I bought this game the day it came out.
I hurried to Toys R Us and saw the game, snatched it and payed the 30 bucks.
The ifrst tiem i tried it on, it was more than incredible. The graphics beat all the SNES Rpgs and even the Sega rpgs. The start up for the battle blew me off my seat. It was incredible. The rotation and everything is so detailed. I have never seen a battle system this cool. It beats all the RPG battle systems (This includes the fantastic Final Fantasy 7)
The game is easy to play and it is worth every single penny. The quests are very long but it is still great to play this game. Once i beat it, i will play Golden Sun over again but with a completed detailed walkthrough. Infact, i will make my own golden sun website. I can't wait till the second one comes out!!!!! YEAH!!!!!

--- Story - 10/10 - Straightforward and classic.
--- Graphics - 10/10 - The best graphics on the GBA so far. Even better than TONY HAWK 2
--- Gameplay - 10/10 - Eye-popping animations and quests.
--- Sound and Music - 10/10 - Pop in those ear phones, ladies and gentlemen, you'll love the music!!! Though it has PCish sounds, it is still great.
--- Creativity - 11/10 - What can I say???
OVERALL: 10.3/10
Over rated, LOL.
-----This game should be rated T for Teens. Because of the violence and themes for the game. ESRB did a horrible job at rating this game. I don't recommend it for children under 12. Parents will be disappointed if they bought their 8 year old this.

I bought this not knowing what I was getting into. I learned that I am not a real big fan of the Japanese-style RPGs and more of a fan of the DnD style whether it's Diablo or the TSR Goldbox games. What can I say? I likes me some hackin'!

I had quite a bit of fun at first exploring, fighting, solving puzzles, etc. The game does really have some unique twists on things as others have noted like the magic system, the Djinn, the class options. Some of the locations attracted my imagination quite bit. Many attack effects were just plain neat. You gain a power to mind read early on and that combined with the dialog is by itself pretty satisfying a lot of the time. I have no trouble believing this is a superb title in its genre.

I finished the game but it proved to be a forced march and I was very ready for it to be over. I really wanted that satisfaction of beating it, plus there were some nifty items and combats at the end that eased the monotony. Things that took its toll on me were:

A) Combat. The "Bad guys line up here, good guys line up here. Guy 1 jumps to other side, swings, jumps back. Guy 2 jumps to other side, swings, jumps back" style of fighting isn't inspiring. There was a lot to like about combat but the style in general makes me a lot less interested.

B) Railroading. I don't mind not having any options. What drives me insane is you are given the chance to choose but rarely does the choice matter and the execution of that is so clumsy that it's almost insulting. Example: Very early on, your friend Jenna asks you to go get the Stars for your mentor, Kraden. You get a choice on whether to do it. If you say "Yes", she says "Cool!!!" and you're on your way. If you say "No", she says "Don't make me mad!" and asks you again. This repeats until you say "Yes" - you can't even cancel the dialog and walk around. Why even offer the choice? That was the first time I thought about reselling my copy.

So after a while I got the feeling I was watching the story more than participating, with periodic puzzles and combat in between. That said, I thought the story was A-OK but I also haven't been so spoiled for (apparently) boilerplate RPG story lines like other reviewers. I wish I'd played around with the nifty-looking class system more. Golden Sun was some fun and some good genre edification but I'm real glad it's over.

Everything about this game is high quality. The graphics are phenomenal, the music is nice considering the limitations of the system, and the fighting system is alot of fun. But still.... I have two problems. The first issue I have is that the dialog sections of the game go on forever and way too much time is spent with characters running in circles and "thought ballooning" unhappy faces. I suppose this is meant to be funny but it is just tedious.

The second issue I have is perhaps a bit more serious. I feel that this game is sexist. You start the game with a company of three adventurers (2 boys and 1 girl) which I think is very nice. But when the characters arrive in a secret chamber that requires some platform jumping, the girl decides to leave the hard work to the boys. This of course results in her being captured, blah, blah, blah.

Now this isn't a deal breaker. The game is still very nice. But I really think that the software companies should consider allowing the player choose the sex of their on screen conterpart (ala Pokemon Crystal). You can argue that girls don't play these games, but maybe they would if they were allowed to be heros too.

A perfect example of the GBA's power.

Wow. I just finished Golden Sun and I can't wait to do it again. The backgrounds, spell effects, and the color are all amazing. Djinn summoning and utilization is intricate but simple, and add more interest to the combat system. The mono speaker doesn't do Golden Sun's great music and sound effects justice. Definitely get some headphones to fully appreciate them. There's never a lack of battles, either. Even if those get excessive, there are items and spells to reduce those encounters.

