Live Another Life......

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 0 / 0

This game is immense. Your the commander of your own ship that can travel entire galaxies. Your given missions and side jobs to earn credits, create allies, find your enemies, and earn a reputation. It has real time, in-game dialog. Which means it lets you say or respond to whomever your talking to with a variety of choices. Its a interesting first for a game that I've played, and its fun. You can be the hero, or the bad boy all depending on how you respond to aliens. There is a main plot or story, but its really open ended. The gun fights are primitive, but the gun upgrades and armor upgrades can be fun. The key to this game is you must explore like crazy. If you do not have patience, or significant time to donate to this game...then its not for you. Its not that hard to achieve all the goals in this game....its just remembering all you have to do can be tiring. All in all, its unique experience. Graphics wise, its good. Not the best out there, but the all the characters move and talk in a manner that is almost as good as some PC games out there. Worth while investment over all.

One of the Best Ever for any console.

Read the other five star reviews already here for in depth discussion on all the superb aspects of this game. No need to repeat everything they've said - I agree with every single point. Highest marks for gameplay, music score, fun, replay value, atmosphere, and overall presentation. This has a massive world to explore and discover and mysteries abound at every stop. Highest Possible Recommendation. Over and out.

If you are looking for a game with a great story line, go with this.

Even for beginners, as I am, this game has great game play and even better replay value. This is an amazing game for Veteran players, as I've heard.

Too Slow on 360

I think this game would have played better on the PC because the load times for the console really ruined the game. There are great RPG elements to the game in customizing the character and a relatively smart dialog system. The cutscenes are beautifully rendered and the story is as good as sci-fi gets. The gameplay, however, is lacking in action, and the dialog and quests are pretty boring. This is the type of game for someone who likes wandering around a virtual world for hours.

One major pet peeve was the expensive weapon upgrades and not obvious ways of earning cash to buy them.

RPG meets Action/Adventure

This game is a great combination of RPG and Action/Adventure. The graphical presentation is very well done, levels load quickly, the dialogue options and game options are great as well. It has some live action elements of actually allowing full control of characters but also has multiple plot options, character level ups and various strategy that might not be involved in most standard action games. It's a great mix and well worth the price.

What I would have to say about this game is really nothing different than what anyone else has written already, on the positive side and negative side. The game is fun, addictive, has great replay value (I've played it 3 times), and has you feaning for a second one. Once in a while I'll scurry the Net looking for any tidbits on ME2. The only negative thing about this game is the sidequests. There are a few that are extremely fun, i.e. the mission where you have to help a squad of alliance team members hold back attacking reapers. That was great. Hopefully the side missions will correlate with the story a little more in the next one. I understand ALL of them cannot, but at least a few.

It's an alright game....

I'd like to say that this game is an average. The controles are clean and the story is amusing, but aside from that, I just can't rave on it. For me, there is way to much yapping and not enough shooting, and the side missions remind me of old RPGs. On a great price, it's worth picking up, and it shows replay for things you missed the first time around, but definatly IMO not worth full price or gamestore used.

Few Complaints

I've always played and enjoyed RPGs. When Bioware announced this game, I wasn't that interested, and didn't get interested until after its release. I bought it, but it was on a list of second choices. I was pleasantly surprised when I started playing it. I don't like many shooters, but this one makes it easy for anyone to play, but doesn't hand you an IWIN button. I imagine the gameplay wouldn't be as enjoyable for those who play shooters the most, though.

The Mako, the off-road vehicle you travel the surface of planets in, was fun at first but got repetitive towards the end. However, I did go on every available planet, whether I actually needed to or not, so a lot of the riding around could have been avoided.

I felt the story was solid, and you have plenty of choices to make to develop your character. The paragon/renegade system was nice - new and still serving the same purpose without being contrived. I was occasionally unhappy with the dialogue system, but overall it's a great feature. The conversations felt very cinematic and I wanted to listen to them so it was nice not to have to read my character's dialogue twice while still being able to choose my own words.

Recently my disc was scratched, before I got a chance to play through a second time. I purchased it again, after a month or two of debating, because it was that enjoyable.

A Truly Fascinating Game

I am not a big RPG person at all. My RPG history is Evolution, FFVII, FFX, then I played Invisible War (Deus Ex) which I loved and want to do over and over again, but then I got MASS EFFECT! This took Invisible War, upgraded added and refined it. If you are all about action and shooting only, then this is not the game for you. But if you like a great story line, squad based action, great graphics and sound, huge systems to explore and customization. This game will have you riveted.

I highly recommend Mass Effect

A fun run into outer-space.... with aliens!

This game alone is keeping the space faring sci-fi genre alive in the video game world. The imagination of the developers was really projected well into the atmosphere, aliens, interactions between said aliens and history of the universe they've created. So, basically it's how a bioware game is supposed to be.

If you've been disappointed with nwn2, like I was, this game should reinvigorate your love for what Bioware does. It plays out a lot like Knights of the old Republic, with things like the "light" and "dark" side being replaced by the terms "paragon" and "renegade" respectively as well as some abilities (like "lift") which would seem right at home in the Star Wars universe.

While one could say that the indoor, over the shoulder shooting style of the game is some of the best fun to be had in a game, the exact opposite is true for whatever adventures you have in the Makko -- the remote control-looking all terrain vehicle that traverses through sometimes impossible to navigate terrain. You just don't drive from battle to battle in this vehicle, you have to fight from within it by means of a mounted machine gun and a mounted grenade launcher that I have yet to identify. It is truly disappointing that the majority of the game (if you decide to do the sidequests) is played through this crappy car.
