One of the best visual games I have ever seen.

I am a big gamer and there are not many games that visualy have caused me to buy. AC is a great looking game over all. Game play took some time to get use to and it a bit redonedent with the same basic missions in each city but as you progress, they get more and more difficult. Love playing it!

Fun but Limited

This game combines Spiderman, Splinter Cell, and Crackdown into one impressive free for all sandbox game. You can easily get 15+ hours out this game and its plot line will leave you wondering. However. This is also one of its problems: The ending left me scratching my head and looking to the internet for answers. The door has been left open for sequels.

Another problem I have found is that once it is over, it is over. I find little reason to play through again and unless they plan on releasing downloadable content (which they dont), there are few reasons to keep playing.

This game is one of the few I recommend spending $60 on, however, if you are strapped for cash, go for the rental.

Assassin's Creed is a great starter for the 360. The game is really fun in the beggining and incredibly simple to maneuver. The controls mainly consist of RT and A. If anyone had a hard time beating this game, then I ask you to consider your other talents. The game is too simple. But simple can be fun and this is a great example. Running on rooftops and throwing knives at guards was a blast. Beside all this the game has some issues.

The game is a little glitchy. I've had it freeze on me twice and some combat issues needed to be resolved. But this is nothing to really hoot and holler about. If there's anything to complain about it is the repeptive gameplay. The whole game, until the end, consists of the same excact tasks that you must complete. There wasn't really anything new to offer in each segment. Even the voiceovers seemed done by the same couple people, which really didn't seem professional. It seems as if they really just rushed the game and pushed the release forward to get some sales while the console was new. The only other thing that bugged me was the length of the game and the ending. I won't spoil the plot, but I really wanted more for my 50 bucks.

Bottom Line: Pick Creed up used. It's a lot of fun, but it doesn't have much replay value, and we'll all like the sequel much better I'm sure. If you're looking for the funnest adventure games for 360, pick this up, because nothing else better has really come out yet.

Assassin's Creed: best game ever or most repetitive game ever?

When it comes to Assassin's Creed there are two types of people. Those who think this is an amazing game with top notch graphics, original gameplay and a game of the year contender. Or there are those who think Assassin's Creed is boring and repetitive.

I fall slightly more towards the former, hence the 4 star review. In the wake of Bioshock, Halo 3 and Mass Effect anything released right now has to be a triple A title to even get noticed. Had this game come out last year it would have been a triple A title rather than an A-.

In Assassin's Creed you are a stealth assassin. If you enjoy games like Hitman Blood Money and Splinter Cell you'll love this game. You slowly and quietly move in for your kill. Instead of a sniper rifle you lock on and throw knives. Instead of fiber wire or a silenced pistol you have a hidden blade. If the crap hits the fan you have a long sword and a short sword to fend off guards.

People claim Assassin's Creed is boring and repetitive, because you sometimes have to move through the crowd slowly to remain undetected. Also for each target you have to gather info and save citizens. Personally I enjoyed these activities so I didn't think of it as a drag.

So if you're still undecided ask yourself if you either:
A) Need constant action and no story whatsoever.
B) Have the patience to walk slowly through a crowd of people and allow a plot to unfold.
If you lean more towards B then I highly recommend this game. If you lean more towards A then check out The Club. Run and Gun would have been a more accurate title.

There's also been talk around the internets that Assassin's Creed is Pro-Muslim and Anti-Christian. From the perspective of someone that's played the game to completion, that's simply untrue. As an assassin you kill both Christians and Muslims (even Atheists). In fact if anything this game is Anti-Organized-Religion. The game even says at the beginning that it is a work of fiction, just to keep people from getting upset. (Disclaimers never stop people from getting upset though) If you're easily offended steer clear of this title.

I had been following this game closely before it released and liked everything I saw. When it came out I bought it right away and I played this game nonstop. The only problem with this game is that it becomes repetitive. This wasn't a big problem to me as I enjoyed the whole experience, however, other gamers have found this extremely annoying. Recommending this game is tricky as it really all comes down to a person's gaming style. Personally, I liked the ability to play the game at my own pace, innovative control system, and the twist the story offer.

Your Next Target

Assassins Creed - Circa 2007

GOOD:
- The game has three huge (as well as very detailed) cities (Jerusalem, Acre, and Damascus) as well as the countryside (known simply as "Kingdom") that is equally as big as any of the cities. The games size rivals that of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (even if GTA:SA is bigger Assassins Creed is lot more detailed and intractable).
- A good story mixing elements of historical fiction and a Sci-Fi.
- Really impressive graphics and first-rate animations, that look just as good as games like Bioshock and Mass Effect.
- A great sound track that mixes music of the era during the clam points of the game and more modern type of music during the chase points of the game.

BAD:
- Collecting Flags (one hundred in every city and one hundred in the countryside) has no real point and only unlocks achievements.
- Most players and reviews complain about the relative nature of the Intel missions. Most of these missions are generally the same from city to city.

