For one thing yes you need pixel shader 1.1. No you dont need to spend $100 on a new card that has it. $30 bucks will get you a card that runs it. These negative reviews about people needing pixel shaders are BS. A pixel shader is in almost every card nowadays. Its very common. And also. There are people complaining that dells should be able to run it. Dells are crap. All prebuilt computers crap. Build your own. Its easy.

All you need to run it is a nvidia card, a bit of ram, and a decent processor. The problem is most of the people who write the negative reviews have REALLY BAD COMPUTERS. This game is fun. its a bit short, but you'll enjoy EVERY second of it.

Most PC's won't support graphics

A huge disappointment. After spending 20 minutes navigating the company's tech support that the game will not run on PC's with ANY Intel graphics card. It only supports NVDIA - what a tremendous fraud. The worst part is the box downplays the graphics requirements. Stay far away from this game unless you want to spend hours adding new hardware.

If I could rate this game lower than 1 star I would.

You need an NVIDIA Video card to play this game.

My 2 month old PC doesn't support Pixel Shader 1.1 so this game won't run on it.

My 9 yr old son purchased the game with his own money. I hope Lego and Eidos realize they have just lost a young customer (and his parents)

Be very careful to check your video card before purchasing this game.

This is so stupid. The requirements for this game are WAY too precise! If you don't have a new computer you can't play this game. You need a very up to date video card to play. If you don't have a GEFORCE 3 card, you're shot. What a piece of junk!!!!!

High tech requirements

Couldn't get Lego Star Wars computer version to play, requires a high end video card that can support shading(hence the average of 3 star review to warn people). Why did they decide to program a game like this for such steep video graphics requirements is not known, but it seriously limits the number of people that can play the game. Gave the game to my friend and his 1 year old emachines computers and HP laptop also didn't have the super graphics card. After 3 computers and 1 laptop, don't waste your time unless you have a computer specifically designed for high end graphics. which means if you bought your dell, hp, or any other computer from a chain store (like my friend and I), you most likely won't be able to install and play the game.
They lost a sale trying to make eye candy with super graphics instead of making a game that the average person can actually install and play with their kids.

Spoke to a manager at an Electronics Boutique store. The PS2 version the game is suppose to be fun but short, about 10 hours worth of playing. Oh well, guess my computer will never know.

Let Down By Lego

In a nutshell we have a 2001 computer which does not meet the required video card requirements (as well as 2003 Laptop, the same lack of requirements). After spending time with Dell, on-line and finally at the EIDOs Chat Rooms, it is apparent that this is not an isolated problem. In fact may people in the EIDOs chat room were much harsher in their criticisms of EIDOS, Star Wars and Lego.

In short the game did not run at all. In order to so, we would need to buy a new computer or invest in a new card which might or might not run the program properly.

A game being produced for the mass market, and age group, by a brand name such as Lego, should be making a bigger issue of the need for state of the art hardware. Our nine year old selected this after doing on-line research (all glowing, see the rest of the Amazon reviews) as well as the school yard buzz.

We are now stuck with a $30 opened package (not returnable to Amazon or anyone else) and no way to play. Well at least it is an attractive box and will look good on the shelf.

I have had a really great time playing this game. Its not too long filled with secrets and just plain goofy.

Another defective disk

Yep, same problem here. Get "Wrong disc inserted. Please insert the original CD/DVD." when trying to run the game. Another child disappointed. Apparently this is not a new problem. From what I can tell a bunch of bad disks were manufactured.

As of 12/26, 3:00 pm EST, I was able to get to a recording regarding a replacement CD at (800) 252-1738. The menu prompts you to enter "13" if you need a replacement CD and then asks you to leave your name and number. It states that someone will call on the next business day to arrange a replacement. I will post an update once I am contacted.

UPDATE 12/27/05: I was contacted for a replacement CD. After providing some information from the original CD and packaging (to establish I have a legitimate copy apparently) I was told that a replacement CD would be mailed out tomorrow via 1st class mail. Will post again when I receive my new CD.

UPDATE 12/27/05: I had e-mailed Amazon about the trouble I (and others) were having and said I was trying to resolve it with Eidos. Today a new copy arrived from Amazon. Don't know if they did anything special to see that I received one that wasn't a bad disk, BUT THIS ONE WORKS!!!

UPDATE 12/30/05: I received my replacement disk. I did not install from it as I did receive a working copy from Amazon as mentioned previously.

lego star wars is gonna be awesome!

This game to me looks like a whole lot of fun and I can't wait to fight out Star Wars Episode III Revenge of the Sith!

Worst PC game I ever installed

I have an HP PC from 2006, so the system could easily handle any demands the game made to the hardware. My first warning this game would be terrible was that every time I put the CD in, it would automatically try to install the game! This is just lazy production quality. Then, I would have to go to the directory of the game and delete the SBWIN file every time I wanted to play! I found this tip on the support website, with the actual admission on that page that they didn't know what causes the problem or how to fix the problem but to just keep doing this workaround. Please, can the programmers get any more lackadaisical about their own product?

If I want puzzles, I will go back to my beloved MYST series. Lego Star Wars became nothing more than a confusing morass of exercises in raising blood pressure and wanting to bash in the PC with a heavy hammer. This game has an identity crisis--is it action or puzzles? Tries to do both and fails at both. Because it is something with the "LEGO" brand on it, we thought our kids would enjoy it, but when I couldn't even play or enjoy it you can certainly figure out the kids don't stand a chance.

The manual doesn't fully explain how to play the game, and you are left guessing what to do in each chapter, while your character dies repeatedly and loses it's credits. Then, if you have a sudden flash of inspiration and figure out what you are supposed to be doing, the game hits you with timed runs, or takes control away from you, or only gives you limited control, changes the view of the stages forcing your directional controls to be misaligned with the arrow buttons (your natural intuition is ignored--you are smart enough to know where you want to go, but the game won't let you or makes it exceedingly difficult), and most frustrating of all your own allied characters keep getting in your way to once again insult you with simply pathetic game design.

If you enjoy doing a challenge over and over and over and over and over until you want to vomit, then by all means get this and version II. Then, to "finish" the game by returning to all of the levels of electronic torture, you get to go back with a group of characters to try and collect all the bonuses spread throughout the game. This is something else the manual fails to mention, so you end up wasting time and patience not knowing you have to come back later, with characters specific to the challenges. I won't even get into the character switching nightmare required to accomplish the return to the levels.

Save yourself the frustration, skip this LEGO Star Wars garbage.

I've played this thing through several times to unlock the levels for my kids. The SBWIN file issue seems to have evaporated, but this game crashes about 75% of the time frustrating all of your efforts. There is no save game during a scenario to avoid redoing all of your work over and over again. However, a new issue has popped up and the game locks up on specific levels with certain characters during freeplay mode, most notably using Yoda in 'Jedi Battle'. The program becomes so corrupted I've had to uninstall/reinstall several times. However, now that the kids are bored with it, this and the sequel are now permanently removed from my system. Time to get better Jedi games.
