What's with the "Woo hoo" thing?

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 6 / 12
Date: April 27, 2007
Author: Amazon User

Hey, just wanted to tell everybody that the woo hoo is all hidden under the covers, I mean it doesn't show anything... My 9 year old sister watched me do woo hoo on the sims. She doesn't care. Neither do I. Nobody cares because it's just all hidden and everything. As for the game, it's fun because you can make your own characters and make them have their own adventures if you like.

Plus to a reviewer down there, I'm 11 years old so this game is ok for everybody. Parents, please don't listen to those guys because the sims 2 is really ok.

Lacks new content and system requirements are a joke

The minimum requirements are a complete joke. If you are at the lower end of the system requirements (or even towards mid range when it comes to the graphics card) you will be very disappointed. To make it run at all without crashing every five minutes, you will have to have all graphic enhancements turned off and run at 800x600 res, not to mention closing every single background program down. You then end up with ugly blocks of graphics, extremely pixilated and everything looks dull and dreary. Even if your computer is less than one year old, don't be complacent - you still might not have a good enough graphics card to get the full effect. I would suggest you need at least a Geforce FX5700 or a Radeon 9700 to get satisfactory graphics, ie anywhere close to all the preview pics you've seen on the web. If you *have* got a great computer then you will definitely be impressed by the new graphics they've come up with, but what about the actual gameplay once the novelty of the graphics has worn off?...

You would expect that Sims2 would incorporate all the expansion packs of Sims1, together with all the objects but it doesn't! It's basically the original Sims with Livin Large, House Party and an attempt at Hot Date. No pets, no superstars no vacations. I guess expansions will address this, but just imagine the load on your computer with such graphically intense stuff! Even if you can run Sims2 on its own would you be able to run it after a few expansion packs.

The aspirations everyone is talking about is basically another mood indicator - if they don't fullfil what they desire then their mood goes down, so you now have two sets of mood bars to juggle. The aging process sounds fun but in reality it happens way too fast and only the family you are playing age, so you end up with mismatched friendships, ie your sims are old and grey but go over to another family and they are still teenagers!

To conclude:
This game is all about the graphics, that's its appeal and they are impressive *if* you have the right computer. For actual game content you get more with the original Sims and a couple of expansion packs.

What was Maxis thinking?

It was a stupid decision for Maxis to make a game this complex right off the bat. The best part of Sims 1 was that even if you didn't have the best computer, the game would still run great. That is not the case with Sims 2, becuse you HAVE to have a new computer to enjoy this game. Unfortionately, Many people who play the sims don't really have the BEST computers in the world.
Hopefully Maxis will fix this with a patch of some sort.
If you don't have a brand new computer, expect long load times, and very choppy graphics (depending on the size of the house). The best way to remedy the loading situation is to build a small house (and how fun is that?).

Will Wright is a genius! Thank him for making this game!

If you have looked at all of the other reviews here, you'll see that everyone has 5 stars for this game. I disagree. If I could, I would give it six. Its that good. The first Sims made is a masterpiece all its own, but this game goes beyond that. For example, in the first sims, if you were bored and hungry, you'd have to eat and do something fun seperately. Now, you can lie on your bed eating potato chips while watching TV! And thats not all, folks. The attitude you take is now a much bigger deal. For example, depending on how outgoing your sim is, they will act different in everyday life and conversation. An outgoing sim will start conversations a lot and make many body gestures, while a shy sim will rub their arm and try to slink away. Isn't that the coolest, or what?! Also, there are many more objects to choose from, over 500! That is more than 3 times the amount of objects they had in the normal sims. Your faces have emotions. This is the most perfect game! I haven't even played it, but I know I will fall in love with it. If you don't buy this, frankly, you're an idiot. A sad deprived one. Buy it!

Sims2 Fun

I got the Sims2 for a Christmas present(2004) from my Husband and I enjoy playing the game,I work alot, so when I come home I play the Sims2 just for fun. just to remind you, you have to make sure you have the system rquirements exact or the game will lag and crash to the desk top, and plus have enough for your expansion packs (University and the new not yet released Sims2: Night Life). I'll let you know how the University is, and when Sims2: Night Life comes out in September, I'll tell you about it, too.

If you are looking for downloads, the best paysite is: The Sims Resource, they come out with new meshes. You only pay $8 something for 2 months, it's worth every penny. they are based in Europe, Switzerland I think. and every one around the globe is there with their creations, it is sooooo cool.