IF IT FITS YOUR TASTE:
- A Stealth game set in the year 1191 A.D. during the holy land crusades between King Richard and Sladine. You play as an Assassin of Hashshashin (who was a real life group of assassins of that time) charged with unsettling the powers that be in an attempt to bring peace to the holy land. To do this you must kill nine people who are using the crusades to control others and bring disorder to the land.
- The control is broken down into two areas of game play there is a passive action and an aggressive action to almost everything you can do in the game. For example you can lightly tap people to move out of your way while walking down crowed the street (hold the B button to do this) or shove people as you run down that same street (hold the R button and the B button to do this). This duality applies to all your actions and it becomes necessary because during the game you must be able to move freely between these two states (passive and aggressive) to run and then hide from people the out to get you as well as to sneak up on and kill your victims.
- Lot of what you will be doing is climbing and jumping from buildings this plays similar to the Prince of Persia games also made by ubisoft (the sands of time series). Although in this game the controls are more streamlined and user friendly as you can climb way more effectively as well as more realistically.
- Most of the game play itself is not so much assassinating people but gathering Intel on your targets, like ease dropping on conversations, pick pocketing people, and saving innocents from corrupt guards (who will repay you later by having others help in your endeavors) you can also scout out high areas to find hiding areas for later.
- Altair (the main character that you will play as) is an assassin and not a gladiator, while you can kill over 25 guards in a row (doing that unlocks an achievement) Altair is more like a spy or Ninja where his style is to stay hidden for a long as possible and not out right fight unless cornered. Now when cornered Altair can really destroy is enemies rather effetely with either a small combo (tap X once until you hear/see Altair's sword hit his opponents sword and quickly tap X again - this take lots of practice to get right) or counter move (tap X right before an opponent hit Altair with his sword), the over all effect is that only players who feel the most confident in their abilities will fight more then a few people at once. While most players should and will play more like a "true" assassin and not be seen as well as only fight when they must.
- After every major assassination you unlock new moves and weapons (like throwing knives and counter strike).
- While in the countryside (called "Kingdom") you get to ride horses, this aspect of game play is very reminiscent of the Nintendo 64 game The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of time.
- The story can be very confusing to some not familiar with the politics of this time era. I recommend seeing the movie Kingdom of Heaven, this helps explain the story a bit more and give more back story to the game (note this game takes place a year or so after that movie).

GAME ITS MOST ASSOCATED TOO:
- Metal Gear Solid (PS1)
- Splinter Cell: Double Agent (360/PS3/PC)
- Prince of Persia (Xbox/PS2)
- Crackdown (360)
- HitMan: Blood Money (360)

ADDITIONAL NOTES:
- There is a small secret about the games story that I will not give away, although I will say the 90% of your gameplay time will be spend on the facts I have already mentioned, and the other part of the game is only really story based with no real bearing on your gameplay.
- Altair is an Arabic word that means "The Flying One".
- The assassins that Altair is a part of were a real group of assassins during that era in fact the word assassins comes from the assassins group Hashshashin as it was a word used to describe there followers. All your main targets (nine in all) are based on real people who during that time period either died mysteriously or vanished.
- This game is also on the Sony Playstation 3 as well as the PC.
- In the limited collector's edition you will find an art book, a mini Altair figuring as well as a mini strategy guide, you will also find a mini comic about one of Altair's missions (drawn from the comic artist from Penny Arcade website) as well as a bonus DVD with the videos "The Making of Assassins Creed" documentary and it all comes in a tin case.
- There is talk from Ubisoft about sequels to this game set in other time eras.

Love the backstabbing

Well you should all know by now that the graphics are awesome, thats pretty much how I seen it advertised. Now the gameplay is indeed repetitious but I so enjoyed backstabbing....everyone.The game is easy enough but I gave up after awhile of looking for the flags and just just went onto the assassinations.I did most of the smaller quests...climbing view points and saving citizens.
All in all if you want to be entertained this is a game that will do it for you.

