Duel Monsters 5: Expert I

This is a great game ive played it many times in japanese. It is the 5th game in the awsome series of Yugioh Duel Monsters games. Its original name is Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters 5: Expert I and it is the first Yugioh game ever that acctually uses the real rules to the card game and almost every card is on that game! It' is the third best duel monsters game ever next to the sequel Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters 6: Expert II and the to be released in japan July 4, Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters 7: Duel City Legends. That means that Yugioh the imortal duelist soul is defently a keeper and that all yugioh fans should buy it. Its way better than the previously released Dark Duel Stories cause no more [junky] deck capacity or duelist level, you can put any card in at any time. The best part is u can have more than 40 cards now. This is a very, very good game i recomend that all yugioh fans big and small time should get it.

I remember when I first played DDS(Dark Duel Stories), the game was very innacurate to the original Trading Card Game. Why? Some of the rulings were bizzare beyond compare, such as the "element advantage" meaning Kuriboh could beat a Blue Eyes White Dragon because Shadow (Kuriboh's element) destroys Light (Blue Eyes's element). There were cards unnafected by this, such as Gate Gaurdian, Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon, and Magician of Black Chaos. From all of the articles I have read about The Eternal Duelist Soul, this game should be very accurate toward the original card game, a flaw that DDS had that made it its own undoing. Also, card effects that DDS lacked nearly entirely are now restored in EDS, that means Man-Eater Bug can destroy opposing monsters, Witch of the Black Forest will be able to recruit monsters from your deck, and much, much more! The Eternal Duelist Soul comes packaged with Graceful Dice, Skull Dice, and Exchange. Graceful Dice is a Magic card that reads: Roll a 6-sided die, increase the ATK and DEF of your monsters by 100 points times the number rolled. Skull Dice is a Trap card that reads: Roll a 6-Sided die. Decrease the ATK and DEF off all monsters on your opponent's side of the field by 100 times the number rolled. I'm not sure about what Exchange does, other than its a magic card. Don't belie me that I know what cards are packaged. Fine. Say my review was unhelpful and call me a liar all you want. Just wait until the game comes out and you will see that I was correct.

This game is a lot different from DDS or Forbidden Memories. It includes every Yu-gi-oh game card ever created and it includes all the official rules of the Yu-gi-oh trading card game. Your deck can now have a maximum of 50 cards and no more star chips, or deck capacity, or duelist level. You can include any cards you wish and all the english cards are there! All the effects are exactly like the real trading card game. It is definetly worth the money. Compared to this, DDS and forbidden memories don't stand a chance.

Me again y'all! I bought this game a day ago and it was so cool I couldn't take myself off of playing it! Believe me, I think it's cool next to FORBIDDEN MEMORIES. It also has its own PASSWORD section but instead of star chips, you just get it in a snap! I got Barrel Dragon, Harpie's Pet Dragon, Blue-Eyes Toon Dragon, Manga Ryu-Ran, Red-Eyes B. Metal Dragon, Polymerization, and both Blue-Eyes and Red-Eyes. Also, this game only follows the rules of the official game: it took me a while before I could master it.
Another neat part of this game is the Yu-Gi-Oh! Magazines. It gives you 5 cards each Tuesday and the 21st of the month. In my first Yu-Gi-Oh! monthly magazine, I got the WINGED DRAGON OF RA and Dark Magician Girl in the second. So if you are planning to get one of these great games, I'm sure you'll be amazed of how Konami can make such fun and enjoyable games.

The Eternal Duelist Soul is the first US Yu-Gi-Oh! game to follow the EXACT rules of the TCG. The game is Duel Monsters 5 with some features from the best Yu-Gi-Oh! game ever made, Duel Monsters 6 Expert 2. The game allows you to have a max of 50 cards as opposed to 40, has no lame Deck Capacity or Duel Level which means you can put in any card you want, and features every booster expansion up to Curse of Anubis as well as a few exclusive DM5 boosters. The password feature is another improvement. In FM, you had to input a password & the buy the card for a certain amount of Star Chips. That's not the case here though; when a password is entered, the card will automatically appear in you Bag. Another thing I should mention is that now you can also have a Side Deck, a deck consisting of 15 cards you can use to modify your deck inbetween duels. Last but not least, the game also comes with 3 exclusive Promo Cards. DM5 came with Gilfar Demon, Toon Dark Magician Girl, & I forget the last card.

I'll say it short and simple, this game is awesome. When I bought this game, the only reaosn i bought it was because i was a Yu-Gi-Oh fanatic. Now though, i think anybody should by it. THe game is very accurate to the real game now (except the password option doesn't include a lot of the pharoh's servant cards). The game is very fun and is excellent.. In addition, you get three promos, skull dice, graceful dice, and exchange. I won't tell you what they do so you have to buy it to see!

If you love Yu Gi Oh! then you'll love this game. Eternal Duelist Soul is much better than Dark Duel Stories, with notable improvements in graphics and gameplay. The graphics & sound still aren't up to par with some of the powerhouses on the GBA (Golden Sun and Metriod Fusion), but this ain't no lousy Shrek. In my opinion, it's the best Yu Gi game out in the US market to date.

