I won't comment on the graphic style to start with like many people have done. After all, this game did get the most preorders of any game ever, so I don't think it's hard to face that the graphic style actually IS good. One thing you should notice, though, is that this game really does take a turn in the zelda series. First of all, it doesn't take place in Hyrule, although it is directly linked to Ocarina of Time.
The dungeons are smart, and more logical than the dungeons in Oot, for example, you can actually UNDERSTAND why you do what you do, which makes them easier to do but just as witty. The graphical style allows for the game to have some of the largest worlds and fanciest characters I've ever seen. The final boss battle is a great, intense fight, and quite a team effort. The backdrop of the final fight is like something you've never seen before, and it takes place in movie-style. I really liked the cinematic moments, and wish there were more, but that's nintendo's style, to not fill things up with too much of a good thing. However, the end really spells a turn in the zelda series and I am not so sure if I will enjoy them following that line. Because they already kind of made the events of Ocarina go to waste with this game, now they are destroying what all the main zeldas have built in story. Still, they made this game well and I'm sure they have a good idea of where to go next. Hopefully back to Hyrule.. if that's possible. You'll see ; )
Buy the game, and form your own opinion.

Before I ever saw a demo or even screenshots, all I heard about this game was complaint after complaint concerning the new style of graphics: the anime-like cell shading. Being a longtime Zelda fan-it was the first game I ever popped into my NES way back when-I know that graphics don't make the game. Anyone can look at the first Zelda and tell it's far from being artistically perfect, however, game-play is just that: perfect.
Seventeen years have since passed, and we've seen many more Zelda games: Link's Adventure (Zelda II), A Link to the Past, Link's Awakening, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Oracle of Seasons and Ages, and now the Wind Waker.
The Wind Waker, no matter what you think of it's graphics, delivers on all levels and scores another 10 out of 10 as far as I'm concerned. What makes this highest of rankings possible is the evolution of the series. Improvements have been made, setbacks were suffered, but through it all the Zelda franchise has endured mainly because of its almost ravenous fan base. We demand quality and Nintendo has delivered, even on the graphics. Especially on the graphics.
As I said before, Zelda has evolved-as has the entire gaming industry. Without evolution we'd still be playing 8-bit Mario games on the NES. Grand Theft Auto's adult content would be struck down before it was even brought up. Cinematic games such as The Getaway would be impossible. So why's it a big surprise-and sin in some people's eyes-for Zelda to move forward, to change it's design, to test something new?
Truth be told, after a few minutes of game-play I no longer noticed the cartoon stylings, and was blown away but the characters' expressions. So immersed was I that I started to actually fear and feel for Link, something I had never felt before despite my love for the previous games.
Forget what everyone else is saying. Ignore what I just wrote. Just buy the game, and form your own opinion.
Play before you judge.

You know... I find it strange that people give the game one stars when it's not even out yet. You've seen, what... a bunch of screenshots? Please. How about waiting until you can play it before you judge it? I've been sampling it in the demo kiosks and this game is pure, unadulterated art. So what if it's not ultra-gritty, hyper-realistic style? Those of us who played during the 8-bit game generation never had that and those games were wonderful. The Wind Waker is based in a cartoonish fantasy world... and the Zelda series hasn't been this close to its roots in a long, long time.
Those of you who might be sitting on the fence, those who are unsure... don't listen to those who gave the game one star. This game is a feast for the senses, plus wonderful gameplay. Hey, with Famitsu giving it a 40/40... how can you go wrong?!

With the latest title in the legendary Zelda series, designer Shigeru Miyamoto once again why he is considered by many to be the premier game designer in the world.
"Wind Waker" is an awesome game, hands down. It captures the majestic feel of high adventure that many feel has been missing from the series since its offering on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, back in the early 1990s. The game world is vast, as as players traverse the enormous ocean, the thrill of discovering new lands to explore is truly palpable.
Many were skittish of the game's new graphical style, but their fears should be allayed upon seeing "Wind Waker" in action. The game looks gorgeous, like a storybook come to life. Every character, item and monster is rich and vibrant with color, laden with facial expressions that convey actual emotion, from frustration to surprise, happiness to panic.
What really sets the game apart, even from other titles in the series, is the emphasis on story and continuity. Each member of the supporting cast has their own agenda and personality, a far cry from games in the original series. And this makes the dramatic events in the story truly shine.
Gamecube owners who pass this game up are missing out on one of the best titles that will ever see shelf space on this system. It will certainly be remembered not just as classic Zelda, but as a classic experience in gaming that others will be judged by.

