fun and engaging to play.

However, once you become proficient in all these modes of combat and can usually lead your side to victory, even on the "Hard" difficulty setting, there isn't much more to be done, or much more room for improvement. It took me about 2 to 3 weeks to "beat" this game. Once you've become very good at it, there isn't much fun in playing it again and again, unless you enjoy killing enemy soldiers for its own sake.

If you're looking for a game that will be really fun for about a month, it would be hard to find a better game that Battlefront. If you're looking for a game that will last you for years, Battlefront is not the way to go.

SW Battlefront: And I thought life was dull...

Ah, the best SW pleasure comes from neutralizing a droid or squashing clones in spider walkers. Fortunatly, that's what this game is about. The new weapons make you want to whistle, the environments are straight from the movie and the vehicles are just plain fun. The TNL warnings and loading processes are annoying, but the emmersing gameplay makes up for a few little glitches. Very addictive.

I've been disappointed before but this was amazing

I didn't want to like this game, I wanted to love it. Granted, having such high hopes even before I installed Star Wars Battlefront probably set me up for failure by believing that maybe, just maybe it could have lived up to the hype and all of the possibilities that hardcore gamers/Star Wars fans had been pondering for months now, but in all honesty this was an abysmal failure even if you had lower than average expectations. The visuals are less than sharp. The audio is mind-numbingly disimilar from what we have come to expect from a Star Wars game(why don't blasters sound like blasters?!). The in game browser fro multi-player is about 4-5 years behind the times, and the options for setting up a server are excrutiatingly few. The maps are pretty nifty but very small and uninspired(go ahead...admit it. They won't take your fan club membership away). It's just a bad game.

What's to love? Well, if you are a Star Wars fan this is a new game. That's about it. Again, I wanted to like this offering, but it's nothing that it should have been and a lot of things that should have just never come to fruition.

How?! How could they even think they could not use Star Wars Universe type blaster sounds and think they could get away with it? And even if they thought they COULD get one over on fans...then WHY would they just not use the sounds we have come to expect as opposed to just lifting the sounds we've loved for so many years?

Not good at all.

This is a warning to fans of other First Person Shooters (FPS)...this game does not live up to the hype. Myself being a big fan of the Quake/Unreal/Battlefield/Call of Duty (and their related mods) I found this game to be very annoying on a number of different levels. If you're new to FPS's, you probably like the game because you don't know how many better games there are out there on the market.

This game is identical to Battlefield 1942 except that instead of fighting WWII style, you're fighting al la Stormtrooper/Rebel Alliance style. For those who aren't familar with Battlefield 1942, dozens of FREE mods exist for this game, including a mod called "Galactic Conquest" which takes the WWII style game play and changes it to the Star Wars universe (sound familar).

I can't deny that the graphics are very beautiful in this game and way ahead of Battlefield 1942 (utilizing Direct X 9 capabilities) but at the same time the controls fee awkward...the gameplay feels a bit slow...and the option interface makes me want to smash my keyboard (changing your key bindings should not take a half hour because the interface is poor).

This past weekend a group of us (about 15) played this game at a Lanparty for a couple hours. We eventually got sick of it and went back to play what we consider more fun games (Call of Duty's Revolt Mod, Desert Combat, Unreal Tournament 2004) because this game just got old quick.

My advice. Save some money, go buy Battlefield 1942 (about $20) if you don't have it already. Go to fileplanet and dowload the galactic conquest mod for free.
