Those of you who are serious Sim-ians know: there are times when your adults sneak off to work and leave the baby unattended, or take a bath, or whatever. Next thing you know, here comes the lady from social services to take your baby off to a more-deserving couple. After Superstar, this will no longer be a problem as you can have your butler take care of the lil darlings. This is probably one of the best developments I can think of. Repossessed children are a thing of the past! Hallelujah! Now if kids would just grow up into adults, and adults into senior citizens, and if old age actually brought illness and death after a while...Oh well.

This is some info from the Official Sims website:
REDWOOD CITY, Calif., February 13, 2003 - Electronic Arts (Nasdaq: ERTS) today announced plans to release this May The Sims Superstar, a new expansion pack to the top-selling PC game of all time, The Sims. Players can now realize their fantasies of fame and fortune as they pursue the dream of being a Rock Star, Movie Star or a Supermodel and live the lifestyle of a celebrity. All new gameplay, new social interactions and a whole new in-game destination offer players an all access pass to the world of superstardom. In The Sims Superstar, The Sims are ready for their close up.
"The Sims have lived extreme lives, thrown outrageous parties, gone on hot dates, traveled to vacation destinations and owned pets. Now it's time for them to follow their dreams of making it big," said Jonathan Knight, Producer at EA's Maxis studio. "The Sims Superstar will let players experience the outrageous world of celebrity, Sims style."
For the first time ever, players can follow their Sims to work and witness their pursuit of fame and fortune firsthand. Fledgling Sims start by signing with an agent and shuttling to Studio Town, a new and fully customizable destination that offers television and movie lots, spa locations, recording studios and fabulous fashion facilities. Once there, Sims can schmooze, network and name drop their way to stardom in the movies, music or fashion. Will your Sim be a flash in the pan or a living legend? Players can now track the sizzle of their Sims with an all new fame score.
A new cast of comical characters are available to assist The Sims in their quest for celebrity. A fabulous fashion designer, a mega-hit record producer and a maniacal movie director are available for career critique. A capable butler, a savvy sushi chef, and a soothing masseuse will be on-call to administer to the every whim of a celebrity Sim. Life in the spotlight would not be complete without the glare of the paparazzi, the adoration of groupies, and the annoyance of an obsessed fan or two. This is all part of life in the spotlight in The Sims Superstar.
Sims can become a celeb or just live like one. Fabulous new objects like a skydiving simulator, satellite dish, and a new art and furniture collection can turn an ordinary Sims abode into a magnificent and decadent manse. Sims in need of a day of indulgence and pampering can also enjoy the new day spa, complete with mud treatments, steam baths, Sim massages and an oxygen bar. Domestic staff is also available for hire so manicured Sims won't chap their hands with the drudgeries of household maintenance.
Will your Sim become an icon or fade into the obscurity of bad dinner theater? Will they win a coveted Simmy award or be regulated to personal hygiene commercials? In The Sims Superstar, you are the idol maker.

This has to be the best expansion pack yet for The Sims. This time your sims can try to become superstars. There is a whole new area to visit (Studiotown) where your Sim can mingle with such legends as Marilyn Monroe and Andy Warhol or try and make friends with the local stars....not always an easy task.
Budding stars have to develop their skills in singing, acting and modelling as well as keeping their fans happy by chatting to them regularly and signing autographs. Woe betide the Sim who neglects his fans as he will quickly be stalked by the 'obsessed fan' who will not only prove a nuisance in Studiotown but will also plague him at home by leaving dead flowers around and rummaging in bins etc.
There are plenty of new walls and floors etc as well as lots of new items to keep your Sim happy...try the new oxygen bar or have a relaxing massage. Outdo the Jones's by being the first in your neighbourhood to employ a butler.
if you are only going to buy one expansion pack for The Sims then this should be the one.
Sims is addictive again!

After installing Superstar, I haven't been this addicted to the game for a long time. It's a wonderful expansion pack; truly a revolutionary one since Hot Date(in the sense it made dramatically drastic changes to the game). Livin' Large introduced fantasy elements into the game. House Party wasn't much of a drastic change. Hot Date was a big change, making the Sims' relationship building more complicated (by adding 2 levels of relationships as well as various interests) as well as enabling the player to play with Sims outside their homes. Vacation wasn't as drastic because only expanded on the leaving-the-house interface. Unleashed enabled pets, expanded the neighborhood - nevertheless, it wasn't as big a change as Superstar is. For the first time you can actually take your Sim to work (as a model, actor or rock star). There's plenty of cool new challenges here - accumulating and maintaining star power to remain at the top of the fame game; the puzzles of attempting to figure out capricious instructions from directors, producers and fashion photographers; dealing with stalking by an obsessed fan. By adding this type of goal-based element to The Sims has refreshed the franchise without compromising its open-ended gameplay and thus re-invigorating a 3-year old game (which needless to say, is quite elderly in computer years). There's a few minor bugs which I won't go into here, but at least on my end they seem to be fewer of them than in Unleashed. If you've felt that the franchise has started running out of steam, Sims Superstar should change your mind.
Superstar gets super stars!

What's inside the game:
You of course get a new place to visit: Studio Town, a new career to chose from: become a singer, actor, or model (I refer to it as a career since you get paid for it), new objects like a skydiving simulator, a skuba diving tank, or a satellite dish, hire a butler to handle EVERYTHING in your household, and you have new celebrity social interactions.
What you can do in Studio Town:
There are many things to do in Studio town, but the most fun things you can do are interacting with famous stars, the paparazzo (aka paparazzi) and devoted (and sometimes, obsessed!) fans of yours. You can preform on stage (singing/acting), and as your fame increases, you can pose for professional pictures, model on the runway, make albums, star in a soap opera, or even star in a movie.
Playing the game:
Your fame is rated from zero to five stars. You must preform often to increase your fame, but also to keep it from falling (just like relationships). Skills in the body, charisma, and creativity area are a must if your sim doesn't want to get boo'd off the stage, so I suggest working on these BEFORE trying to become famous. Your success also depends on who you know famous wise; if you're talking to a has-been, stop befriending them and start rubbing elbows with the top ten list! The top ten list fluctuates daily, but mainly, most of the people on the list stay there only in different positions (*Note: You can find out who's hot and who's not by reading the new news paper that will be delivered to you daily along with your regular paper). Increasing your fame through stars isn't as hard as it sounds; a 3 star top ten friend will count as 3 stars, not one!
Overall:
As other reviewers have said, it is a bit hard to become a superstar but not impossible, and it's fun becoming one too! Even if you don't make it to becoming a superstar, it's still fun being at other levels of fame; people treat you differently, and you get obsessed fans! Now who could pass that up? The game is fun to play no matter what level of fame your at. I give it 5 well deserved stars!
This Should Be Great

i really hope this expansion pack is gonna be good. from my understanding it will be released may 19th. a cool thing about this is in unleashed you already got career tracks to make you famous but not from a world prospective. this new expansion pack gives you the chance to be a hit record producer, a television acotr, a movie actor, or even a model i think. ...also there is going to be a fully costumizable world for your sims in the sims superstar like hot date and vacation, superstar allows you to take your sims to another land where there are lots for movie houses, sets, television screening(something like that) and spas cool styff like that. also you can finally have a heat sweater machine! should be very cool. you can have a mud bath and from the screenshot it looks like they even put pickles on thier eyes! lol i really hope this helps anyone who is just learning about this new upcomming expansion pack. i knew unleashed wouldn't be the last one as people really thought!