Assassin's Creed is Impossible to Forget

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 0 / 0

Assassin's Creed is a game about heart pounding speed, swords, and survival that is impossible to forget. Through advanced technology the player revisits experiences of their ancestors, trapped memories waiting to be discovered in our DNA. In this case, we uncover memories of Altair, a highly skilled assassin in the thick of the crusades in 1191 Israel. Unravel history by fulfilling your place in it and see to the removal of high ranking misguided leaders. Gather field intelligence, stake out your mark, and develop a plan, knowing that stealth is required to do what must be done. Once the hit is made though, your speed and your sword are the only true allies you have.
Altair finds himself constantly struggling with the reality of his task and it's lethal end, finding no solace in the confessions of his targets. He rides horseback through Israel to expansive and detailed cities like Damascus and Jerusalem, stopping to lend his sword to save a helpless citizen, or rescue a clergyman being mugged. Then it's up, time to explore and take in the massive cityscapes, smoothly leaping from roof to roof, and gracefully climbing every surface around.
The remarkable town structures look authentic with an added abundance of handholds and footholds on a massive scope. Altair will grab and climb everything, scaling the peak of a watchtower and the steeple of a towering church. The serene view is balanced by the deadly chaotic chase the will eventually come. With nerves rattling, the intense chase scenes are a thrilling mix of speed and swordplay. Being circled by eight guys with swords requires a quick hand and timed defense, making the blade to blade combat a perfect example of sword fighting finally done right. Stopping to fight pursuers can lead to an exciting realization though, that you are outnumbered twenty to one with more guys coming from the ally. Fight or flight, and now it's time to go, but one misstep can be your last, because a dead end while on the run is exactly that.
When gathering Intel on your target, sometimes the knowledge is not as helpful as it could be. For example, in Crackdown, paying attention to the info gets you to your target due to the knowledge of the most unguarded way, but I found Altair would have to do whatever the game intended, regardless of the preparation before the strike. Also I enjoy any opportunity to travel horseback, but the fighting is so well choreographed, that when on my trusty steed, I lack the efficiency with my blade that I came to expect.
The way Assassin's Creed keeps me thinking about it is a true indicator of it's memorable quality, and of it's need for a sequel. The cliffhanger ending opens potential doors and leaves an anticipation that no hype can equal. The aspect of running for your life at full tilt and climbing anything you see is like playing Tombraider with out ever stopping once to look around, sometimes leaping on faith. Going after your high ranking target is like Crackdown, but with swords set in deadly hands. Swords that do so many things, that you find impossible to forget.

Assassin's Creed for Xbox 360

This is truly a marvel of a game. I read a lot of mixed reviews about it, but finally decided to decide for myself. I was very glad I did! Yes, there are tasks you perform more than once, but not getting caught up in that will let you enjoy the historical and engrossing story. It is also a visual masterpiece, and you get very attached to your character. I can hardly wait for the next story in the series.

Innovative gameplay bogged down by horrendous story and AI

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 0 / 0

The Good first:

Graphically, the game is amazing, and what really makes the game stand out is the immense amount of environmental interaction there is. You can casually push people aside who get in your way, or you can roughly shove them. You can attack random people, which will cause a panic, and people react to what you do, such as remarking about you if you go dashing by, or calling you insane for bumping into walls or trying to climb up things or jump on top of random objects. Bump into an armed guard and they WILL chase you. Not only chase you, but chase you RELENTLESSLY! It's rather difficult to get them to stop, as you have to get out of their sight AND hide for a short time. Your character is agile enough to jump from rooftops with ease, hang on to edges, scramble up walls like a cat, and dive into stacks of hay to get out of sight.

The many options for combat and running around are impressive, as is the combat system when fighting people. It has some button mashing involved, but it's not mindless mashing. Your sword can even get red from blood, and horse riding is very realistic as well.

The Bad:

Oh wow... first, gameplay-wise, the AI is simply retarded. About the only time the guards are competent is when they're chasing you for causing havoc in the city. Once they surround you, or you're engaged in combat with them, they only bother to attack you one at a time. So far in my gaming, when engaging in fighting, I've never fought or killed men who didn't surround me like a pack of gangbangers coming at me one at a time. Even if I had no weapon but my fists, they wouldn't bother, and even if I were slaughtering them. It would seem the explanation being they're too cocky to attack you all at once when you're helpless, and they're too scared to attack you all at once when you're dominating. No middle ground.

Historically accurate it may claim to be, it fails massively in even the most menial, and yet telling of aspects: The main character, in a 12th Century Arab country, has an AMERICAN accent. You could nitpick with the whole "well they didn't speak english in Arab countries in the 12th Century" and it wouldn't matter a damn, because English DID exist at the time, but AMERICA did NOT. Not only is the American accent an annoying anachronism (which is inexcusable, because despite popular belief, Americans CAN accept protagonists with non-American accents) but has the stereotypical arrogant American swagger so hated by people of other countries, that not only makes him an unlikeable character, but gets him in trouble in the game, as within the first fifteen minutes of the game, he already breaks all three rules of the Assassin's Creed. Because he's "badass".

Of course, if you didn't know from the other reviews, this is all just the "memory" being replayed via some scientifically fragile theory of "genetic memory" in which a person's life experiences are recorded in their DNA, and passed on through generations. The main character is yet another American stereotype of the typical badass loner assassin who just wants to turn his life around by being a bartender. Not only is his dialogue so dull and listless as to make you not give a damn about him, but he is also very plain and ugly. Not really a valid complaint, but it's a physical manifestation of the person's mental state.

So awful was this game's story that I did not want to go on playing it after the first few missions. I simply could not tolerate it. I had to force myself into living the horrid story and AI.