I haven't had the chance to go head-to-head in the Arena yet, but I'm confident that it's even better than battling a huge monster. The Arena is fun with just one person, too. In that case, it's like a "fight until you die" situation.

If I had any complaints, I think it would be that not being able to save at certain points after lengthy dialogue gets a little tiresome. All in all, I definitely recommend this game to any RPG fan, or even someone who hasn't played too man RPGs. This is a great introduction to them.

This game is for you. I don't care who or what you are, but once you pick this game up, all your needs disappear. Your mom calls you for dinner-"Yea, just a minute..." Half an hour later, the same thing. I couldn't go to sleep knowing that this game was in my room. I had to put it in my closet to resist it! This game is awesome. You need it. Now.

This is the reason I play video games!

I've got a GBA and had only one game for it (Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2) so I was looking at games when I remember hearing about all this hype about Golden Sun. I decided to give it a go and went ahead and bought it. Golden Sun lived up to that hype and more! The quick lowdown on this game is it's a RPG (turn-based fights with hit points and magic points) but unlike most RPGs, you can battle a friend who's got it with a game link.

The story - The story is so complex yet it's easy to follow. Basically you are a guy named Issac (if you choose the default name) who house gets busted up by a out of control rock. This rocks keeps going and kills your friend's brother Felix. Then you overhear two strangers talking about some mysterious stuff. And your cover is blowed by another one of your friend Garet. And they attack you after that and the story continues. There are many twists in the plot (not everything is what it appeared to be) and you will keep playing still you find out what happends next, it's like a really good book.

The Battles - First thing you will notice is the 180 degree spinning shot you see when you first encounter a bad guy. That is cool, and it also shows its backgrounds are not set to one dorky scene. Choosing a move is easy and the battles are fast paced and exciting.

Graphics, Sound, Play Control - The graphics throughout the game are absolutely amazing the whole time. There are no block edges on things that shouldn't be. The music is great, nothing is more annoying then music you can't stand in a game like this. The play control is pretty good. Tight turns and simple commands are easy to do but you might find some trouble working the Items menu as people can different things and sometimes you plain don't know what an itme you have is. But after a little bit, that is no longer an issue.

If you like these games, you will like Golden Sun (or if you like Golden Sun, try these games out): Final Fanasty series (PS, PS2, GB, SNES), Super Mario RPG (SNES), Dragon Warrior series (NES and GB), Paper Mario (N64), and Lufia 1 & 2 (SNES)

Doesn't matter if you are a hardcore gamer or a lightweight, this game is just waiting to be added to your collection but it will spend more time in your GBA than your shelf!

One of the BEST games for GBA!

I'm not going to waste your time telling you about the great battle system, graphics, gameplay, etc. Instead I will talk about things you may not already know about this game. First off, contrary to what some say, the storyline isn't that bad. Even if it is the weakest point, it's still pretty strong for a weak point. There are about half a dozen sub-plots going on involving dozens of other characters, and though it is confusing at time, it is stiil fun to follow if you can. Something else worth noting is that this game was meant to be a little short! You don't think they could make everything perfect do you? The fact is that there isn't quite enough room. That's why they have a sequel planned shortly! Tose of you that beat the game know that there are a lot of questions left unanswered and things left undone by the end of the game, but, just like a series of books or a good TV show, you have to wait to find out what happens next.

You'll be playing when the sun sets

Golden Sun is one of the greatest RPG games out there, especially on a handheld system such as Gameboy Advance. Let's start out with the graphics. These blew me away. It's almost like a 3-D game like Breath of Fire IV. The battle scenes are great. If you cast a spell, the lighting effects of it are the best.
The story isn't very original. It's that type where you wake up, and the earth's in trouble. But I don't care about the story. I care about gameplay
The gameplay is great. All the commands go through and it's easy to understand what to do. I'd reccomend this game to anybody.
Like I said before, with all the magic, adventures, and puzzles, you'll be pplaying long after the sun sets.

This game is just amazing. I can't imagine life without it. I haven't beaten it yet, but the concepts are awesome. There is just so much here. I don't know if I can comment it all.

We'll start with graphics. They rock. I have never seen this quality on a handheld. These graphics are better than good ol' Super Nintendo. I can't believe it. The summons and magic graphics amaze me. I first truly noticed this when I equipped the Elven Rapier, and it suddenly unleashed vorpal slash. I had no idea what unleash meant, until it happened. Awesome graphically.

Next, sound. I love the music and the fx. They remind me of Final Fantasy VII. That was easily the best RPG ever created, and the music in that game blew me away. The sound for Golden Sun is having the same effect.

Finally, gameplay. Only one thing can do it justice: Flawless.

Overall, this game is great. Get it. You won't regret it.