I love the zelda-series and have played all of them(my favorite being "Ocarina Of Time".), which include the Nintendo, Super NES, Game-Boy/Game-Boy color, & N64 games! All of them are quite good(although "Majora's Mask" will kind of be a disapointment to those who played OOT first.) Skip ahead to the upcoming WINDWAKER, yet another adventure for the young hero, Link who must save his sister who's been kidnapped by a giant bird. Now he'll have to follow the path of the wind and solve it's puzzles, or meet thy doom!
According to NINTENDO, the gameplay will be much different from all the previous titles.(this also includes the character design as a treat to all you anime' fans out there!)However, there are still plenty of enemies to hack n slash with your good ol' trusty blade and of course, the puzzles! And let's not forget the sountrack! No Zelda is complete without some good music, right? (OOT had the best!) To make things even better, you get a FREE Bonus disk whenever you pre-order the game. The disk includes the remake to the 1998 classic N64 title, "Ocarina Of Time" and the unreleased, "Master Quest" for the more advanced players who already beat the original version. Is that a nice addition or what? If you are a hardcore gamer of action-RPGs or never even played the zelda games, then I highly reccomend! BUY TODAY!!! I hope this helped.^_^

Face it, The Legend of Zelda is the best. I feel gravely sorry for those who let the cel shaded graphics turn them away from this awesome game. I HAVE played this just recently and the graphics only enrich the gameplay. Those of you who complain of the graphics have no idea whats going on! The eyes and the reaction of Link is comical, cute, and very rewarding. The sophistication of the game is everything and it only gets better. Explosions never looked so cheesy, but the cheesiness is what brings out the game of course. Don't shy away because of the graphics. Move Link one step with the control stick, and you'll be hooked. Just please give it a shot. You won't be dissapointed. I only wish there were 6 stars on thie Amazon rating system!

Up until now i have just played Legend of Zelda game as if they were like every other game, but after seeing Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker I beleieve that i have become a Zelda finatic! I must admit that i have never actually played the game, but i have seen so many screen shots, watched videoclips, and read thousands of reviews on this game and I think that now I can really say this will be the best game ever created in the history of mankind. So many people cracked on this games cel shading when the news of it first hit the streets and one of them was me. But, now that i really see what the game is about i am hooked on getting it no matter what it takes I also think that the cel shading is really cool. The cel shading allows the characters to have facial expressions such as fear and joy, for example an enemy might get scared if link pulls out a bomb. The peole in the game also have AI (artificial intelligence) which allows them to think for themselves instead of walking around like a bunch of brainless idiots. For those of you who still don't know the story line of the game yet basically Link and his younger sister are on a small island relaxing when bird drops a mysterious girl onto the island and snatches up Link's sister. Link must begin his adventure by leaving everyone he knows on the island and go with some pirates to rescue his sister. Link must go to the island where his sister is held captive and sneak around trying to rescue her. I've also heard that there are areas in game that are in Ocarina of Time, i should mention that this game takes place 100 years after Ocarina of Time and that in every Legend of Zelda you play as a different Link that is why more than one game has a young Link. I found some screen shots of a statue of the Link from Ocarina of Time honoring him and i also found screen shots of Zelda and Gannondorf who are supposed to be important characters in the game. Well thats all i can offer you and i hope this information was helpful.
Oh, hold on preorder the game so you can get a free disk containing a full version of Ocarina of Time and Ocarina of Time : Master Quest which is supposed to be a much harder version of the game that was never released in the United States. The disk also has previews of other games such as Wario World, Mario Sunshine, and Metroid Prime.
Another Masterpiece

