This was another one of those games which I had no interest in, but downloaded the demo and ended up buying. I thought the demo was pretty fun, and my son loved it. This game is definitely geared towards kids, so if you're an adult and you're not a Star Wars fan, I wouldn't recommend it. But if you're a kid and/or a Star Wars fan, I'd suggest downloading the demo and giving it a shot.
The game allows you to play several missions based in Episodes I, II, and III. Most of the missions are ground-based, with a few vehicle-based missions in the mix. The graphics are surprisingly effective, and the gameplay is simple -- not always too easy, but easy enough for young children. There's also a "Free Play" mode in which you can replay any level you've completed, using any of the characters you've unlocked. And there are a large number of characters available for you to gain through the collection of Lego "studs" (the little, flat, round pieces, which act as coins in the game). Each character has a unique ability, be it use of the Force (which can manipulate Lego pieces to construct objects), or the ability to travel through air vents or use grapling hooks. Replaying the levels in Free Play mode allows other secrets to be unlocked, providing a good amount of replay value.
It's not for everyone, but if you're even mildly interested, I'd recommend trying the demo -- you just might like it.
Wrong disk - ditto; recall? what recall? Oh - and you DO have "pixel shading", don't you?

Not much to add here - also can install but not run, same "Wrong disk inserted" message referred to here. All of the posted workarounds (disable fast user switching, Win 2000 compatibility mode, etc) were unsuccessful. No patch available and customer support info not helpful.
Note however that this CD was purchased online "after" this title was pulled from the shelves of a major retailer, ostensibly due to a recall (per the staff at the store); at the time there was no information available online about any recall of this product. Guess they were right...
Very very disappointing to my eight-year-old.
Now, that being said, the phone number listed elsewhere was quickly answered and replacement disk was quickly sent - which led to experiencing the second problem... the infamous "pixel shading" requirement, which was not well advertised. I was quite irritated to find that the video in my son's 1-year-old system was NOT compatible with this feature. However, the 3-year-old NVIDIA card in my system was compatible, and works well. Of course, my son loves the game! (So I can't get him off of my system...)
** Issue: No way to configure/run game without the "pixel shading" feature - and no PRE-INSTALL check to verify whether the system supports this MANDATORY requirement! - - (C'mon, folks, this is an INEXCUSABLE lapse...) **
Bottom line: The game is lots of fun, if you can get it to run.
Quality control issue and lack of graphics compatibility make this a painful purchase, though, so my one-star review remains.
Great game ignore the techno dolts

The poor reviews are from people who couldn't get the game to run. NEWS FLASH: If your machine doesn't meet the requirements it won't run! Just because the old hand me down machine that your kid has in his room won't run it doesn't mean its a bad game. The average childrens game will run on an old computer. This is not your average game. I think the game is great and it runs on my machine fine....I built my computer less than 6 months ago.
Ignore the other reviewers, buy the game. If you don't believe me check out some gaming sites to see what their reviews were (they're very good BTW).
Specs need to be on the product listing, not in reviews

This didn't run on my PC and I can't return it. My son, who has been a Lego fan for 6 years, didn't read the product specs before opening his birthday present, so we can't return it either. There were no system requirements describing what kind of PC we needed, it just said the product runs on a PC. Horrible customer experience. Son in tears. Shoppers, draw your own conclusions.
Shame On Lego!!!

Whoever, at Lego, was in charge of overseeing the production of the Lego Star Wars PC game should be FIRED!!! I was amazed that a company the size of Lego would release a game for children that requires a PC configured for a hard core gamer who would not even think about buying this game. That Lego would collaborate with a company and allow them to build the software such that it relies upon and requires a video card which supports PIXEL SHADER technology is UNBELIEVABLE!!! Very, very few video cards support this technology. With most stores refusing to return software that has been opened, a majority of consumers will be out $30. Had I not raised my voice and created a scene at customer service, I would have been one of those consumers and the best I got was store credit. Before buying this software, please make sure that your PC's video card has PIXEL SHADER support.

This may be the greatest computer game ever given as a gift to children. We wouldn't know, because, two weeks after unwrapping, we still cannot install the defective game.
You see, the anti-piracy measures on the disk are defective and misrecognize the disk as a pirated copy. Here, in full, is the email we received, from Securom.Thank you for your email. SecuROM is detecting that you are trying to start the program with a copy instead of the original. This may be the result of a production defect and not related to the copy protection. Therefore, please send us all of the numbers on the inner ring of the data side of your disc, especially the very small one that starts with IFPI.
If you have a scanner, could you please scan the disc and send us this scanned picture (where we can read all the numbers).
I am sorry for the inconvenience, but thank you for your cooperation and patience.Whether the defect is the fault of Securom or Eidos, I would encourage game buyers to avoid their games, especially as gifts for children, until they can get their anti-piracy measures to be a little less anti-consumer.
Great game, but it's hard!

Not easy for a little kid, or that easy for an adult, either.

This is the first PC game that I have ever purchased for my kids that I could not run because of not having pixel shader 1.1. Not only is the game expensive, but also disappointing once I had to explain to my kids that it doesn't work on our computer. Not only that, but eidos.com has no technical support available for this game at all, although they claim to in the instruction booklet. This game will be going back to the store ASAP!
Great game.... if you can get it to work

I bought this game for my son because he loved playing the demo in the store so much. Unfortunately, just like many many other reviewers, this game will not work on my computer. This is particularly frustrating because this computer is not even a month old. There is no way I'm going to drop another $155 to upgrade a new computer just to play this game no matter how cute it is. Be VERY VERY careful... do NOT waste $30 on this game unless you are absolutely positive that your computer has the right kind of video card.
Incredibly misleading - I'd call it false advertising

This was the most sought-after present for my 9-year old son, whose birthday is today. Upon opening it, and installing it on our new Dell computer, the game did not run. It doesn't run on any of the PC's in our house. Spent an hour with Dell tech support, who told me they don't MAKE a computer this runs on! So, the #1 PC company doesn't make a computer this game runs on, but it's called "PC Software". Right.
There's no mention of the system requirements on the Amazon site, so I completely disagree with those putting down people "who don't read the specs" - they're not here!
So here goes: after you've received the box, you'll see you don't have the recommended "Pentium 4.2GHz or Anthlon equiv", "100% DirectX Compatible Direct3D Card with Pixel Shader Support, 64MB Video RAM and 500MB free disk space," the game will not run.
Amazon should update the product listing, and be clear about the specs. Eidos Interactive in San Francisco needs to get a clue about marketing their products with integrity. The front of the box says "PC software" - but I'll bet this won't run on 98% or more of the PC's out there today.
Run, don't walk, away from this game now, unless you have a souped up gaming PC.
