Shenmue awesome game

This game was awesome. I loved how close it was to real life. shops opened and closed at different times. You had to be home to your Grandma at a certain time or she will make you come home earlier. You get allowance every morning and later in the game you even get a job. The only disappointing thing was how short the game was. But overall with its sweet 3-D graphics its one of my favorite games.

I at first had my doubts about this game. A lot of reviewers gave it lackluster scores. I have concluded that you either love this game or you hate it. That is all there is to it. I would definatly rent before you buy. The graphics are outstanding. You basically play detective throughout the whole game. I enjoyed this game. It is a experiance and a MUST if you own a Dreamcast. Bad voice acting is the only thing getting in the way of me giving it 5 stars. It is absolutly horrid. I would reccomend this game if you like details. It is basically a jumble of a bunch of games rolled into one. You can't beat that!

Is this a souped up adventure/puzzle game or a new genre? I would have to say both. This game is for the hardcore gamers who are diversed in their gaming tastes and semi-intelligent. It's not for the gamers who got to have there fix of violence and constant action ... On a 1-5 scale: the presentation gets a 5, the graphics get a 5(Just outstanding!), the sound gets a 5, the gameplay gets a 5 and the concept gets a 51 The replay value is low, which is typical of these type of games.

This game is seriously cool, it has a very involving plot, and AMAZING graphics. There is an overwhelming amount of speech in the game, and most of the voice acting is pretty good. The battle system is very exciting, and works a lot like a fighting game, like virtua fighter. It is very original. The game has some strong(ish) language later on in it, though, so it shouldn't really be for kids. It's also a little easy, but since they are coming out with like nine more sequels it's ok. A very awesome game though.

Shenmue - Sega at its best

There is no question; Shenmue is one of the best RPG's ever made. From the beginning, where the protagonist hugs his lifeless father's body, to the brief but lingering moments when you come face to face with the evil villain. How did Dreamcast fail with a game like this?

This was the first game that brought me to tears. I was a little skeptical at first, hearing that there wasn't that much to explore, but boy there was! The buildings are amazingly detailed, as is the rest of the city. The characters all follow the same patterns. There are drunks on the street, prostitutes outside bars, and just regular people going to the drug store.
The main charcters are amazing. They develop so well and so much, that I swear I was in a movie. You actually can feel their emotions, and you feel emotions for them.

Following the life of Ryo Hazuki, the story starts off after a strange man, Lan Di, comes into your residence and kills your father. Hmmm, not very nice. The villain, as evil and mysterious as villains should be, Lan Di, nows a very ancient form of martial arts. A couple of punches, and your father, a sensei, is dead. Lan Di takes the "Phoenix Mirror", which is who-knows-what, and sets off.
Meanwhile, Ryo Hazuki needs to solve this mystery. Whats is the Phoenix mirror? Who is Lan Di? Where is he from? etc. So he sets off on the journey.

The battle system works out great. There are 2 battle systems; regular kung-fu and GTE. GTE is pressing one button do dodge a punch, punch someone, break something, etc, and regular kung-fu is what it sounds like. You can practice your moves in parking lots and vacant playgrounds and master the combos. There are many different combos.

The graphics and detail are stunning. You would think you're playing ps2, and this came out more than 2 years before ps2 came out. Overall, this is a great buy. I got it for 10 bucks and played it about 2 times more than I play games that are 50 bucks. What are you waiting for? BUY IT!

Best Game Ever, but takes skill and patience

Right off the bat i'd like to note that this game is the best game any company has every made. This game takes you into a whole new world just like your own with day to day actions that make you feel as if you live in that world. The quest is GREAT and you really get into it and it can be really addicting after a while. But I won't lie and say everyone should buy this game, not everyone should. This game is a very intricate and complex detective quest. You will need to use your brain, and not just go around killing everything in sight. The other thing you will need for this game is patience. Since this game takes brains, it will need a little time for you to unravel the mystery of Ryo's fathers death. The clues aren't just going to drop in your lap, you need to keep at it and keep going. It might get frustrating after a while, but don't give up, all good games do. If you didn't get frustrated where would the challenge be? I say if you are looking for a GREAT RPG game with a very complex but realistic quest, get this game. Don't let those one star reveiws fool you. The game isn't very fast paced at times i admit, but all you need is patience. When you start to get moving the game can be EXCELLENT!!!The graphics are AMAZING also. I've seen a lot of reviews say they hate the characters talk. But let me ak you something, wouldn't you rather listen than have to sit there and read a crap load of subtitles. Bottom line is if you are look a great RPG game with a VERY realistic world with time, changing wheather, the freedom to tons of things(i.e. drink a soda, talk on the phone, ride the bus, buy toys from a machine, and talk to people in the towns), and work through an awesome story line, then look no further, Shenmue is the game for you!!

this game has to be the best RPG of all time. It's my personal favorite game.in the game you can do anything in this game you can spend the whole day in the arcade if you wany to. The fighting is great to. Theres a bunch of cool combos and you can buy more. theres some major twists in the story to, you'll find the game amazing

(...)If you don't have that game get it. I'll guarantee it you will love it.
When i bought it, the first day i played it like 6-7 hours,
couldn't belive how much fun it is.
You can play old sega games like.. Space Harrier, play darts
and a lot more.
I LOVE THE GRAPHICS !! Unbelivabe.

I would like to say a lot of more about this game but it would be too long... sorry

My friend had bought this game, hes like "Man you have to buy it now serious!!" and I went to the store looked at it, I was like ehh alright then, the graphics look hott. Took it home, damn that whole night was gone!! Gone playing Shenmue lol. This game is one of the best games ever made. But then again its a really underrated game for how good it is. Its better than most games out there right now but its hardly noticed by gaming fans, I would ask people sometimes if they knew what game Shenmue was and they wouldnt know. But this game has one of the best story lines in any game, and it keeps you playing and playing because you want to see what happens next. The fighting is really fun and the QTE battles. One thing I like is that when you need to wait a couple hours for a place to open etc, you can go to the arcade and mess around on the games, thats fun especially the boxing game lol. But you if you have a Dreamcast, buy this game dont hesitate!!