I just had to say that this game is absolutely fantastic. Some of my best memories as a child were sitting around the TV playing the old Zelda games, thinking that these were the best games I had ever played. Each new game surpassed the last, and The Wind Waker is no exception.
I've heard a lot of people complain about the graphics. When I first saw the screenshots, I also was also disapointed, thinking that they were awful bright and geared towards kids. But Shigeru Miyamoto, the genius at Nintendo who has been behind the Zelda series, simply said 'Wait until you play the game to form your opinion'. He was right! The graphics work perfectly with the game, which is an outstanding piece of work.
I'm not going to say anything about the story except that it was stunning. All the different elements come together on the Gamecube, a console more powerful than any before, to create an amazing game.
If you liked previous Zelda games, this will not disapoint you. Don't let the graphics stop you from playing this great game. The innovative use of the new system is enough to keep you entertained for days. So, buy this game NOW!
P.S. Get the bonus disc with Ocarina & Master Quest- I promise you will not be disapointed, it has everything from the original N64 game and more!
Nothing short of a masterpiece

To quote IGN: "This game not only revolutionizes the Zelda series, but the Action/Adventre genre as a whole."
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is the latest game in one of the most popular series in gaming history. This game takes and builds on the story of Ocarina of Time, occuring over 100 years after the "Hero of Time," our previous Link, saved the land of Hyrule from the evil Gannondorf. Now the land of Hyrule has once again been plunged into darkness, and it's people are waiting for the Hero of Time, a man dressed in green to return. When he does not, the people fear all is lost. It's about this time when our new hero turns 12 and puts on his own green outfit, a gift from his grandmother.
Gameplay:
If you've played Ocarina of Time, the controls should feel fairly familiar to you. This is because the game runs on what is essentially an upgraded Ocarina battle engine. The main difference is the C stick now controls the camera fully, and the camera, when working on its own, is much smarter. This elminates one of the main complaints from Ocarina, the bad camera angles. Link once again has a whole array of items to find and use on his quest, many that are familliar and some that are new. This mix keeps the game fresh.
Graphics:
Ever since the debut of the new graphical style of The Wind Waker, nicknamed "Cel-da," many people, myself included, have been sceptical. However, Nintendo did an excellent job, producing what is probably the first effective use of cell shaded graphics in the video game industry. In game, people's faces have a much more noticable emotion, which ads depth to the game as a whole. Moreover, the cell textures are much more rich than was anticipated, making the game almost a work of art.
Sound:
Sound is where most of the critics have voiced their complaints, as some of the music has a midi feel. However, with the use of many old sounds from Ocarina and A Link to the Past, I think the slightly midi sound makes all of the parts work together. It also brings back that classic Zelda feel that so many of us have come to love over the years.
Overall:
With as many side quests as there are, this is a massive game. Although it can be completed at a bare minimum in 20 hours or so, completing the game on the whole could easily take 40-50 hours, even with a guide. This highly anticipated game has exceeded expectations, and is the first must have title of 2003 for any system.
GRAPHICS DONT MAKE THE GAME

This game is the best game i have i played out of all the other new generation games i have played. The graphics are good anyway. It shows so much facial expresion it is unbelievable. Ya i imported the game, and my friend translated everything for me. This game is a direct sequal of ocarina of time (Not like the horrible game Majora's Mask). People today are extremly closedminded. Be a little more accepting. The graphics are really cool. The graphics is what sets it apart from many other games. This game should be owned by every Gamecube owner (Only reason i got gamecube was for this game zelda and super smash brothers). The gameplay mechanics are the best i have seen today. This game is compleat action and its not just keep hiting the b button till you kill the guy. You can use other enemies weapons, you can nock the oponints swords out of his hand, and you gota use you're head (if their anything in their) to know where to hit the guy. Great music, great world, great effects, and just a great game. If If you liked ocarina of time (If you dont you have no brain what so ever) you'll definitly love Zelda: The Wind Waker. One last thing, if you have gamecube and dont get this game you just waisted a great system! Be smart, and by this game, and trust me it's worth every penny!!
