Good Try from a Trekkie

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 3 / 5

This game is a littlerough around the edges. If you want it to work at all, you first need to download both the patches that are out there. Once it's working though, its fairly easy to work. The game is purly ship to ship, with the occasional use of tractor beam and transporter to achieve other goals. It is simple and slightly redundant. Because it is limited solely to ship to ship battles the most that a player can do is escort, skirmish, and scout. But for those of you who like ship to ship battles, like me, and want to control the very movemnts of your ship in battle this is a good game. However, if you are looking for more advanced features such as politics, away missions, and other things that don't involve blowing up other ships, this game is not good for you. Also, it you're and overly obsessive compulsive trekkie, you may find a snag in the storyline. There are no real conflicts through most of the game except for one mission that involves the gaining of the command of the Stargazer by Picard. If you can turn a blind eye to that, the plot line is OK. Overall it is fun, slightly glitchy, and slightly redundant, but a good try to go where Star Trek has gone before.

OK-could have been better

O.K.I like this game.I don't think that it's quite as bad as most reviewers think it is.I think it's great that someone finally is making Star Trek PC and video games again.I really enjoyed Starfleet Command,Armada, and Armada 2.They were good games.Star Trek legacy had great potential-finally a game that combines elements of all five television series and the ten movies that currently make up the Star Trek universe. Not to mention voice overs from William Shatner,Patrick Stewart,Avery Brooks,Kate Mulgrew, and Scott Bakula.Wow! Sounds like a can't miss proposition.Well,it misses by a mile in delivering everything that it seems to promise. From clumsy ship manuvering to the voice overs from the captains that sound as though they were reading directly from their cue cards this game fails to deliver. It has a problem where the mouse locks up and you can't look around. You can't get it working again until you either reset the game,or finish the round(hitting shift+s seems to give you some ability to at least see where the enemy is).It requires a minimum of a 2.66GB processor to play it,so if you have anything below a 2.6GB processor you may as well not bother to try playing it-it will run extremely slowly and will be jerky. The controls could have been a lot better-I personally would have liked to be able to use a joystick with this game-it is after all a combat flight simulator,so why not?The keyboard controls can be difficult to get used to(especially if you're used to playing games with a joystick or game pad),but if you like PC games, then you can adapt to to the keyboard only controls. The ships look first rate.Planets, asteroids, and nebulas also look great. It's the scale of almost everything that's out of wack(ships vs planets vs asteroids, etc).Since when is the Enterprise-E half as big as a planet? And since when can a starship collide with a planet, asteroid,or opposing starship without being damaged?Hello Bethesda software engineers have you ever heard that when objects collide, especially large objects, they tend to do a lot of damage to each other?!!Sheesh!Another thing that comes to mind is that enemy fire follows your ship and hits you even when you go to warp speed!Remember in Star Trek 5 the Klingon bird of Prey fired upon the Enterprise-A.The Enterprise-A went to warp speed just before the Klingon weapon struck the Enterprise-A and went flying on by as though the Enterprise-A was never there! It's details like this that force me to rate this game at Three stars. My reccomendation is not to buy this game unless your computer and video card can meet the minimum requirements and if you're not good at computer games that only use the keyboaed as the interface. You'll be sadly dissapointed if you aren't up to it.

Follow the tutorial instructions!!

I've been playing this game for the past several hours now and can't understand why anyone is having so many problems (aside from multiplayer which was certainly a problem.) Granted, game manuals rarely carry any uselful information these days, that's why there's an in-game tutorial that explains how to control your ship and perform tasks from simple navigation to fleet combat. The complexity of key commands adds another level of difficulty to the game that isn't present in most modern titles that incorporate just pointing and clicking through a situation. I can't even fathom how a previous reviewer called this a step below Bridge Commander. Sadly, yes the game requires a decent computer in order to run smoothly, however, it won't require extreme upgrades: I'm currently operating an AMD64 rig at 1.8Ghz with 1gig of ram, and a 256MB video card that doesn't cost more than $75 today. It cost me just over $500 and I've had this system for just 2 and a half years and i haven't had to add anything to it.

Can't play yet. When I was buying the requirements to play were DX9c agp 8x video card w/ 128 vram. I have a 256 vram 8x card. The readme lists my card as not good enough so the game is too choppy to play. Have to wait till I get new video card. Very disappointed.

There Is Still Hope

The game may not be 100% perfect, but there is still hope for the future of this game. Bugged or not, you can still have a very good experience playing this game. Die hard trekkies this a must have, the graphics are truely spectacular compared to the last set of Trek games to come out.

The combat is realistic (the biggest ship DOESNT always win, learn how to play the game...). Yes, the controls are terrible (unless ofcourse you have the 360 controller; praise.) The subsystems are easy once you get a hang on it. Don't just play the game for 20 minutes and then give up because you can't get it work. Patients young grasshoper.

The bottom line is...Don't buy this....wait. Wait for the patch or two to come out. Bethsoft is risking hurting their PC reputation here, and I don't think they will stand for that considering they just broke into Trek gaming and plan to produce more later. I believe they will fix this game. And when they do, it will be the game we were all promised. Don't judge to quickly, yes the initial release was weak, BUT, I have enjoyed hours of gaming with with no end in sight, the patches will only make it better.

This is a great game if you are a true trekkie. It has all the eras and the gameplay is awesome! The plot is great just like the series. A true trekkie buy!

The controls for this game were a little rough and some of the game concepts were a little sketchy. Overall, this game was great for me. I am a Star Trek fan and I loved the idea of navigating around my favorite starships. The menus ran a little choppy on my PC (but it is a laptop). If you're a trek fan, this is the game for you.

Worst Buy I've Made In Two Years

I'm so upset that I bought this game, and I wish I could return it.

My computer easily exceeds the minimum requirements on the box - sometimes about 3 times better. It STILL runs with heavy lag, even on the lowest graphics settings - not that they even have enough options to let you reduce...

On top of that, even if you get past the lag...

The controls are horrible. I've never seen such poor planning in interface. It is loaded with bugs. I keep trying to play it, hoping I'll get my moneys worth; but you can't stand more than 15 minutes of it at a time. Its the most frustrating, poorly made game I've ever purchased.

Do not buy this game.

hello,
I loved this game I had no problem with it, but I found it to be to short it could have been longer and would have been nicer to be able to use all of the ships during the story line the story line could have been much longer

legacy is a great, awsome space battle game. I love the fact it shows real time damage, space and has all five captians from all 5 shows.
