star trek legacy

legacy is a great, awsome space battle game. I love the fact it shows real time damage, space and has all five captians from all 5 shows.

Nice graphics but they could have done better

Nice graphics of all the ships, but you need alot of memory to play with- out it being choppy. For as long as it took to get this out, they could have done much better.

Frustration!

The controls are absolutely impossible on the PC version. Nearly everything is controlled by the mouse and even clicking on objects is a practice in patience and endurance. There is no in game support for mapping controls. You can't change the camera, pan, or zoom. Supposedly this isn't a problem for the xbox360 version of the game so if that's an option go for that.
It is disappointing because when I read Bethesda was behind this game I was excited. The studio behind Oblivion and the upcoming Fall Out 3 doing a Star Trek game! Sadly it didn't hold up.
The other problem with this game is an inability to change options or even save within a mission. The missions are not short. If you exit out you'll have to start from scratch. It seems there was little to no work done porting the game to the PC.
You can fly through planets and asteroids- there is no collision detection to speak of. Of course with the controls being nearly impossible if you could run into objects the ship would be wrecking constantly.
I could live through a lot of these problems for star trek, but the controls mean this game is going to gather dust. It truly is frustrating to have the mouse jump all over the place when trying to target on an object. Clicking on the screen loses your current target. Keeping a target in view is nearly impossible. Most battles you won't even see what you're firing at because you can't zoom out. Once you lock on you'll just keep firing your phasers at something off screen.
I'm sure the xbox360 version is better, the voice acting and graphics are good (though I wouldn't consider graphics as next gen).
Try a demo before getting this product. Even a die hard star trek fan, who muddles through some poorly designed games, this takes the cake on the PC. No matter how pretty it looks, being impossible to play (not challenging just impossible), makes it a game not worth playing.

the worst game I ever bought

this game is a lemon, I can't believe I wasted my hard earned money on such trash.

Good but could be much better

Pros
-Good voice acting
-Nice variety of missions
-Huge amount of ships to pilot

Cons
-Only 4 races: Federation, Klingon, Romulan, & Borg. No Dominion or Cardassian
-Not a lot of tactical depth

I liked this game for the most part. I would not have purchased it for its original price of $40, but if you're a Trekkie or anybody else just looking for a good way to kill some time, then I would say that $20 is a fair price. The game, despite its shortcomings, was enjoyable.

i liked it

hello,
I loved this game I had no problem with it, but I found it to be to short it could have been longer and would have been nicer to be able to use all of the ships during the story line the story line could have been much longer

I was a bit skeptical when I acquired this game, feeling that this genre of this series had been done one too many times. However, the game delivered nicely for another version. My only beef with the game was that its controls were difficult to master, causing the initial missions to go on longer than they needed to. Other than that, a most enjoyable installment in the Star Trek series.

Worst Buy I've Made In Two Years

I'm so upset that I bought this game, and I wish I could return it.

My computer easily exceeds the minimum requirements on the box - sometimes about 3 times better. It STILL runs with heavy lag, even on the lowest graphics settings - not that they even have enough options to let you reduce...

On top of that, even if you get past the lag...

The controls are horrible. I've never seen such poor planning in interface. It is loaded with bugs. I keep trying to play it, hoping I'll get my moneys worth; but you can't stand more than 15 minutes of it at a time. Its the most frustrating, poorly made game I've ever purchased.

Do not buy this game.

Star Trek Legacy is a fun game and good story line the one thing that does not give this game 5 Stars is the movement of the ships is diffcult.
If you are a Star Trek fan you will probly like it.

What happens when you combine Star Trek with poor Console Develpoers?

Add one measure of Star Trek with about 40 measures of extremely incompetant game development, and you get this amazing little wart of a game! And trust me folks, I am NOT kidding.
I have played just about every Star Trek game there is, and nearly NONE has been this bad. (And that says a LOT since there have been some pretty poor Star Trek games released to date! "Star Trek: New Worlds" anyone?).
The only thing this game has going for it is mighty pretty graphics, but don't worry, it all goes quickly downhill from there!
For starters, this game suffers quite badly from 'consolitis'. It's control scheme does NOT suit the PC at all. It barely suits consoles, either. This game at times tries to act as a 'fly from behind your ship' theme, but often also requires an almost 'Star Trek: Armada' style of control. It does NEITHER well.
I won't get into the addition of 'Enterprise' content, though I do not like that show, or consider it to be worthy of addition to even a good game. I know that show has it's fans, and overlook this.
This game also has more bugs than a herpetologist's fantasy collection! I've played some buggy games before, (the first release of Battlecruiser 3000 leaps to mind), but most had at least something to get me to keep trying to continue. Not this one though.
You want to play a GOOD Star Trek game? Look for Star Trek: Bridge Commander, (which thanks to available mods looks even better than this piece of space trash). Do not torture yourself by buying this one!
A final word I will give you on this: If you simply MUST play this regardless of it's almost universally poor reviews, get an X-box controller, or you will end up tearing out your own hair in total disgust. Star Trek already has enough baldness, don't do this to yourself!