You can build a main deck of up to 50 cards now, and this includes being able to add cards that you actually own via passcode (printed on bottom left-hand side of the trading cards). This should be great news to people who want to play an Exodia deck, but who can't shell out over [ ] for the 5 card set and who can scour the net for the passcodes to each individual card. I have found that this is slightly helpful with testing a deck you want/have for real-life tournament readiness. It would be the complete testing source for this purpose if the pass system would let you enter the same code more than once (to have multiple copies of unrestricted tourney-legal cards), thus enabling you to replicate your real-life deck card for card. Even with this major oversight, the card management system is easy to use and a snap for adding and removing cards.

As for the dueling, you can challenge a host of the anime's stars like Joey and Kaiba, you can enter the game's tournaments and duel other competitors, or you can link up GBAs for a vs. match. It is great to learn the different deck themes by dueling the game's AI. For instance, my ideal deck had a slight weakness to Dino decks (which was made evident when my first loss came after dueling Rex), but was a great Exodia & Dragon deck pounder (I played an experiemental beatdown/defense deck that admittedly should only be a beatdown deck). The presentation of the duel area is nice, and the menu screens are surprisingly uncluttered and easy to use to on the small GBA screen. Viewing card descriptions is a snap, but NOT at one of the most important times during a duel: chains. When a chain has been started, you can't read the descriptons of cards in order to remind yourself of what a trap/monster effect/magic card does once activated. This hinders being able to plan a link in the chain (counter) effectively. This is my main problem with Eternal Duelist Soul. Chains are the most complicated aspect of Yi Gi Oh dueling, and this should have been a no-brainer area of the game to have be smooth and exactly like the trading card game.

Most of my earlier duels have been somewhat easy, but after playing about 11 games, the duels got much harder and fun. Unlocking new booster packs through winning duels is a neat reward, even if some cards don't do anything for your deck. Another goodie includes winning susbscriptions to Yu Gi Oh! Weekly (in-game only) which comes with a booster pack. The 3 promo cards that come with the game are the icing on a Yu Gi Oh fan's cake. But since they ARE NOT TOURNAMENT LEGAL (promos made by Konami can not be used in official tournaments because they aren't made by Upperdeck), they aren't useful except for collecting.

Overall, this is a great game to have, and a great item for Yi Gi Oh fans. It would have scored a 5 if the graphics and some gameplay mechanics had been better. Even so, if you are really into Yi Gi Oh!, besides this great game I'd recommend 1. snagging a copy of the 1st US Shonen Jump to read the Yu Gi story (manga) from the very beginning (no, the US show isn't the beginning--it's really season 2) and to snag a limited edition tournament-legal variant of the Blue Eyes White Dragon card! 2. getting a hold of some of the subtitled JP anime (warning Yami Yugi is more PG-13ish in the JP version) to get some stories that the US crowd have missed and to learn about the host of other games played by the Yu Gi crew like DDM (Dungeon Dice Monsters), and 3. most importantly, keeping your eye out for the Joey and Pegasus starter decks in early 2003!

Don't listen when people say that the decks you get stink. I got 3 Blue Eyes really quickley. Yu-Gi is not the Hardest duelist to beat Yami Yu-Gi is 10xxxxxxxxxx harder. Trust Me this game rocks and really teaches you the game play of Yu-Gi-Oh....

The Best Game Boy CTCG I've Played

Yu-Gi-Oh! The Eternal Duelist Soul is quite simply the best collectible trading card game I've played for any handheld console.
For starters, there are over 800 different cards available, with virtually all magic, trap, and flip effects fully intact and playable--a quantum leap above and beyond the comparatively sad effort found in Konami's Dark Duel Stories for the Game Boy Color. These cards may be won, granted after playing against a given number of opponents, traded with live players via Link Cable, or imported from actual cards by entering the card's password number.
Although the initial opponents are relatively easy to defeat, players will find that the challenge will increase as quickly as they want it to, by advancing to higher stages at the earliest opportunity, or by repeatedly battling lower level characters to improve the pool of cards from which to build their decks. In addition to the literally dozens of in-game opponents to battle, a player may challenge any other player to a duel via the Game Boy Link Cable.
The deck edit interface makes it easy to sort and find cards by type, name, or statistics. The only room for improvement in this category would be the ability to store more than one deck composition and collect those of defeated opponents, ala The Pokemon CTCG for the Gameboy Color--this would allow players to copy, adapt, or change the basic theme of their decks much more quickly between matches.
In short, this is a brilliantly executed CTCG that easily surpasses the complexity and playability of any previous effort for any hand-held console. This is both its greatest strength and its one drawback: Although it's rated "E" for everyone, many players under the age of 10 will likely become frustrated by the repeated butt-kicking the in-game opponents will deliver to the unwary.
I look forward to seeing the sequel, which I understand has recently become available.
