Rock Band really is fun for the whole family. My husband, our 2 children, and I sit and play together for hours. We have a great time. I, unfortunately, get to be the singer. But thank goodness you can turn down the mic volume so no one has to really hear you. We have really enjoyed this game!

Fun Game, Great with Groups

I have played both Rock Band and Guitar Hero. Both are great games, but Rock band is a little more fun because you can get more people involved. We often have more than four people play at a time. You can take turns signing and a fifth person can play the base pedal. (more on that coming)

As far as the equipment, I am still undecided on the RB guitar vs the GH guitar. RB isn't wireless, and the strummer sucks. There is no resistance and very little spring to the strum bar, so sometimes you don't hit notes. GH is wireless and has a more robust strum bar. But I do like RB in that you can actually hear the songs you play, rather than the roar of clicks with the GH guitar. They are suppose to be releasing a new wireless RB guitar in April, hopefully they will be better. I might send my guitar in for repairs as well. Thankfully I already have 2 GH guitars. Everything else is good. The drums are robust and can take a beating.

Game play is probably a little better than GH. RB has you play notes more in line with the song, but you must hit the notes almost exactly. GH is more lenient on when you can hit the notes. RB also comes out with 3 new songs available on LIVE every week. GH seems to release them every two months. The only problem is the difficulty of the singing and drums. Once you start playing on Hard and start the "Impossible" difficulty songs, you start failing often. The singer must be perfectly in tune and the drummer has to be really good. Hence we have a 5th person work the base pedal.

I would recommend it over GH because it is a more social game. It looses one star only because of the suckiness of the RB guitar.

The reason I bought an XBOX 360

Playing Guitar Hero at a party was the reason I was interested in getting an XBOX 360. When I read about Rock Band it looked like a must have game to play with friends or by yourself. Having the option to play drums, guitar, or sing to classic rock and new songs is very addictive. The game is still challenging but is easy to get started. I'm 39 with young kids and don't "game" very much but when I do this is the one game I go for. My wife likes it and when we have people over this game is the center of party.

You have to play a tour to unlock songs. I was disappointed at first using Quickplay since it initially gives you about 10 songs to pick from. After passing various solo gigs I have a bunch of songs I can quick play with friends when they come over.

Great When Working Properly

My son and his friends had a ball with this over Christmas break. The only downside was that the guitar controller broke the first night. It wasn't too hard to return it, however, and they paid postage. The replacement arrived promptly and has worked okay. You can also use Guitar Hero guitar controller with the game too. The drum kit is quite impressive for the cost.

Great game, but beware of old equipment

Overall, the game is fantastic. Graphics are nice, but's it's really the gameplay and good music that keeps you coming back. The wide range of player-selected difficulty settings and inherent differences in songs results in a controllable progression of skill, from extremely difficult to incredibly hard. It's also one of only a few games that my 7-year- old is interested in and, without exception, the only game my wife has ever even stopped to look at (likes to sing). My only issue is that, as of 3 weeks ago, Amazon's stock was still 'old'. More specifically, there are well-documented issues with the instruments, particularly the guitar. My guitar followed the standard pattern (good for about 10-12 hours of gameplay before the strum bar was registering extra notes or missing notes entirely). Having said that, EA's warranty service on the guitar is fantastic. The new guitar design is completely different with respect to the strum bar, with the old version requiring metal contacts to be rotated into position and the new version relying on magnets to register strum movement. The reason that I say Amazon's stock is 'old' is that a friend of mine got this game at exactly the same time, but found it in stock at a brick and mortar electronics store and he already had the new guitar. Even at $170 and with warranty service possibly required, still a wonderful gaming investment.

This game is awesome and i would recommend it to for anyone its hours of fun while listening to some awesome songs. Everyone can get into the musical fun. My one knock on the game is the equipment, many of my friends and I have had issues with your game pieces aside from that this game is ROCKTASTIC!

This game makes you feel like you're part of band. More fun than Guitar Hero, because several people can be involved playing or singing. Anyone can follow the colored spaces to play, guitar, drums or bass.

This game is complete fun! I have two teenagers and they actually will play with their dad and I! We have friends come over and play for hours. The game allows up to four players (you have to buy another guitar though, the game comes with just one). Each player can select their own skill level to play which makes it fun for everyone. I can't wait for the next generation Rock Band!

This is for anyone that ever thought it would be cool to be a rock star. I play it with my 12 year old son, and I play it with grown ups too. It is addicting. Anyone that watches you play will want to give it a shot. They start out by saying, "Okay let me try one song on guitar" Then when that song has finished they have this look in their eye when they ask "Okay what song should we play next".

Bought Rock Band for my friend as a Christmas gift. We played it that night and had some pretty good fun. We didn't like how short the cables were and hooking up the mic, drums, and guitar can get messy. I hope a wireless solution comes out soon for this.
I agree that if playing solo it can get boring but playing with a buddy or more can be really fun.

Pros: Fun Factor, drums, multiplayer
Cons: short cables! Mic, Drum set, and guitar should be wireless
