So much to do, so little fun

First of all, let me say that this is an amazing game in ways. It runs on a real-time clock, and the conditions change from morning to day to night. This is really nice and adds a real boost to its already high originality. This is baisically the Sims, Nintendo style. All the townsfolk are animals, and the player is a strange looking boy or girl.
Now the GC is known for the "kiddy" games, and this dosen't help it. But, I dont really care about that, so I'll skip that part.
However, the graphics are seriously sub-par for the gamecube. Somethings look nice and smooth, while the animals, and players and just about everything else are box-like and not smooth at all. However, graphics don't make or break a game.
The sound is also sub-par, but I guess it goes good with the "happy-go-lucky" aspect of the game. It is usually a cheezy piano song, or the "town song" which you can change to whatever you want. I feel the the SFX are overly used, but that's just me.
Now for the biggie, the FUN FACTOR. You've probably all heard that there are a TON of things to do, and you can't really beat the game, just keep playing. Lots of things to do sounds good, right? Not in this game. You get to town and are 18,000 "bells" in debt for your house the size of a small cubicle. I paid this off in about 1-2 hrs. Then you can make your house bigger, and get another 148,000 bells in debt. Collect shells and fruit, and you'll pay it off in no time. Then a few new options open up. You can buy a bug net and a fishing pole and a shovel. You can fish, collect bugs, and dig up fossils, and sometimes bags of money. You can either sell your captured insects and fish to the store, or donate then to the town hall. Sounds fun? Not really. Fun for an hour or two, and then catching bugs and fishing can get boring, fast. I rented this for free as a promotion from Blockbuster(thank God) instead of buying it. I'm glad. After you finally get debt-free you can collect things, find fossils, and fish and hunt bugs, and THAT'S ABOUT IT. I have only had it 4 days, and am bored stiff with it.
Rent this game, maybe twice, but don't buy it unless you have unlocked all the activites and have fun with them all.
Bottom line(literally): Close, but no cigar.

Alright, here we go

I rented this game for about 2 weeks before x-mas. I really love the sims, and strategy games like it. This game was a lot of fun, being able to do all these everyday activities on the screen... But then I realized, this game is a waste of time. It's so pointless and boring after a while. Why would you want to be addicted to a game like this, when you could be doing so much more in real life. I mean it was like the same thing every day, you look for fossils, shake the trees, put some more tacky furniture in your house, and all for what? I think that if you want this game you either have to be willing to play it for an hour each day. Personally, I think you should think about it and really think, is this worth it?

Addictive but pointless

Animal Crossing was really addictive at first, it was also somewhat fun for the first few months but after you get your expansions for your house and all the furniture you want ... there is really no point to it. Paying off Nook may take a while but in actuality, it only takes a couple of months of Stringfish, you're done.
Getting ALL the items will take a long time but getting most of the items, especially the ones you want won't take very long, especially if you're the cheating type and go and search up cheats and/or codes on the internet, it definitely doesn't take as long.
A good thing about this game are the NES games you can have in your house and also play the ones in other people's homes. The best one would have to be Wario's Woods. Talking to the people in town is different and the jobs can be worth while at first but once again, after a couple of weeks ... it's repetitive and gets extremely boring.
Seriously, this game has no storyline. It's a pointless game yet it can be addictive for the first few months you have it. If you keep a journal in your house, and you own this game for over a year or 2, you will notice how empty some of the months are because you never play.
It's almost near impossible to make the well happy, the gifts from the mayor are stupid, worthless and again pointless and Nook, Rover and Mr. Resseti never shut up. They talk and talk and it's so annoying. Rover is the worst, you just want to get to the other town to get one thing and he blabs on about some crap you already know about since this is your 100th visit.
This game can be a good buy, if you really, REALLY like it ... but it will only last a couple of months before you put it on the shelf and it starts to collect dust. I would suggest you buy it at a pawn shop for cheaper if you like it rather than spend the extra money on a game you'll never play again once you've "beaten" it (by that I mean pay off your loan, etc).

Great for kids! 22nd june 2004.

If it ever says that it is fun for everyone, then don't listen. Even though it is quite a good game, it is also quite babish. Great for a 6 year old. Maybe the game gets better as it goes along, but the graphics and setting is more for a young kid. THEY WIL LOVE IT.

no title, sorry

i have animal crossing, and its great if you love simulation games. i'd describe this as a sims for beginners. people who play lots of simulation games should stick with sims. animal crossing is very light and no real things are nessicary for survival for your little you. great if your just getting into simulation games, but should give you a... oh lets call it a beginner sim class in less then a few months. if sims is way too hard for you, this is a good game to relearn the basics.

A family favorite!

I got this game from Game stop, and started playing it as soon as i got home! There is sooooo much in the game, i wont evan bother to say, but i will say that i played it, then my sister started, then my mom started, and she playes hers for about 2 hours at a time! It's a great game for any age!(However there is a whole LOT of reading involved!)

i like the game very much. All the activities make it great. the excitement of discovery and helping others is great. The only thing I don't like is that it takes so long for things to happen.

This game is absolutely amazing! Upon entering your unique village, hey, why not make your own cool textures for your clothes and umbrella!
A collector? Then why not dig for fossils to donate to the museum or catch a rare fish, bug or bee and sell it for money?
Run errands for your friends to recieve wall paper, writing paper, and furniture!
Its all stuffed in one cool game also using GBA connecting and E-card reading . This is one game you CANT miss out on!!!

Could have been fun

The game itself was OK but seemed very much geared to kids. The game keeps real time and since the stores in the game are only open from 9 am to 10 pm, you can only play the game during those time frames. Other than that, there isn't much to do. Don't waste your money on this one.

Great I think
