What a game!

Having never played this game on the PS2, I can't be happier. I first played the game at FYE on April 1 and I was immediately hooked. I didn't do to well playing it at FYE, but you wouldn't have known that once I got the game home.

Graphically, I personally don't think they are any thing special, on the other hand you are not buying the game because of the graphics, and to me you get so focused on playing the guitar you don't have time to watch the band or the crowd.

The biggest question that I have seen is this worth the money? Yes and No, yes if you don't have the PS2 version, and no if you have the PS2 version.

The one thing I really like about this game is how it works your hand eye coordination. Which I think is great for the younger people. I also like how you can practice just like you would a real guitar, and over 70 songs to chose from should keep you busy for a while.

Lots o' Fun

Update:
No patch for online play coming... We'll have to all wait for Guitar Hero III in October which promises to include a whole bundle of online content not found in this game. Only a few more months, hold in there!

Guitar Hero II is a blast for new-comers and veterans alike. After hearing so much about this game from friends, I had to make the leap into this series.
Although $90 is a bit steep, the game has alot replay value in different difficulty settings and achievement points. I've also heard rumors that they might create a patch for online play in the future, which would bring even more value to the game.
The game has a lot of character and really nails that rock feel, from the menus to music during the game. Sometimes I get so engrossed in the game I forget that I'm just playing a video game. It's that good...
The X-plorer guitar is pretty comfortable and sturdy, but I don't think it's worth $60 as a separate purchase. In addition, if there are any leftie players out there debating buying this. You just flip the guitar and put on the lefty switch (which also gives you the Hendrix Award for 10 achievement points. Nice!)
My only pet-peeve is that "Easy" doesn't allow you access to the store for purchasing new guitars, outfits, etc. Which is a bit annoying for new-comers who have to really hone their skills to reap all the benefits of the game.
Overall though, it's a blast and I would recommend it.

I wish I could give this at least six stars

This game is so much fun that it's hard to know exactly where to begin writing this review.

The song selection is pretty sweet and being that we're gonna get more songs to download through Xbox Live in the very near future, the shelf life of this game is probably going to last extremely long. Most of the tracks are covers but they're really well produced. There may be a couple of tracks from artists that will make you wonder why they chose those in particular when they could have chosen other, better titles but still, I'm willing to bet that you'll discover songs that you've never really heard before and fall in love with them (the Allman Brothers "Jessica" is now a personal fave).

Rocking out with a buddy in a house full of people is where you really see the sheer entertainment value that this title possesses. It's one of those games that you can screw up really badly in while playing and still have a blast.

The graphics are in high def and even though it doesn't have the visuals of something like Gears of War, who cares? They're still nice graphics and the character antics are pretty funny to watch (I love watching the characters run from one end of the stage to the other, it cracks me up).

And I guess I should close by saying that if you're gonna get this game, don't even think of playing it without the guitar. It's the reason this game is so fantastic. It feels nice and has pretty much everything you need to navigate the dashboard right on the face. Your fingers will feel like burger meat after trying to play songs like "Psychobilly Freakout" and "Jessica" on anything above medium difficulty but as soon as they feel normal again, the guitar will find its way back in your hands.

An instant classic.

If you liked guitar hero 2 for the ps2, you'll love this one. It's the exact same thing except they add some songs and extras and made the graphics better. The guitar controller is very good, having a xbox guide button and mic port so you could still use your friend's list and talk in private chats and messages. My only complaint is that star power is a little harder to activate. ( what i mean is you have to tip the guitar more then before) but gameplay easily overcomes it. Some people complain that the ps2 version was better, but how could that be when this one is exactly the same except with more extras in it? Overall this is a very good game and I would recommend it for anyone. By the way this isn't a kid's review.

Reason for no online co-op

In this game, lag is very crucial. If you have any lag it could mess up your whole session. So if you were to play it over line then it could lag and be annoying and they could really never make it lag free. This is the reason they didn't make online co-op.

I just got this bundle yesterday and it was even better than I expected. I'm not the youngest gamer out there and so I was worried about the learning curve, but within no time I was having the time of my life. Only downfall is the guitar isn't wireless, so when you try to use starpower the cord flies everywhere.

Incredibly Fun Game - But A Few Flaws in This Version

The Guitar Hero series has finally ported over to the XBox platform- and takes a step up the console ladder by reaching the current generation of graphics. The game is of course awesome, but there is so much more they could have done.

First, the great part. This game is incredibly fun. We've played the PlayStation versions for hours and hours. When we took the XBox version home, we played it for hours straight that first night. The interface is great, the songs are great, and you really get hooked into the fun. Sure, not every person will love every song. You'll have to play a few you don't adore to progress through the career mode. Still, there are enough that you really love to keep you going.

With Guitar Hero II there's a great two player mode where one person plays guitar and the other plays the bass line. It's really a ton of fun.

Why would we get the XBox version when we have the PS2 version? First, we don't keep the PS2 in the main living room any more on the high def TV, so having the XBox 360 version means we can enjoy it easily with friends when they come over. Second, you can download new songs! I realize they only have 9 new songs as of launch, but I'm of course hoping they create an entire library for us to play with. That makes the game infinitely fun.

The graphics really don't matter at all. When you're playing, all you're watching is the series of notes coming at you, and listening to the music. As long as you have your TV hooked into a great stereo, you're pretty much all set.

With all this greatness, what's not wonderful? Well, first, everything in the new generation is wireless. We keep our consoles back on the wall because of this. Our networks are all wireless. It's really odd to have a controller come out that is required to wire into the console. Rumor is that they tried to make a wireless version and didn't get it done "in time" to release the game - but I would rather they have waited until the game was really ready.

Next, the guitar layout itself is really odd. The start / select buttons are TINY and are extremely far from the finger positions. This makes them pretty much useless. I've also heard that many people had defective guitars where the bar would not work. Nothing is more frustrating than playing a game and not having the controller respond properly.

When you buy new songs, you are forced to buy them in sets of three - even if you only want one in the set. This is of course an easy way for them to rack up much higher sales prices for themselves. A few of them are games from Guitar Hero I which obviously they had already coded, and just chose not to include for free in GHII.

If you don't own any of the Guitar Hero series, and you have an XBox 360, then certainly buy Guitar Hero II from your XBox 360. The game is incredibly fun and you should have at least one copy in the house. If you already own the PS2 version, then it's probably not worth it to upgrade. Hold on until Guitar Hero III comes out, which should hopefully fix a number of these issues.

A great came, for kids and adults. My son and his friends love to play muliplayer together. This game is fun for adults, like all games it takes alot of practice. The only disadvante is you can only plug in 1 guitar.

Guitar Hero 2 Bundle is lots of fun. It's feels just like your playing the real electric guitar. I love it.