I can tell you Sims2 rocks!! Happy Simming!

I am a huge fan of the Sims I and when the the Sims II came out I had to have it. I bought the game from best buy and i was disappointed to find that it dosent work on my computer! It took me eight hours to load! my computer is new too, it is a december 2003 dell! i have played the game though and it is awesome, however you need to have the newest computer on ther market to be able to play it on your computer, when I asked best buy why this happpened they said you need to buy some $300 digital thing in order to play. So my advice to you is to not waste the money, stick with Sims I until Sims II comes out for your Playstation 2, xbox, gamecube, etc.

really disappointed

The girlfriend loves the SIMS, so I bought the sequel early as a present. It is very slow loading, slowest game I've ever seen, and my comp is not that old or slow (3.2Ghz) Gameplay is clumsy, navigation is clumsier... It's like a bad first person shooter from the mid-90's... maybe it will grow on me over time, but first impression is very poor.

Nothing like the SIMS, big step backward.

Long review, but at least read the second part

I was reading the lowest reviews, you know, because of how entertaining it usually is, but all i found was that people were complaining because it didn't work on their computer because they didn't have the right requirments, they bought the DVD version and it doesn't work on their computer, or the shipping was too slow.
First of all, if it doesn't work on your computer you should have read the system requirments because if you dont have them, it probably wont work.
Second, it's a DVD of course you need a DVD player to use it(if you thought it came with an extra DVD you should have read closer).
SHIPPING HAH! stop complaining about shipping. do you know how many people pre ordered this game? i ordered it when the release date was set for march, i ordered it in january or something like that. i got my game the day after it was released so i'm not complaining. it will get there, chillll outtt.

Now onto the real review..
i was an addict the The Sims for... EVER. hah. i still love the Sims. i got The Sims 2 and could not wait to get it home to install and play it. i actually didn't think it would work on my computer because i didn't think i had all the requirements. BUT i got it home and it installed fairly quickly and without a problem (this might have been because i uninstalled all of the other games on my computer before). i started to play it and it was quick, unlike everyone else saying it was incredibly slow... it seems to load quicker than the other sims game.
I started playing. it takes forever to create the people you want because it goes into so much detail, but that was OK because it's pretty neat that you can customize your sims. after i created my family i chose where they should live and started playing the actual game. WELL, i would have to say that this is the most boring game i've ever played. i do not understand why, but it is. so i played it for about an hour or 2 and went to bed. the next morning i woke up and was very dissapointed. i thought maybe it sucked because i was so tired and it was 2 in the morning when i played it. SO i loaded it up again and started to play, but it was just as boring so i quit.
i wanted someone else's opinion, so i let someone i work with borrow it. a week later she returned it saying it was boring as heck and the most exciting part of the game was creating the sims. haha. i just couldn't believe that i payed $50 for this game. it's the most money i've ever wasted.

Huge disappointment

I got this game shortly after it was released. A lot of reviews are stating that you should not get this game unless your computer is newer. Well, my computers (2) were less than a year old and met all the specifications listed on the Sims 2 box. On my laptop the game flickered on my husbands desktop it would freeze randomly.

I have been on the Sims 2 website looking for help with this game, but the Technical help is minimal and they offer ridiculous solutions, which I have tried and continue to have difficulty with the game.

It has been a huge disappointment for me to spend $50 on a game that I looked forward to for a very long time. I have since given the game away along with the original Sims (including all expansions). I don't think I will be returning to the Sims any time soon.

More of the same, but better.

I haven't spent a great deal of time playing this game yet, but from what I have seen I think it is going to be a lot of fun. It is a lot like the original, but the graphics and animation is much better. The interface is similar but different, so mixing that with the challenge type changes means we get to learn to play all over again (which I think is part of the fun). The in-game tutorial is useful.

If you are worried about the time required to load the game then you might consider getting a faster processor and more memory. If you are concerned about how well the graphics will work then you might need a new video card.

As for the people who think Maxis should have made the game to be compatible with older systems I will say that there is a version that is compatible with older systems. It is known as The Sims version 1. If software companies did as this people would like we would not have color graphics or sound in any of our games. As hardware capability advances software advances to use the new capability. This is not a bad thing, but rather a good thing because it allows us to have nicer looking graphics, better sound and in this case better artificle intelligence.
