Simpsonic

The Simpsons: Road Rage was a clean cut, crazy take off of Crazy Taxi. The game came with lots of fun and kept the gamer in the Springfield mindset with the goofy artwork. The Simpsons: Hit and Run is a take off of the series Grand Theft Auto games. Like Road Rage, Hit and Run keeps the gamer entertained with many aspects of the game.

The storyline of Hit and Run takes a large positive leap from the lacking plot of Road Rage, keeping a "true to the Simpsons" feel. Starting with a simple number of shopping errands, the story evolves into an investigation and then a whacked out Simpsonic final level.

The gameplay and control of Hit and Run is much more realistic than the goofy Road Rage. The car control will remind you of many other greatly developed car games you have played and the on foot control will always encourage you to loot away from your vehicle. With realistic yet easy-to-master control, Hit and Run creates a very pleasing interface.

Alike Road Rage, Hit and Run will keep you laughing at the voice recordings of the Simpsons cast as you crash into people, fall off of ledges and run around on foot. The lines uttered from the characters in Hit and Run are very true to the Simpsons show which gains the game much credit.

One negative aspect of Hit and Run would have to be attributed to its replay value. The game is extremely fun the first time through and becomes a challenge as the levels progress, but once the missions have all been completed, there remains little left to do. The gamer can sweep through each level again collecting and destroying certain items they may have missed. This option does grant the game credit for replay value, but not much.

The Simpsons: Hit and Run is a title worthy to be of Simpsons merchandise. The storyline keeps the gamer entertained and eager to move on. The realistic car control creates a fun, easy to master environment and the "out of vehicle" interface makes the gamer want to loot on foot. Very well orchastrated voice acting creates a humorous and unique world which stays true to the Simpsons. The Simpsons: Hit and Run is a step up from The Simpsons: Road Rage. The game will keep both Simpson fans and car driving fanatics greatly pleased. Many complain that Hit and Run is too realistic and should have used "cell shading." This point is well taken, but could never be an option considering the creators and producers of The Simpsons have always desired their show to steer clear of a comical feel. The Simpsons: Hit and Run keeps the gamer entertained thoroughly and only rarely does said gamer realise he's playing a cartoon.

Almost Great

Overall, this is a pretty good game. Much better than I would have expected. The best part is that the game carries the typical Simpsons humor. I recommend that you spend some time just driving around in Springfield to check out a lot of things that you will miss during missions. It took me a while to spot a sign in front of a trailer park that said "14 days without a tornado" for instance. The game is full of this type of humor. If you are a Simpson fan, you will like this stuff, as long as you take the time to discover it...

The graphics are OK and true to the style of the TV series. In fact, it sometimes seems that the game looks better than the series. But of course, comic-style graphics do not really push the xbox. So I can't quite share the enthusiasm of one of my fellow reviewers.

The gameplay is pretty good for the most parts, although it does get repetitive. Overall, envision a simplified version of the Grand Theft Auto gameplay (although without shooting... violence is still there, but comic style). Unfortunately, some of the missions are hit and miss and penalize small mistakes way too much. Often, a little mistake can make you start over your mission, and often, that mistake may be caused by another car that just happens to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. I would have appreciated the level design to allow to make up for those mistakes in some way, rather than making the player start over. Also, a lot of levels can not really be finished at the first attempt, because they require that the player knows where to turn (among other things). This means that often, player skill is less important than the player's memory. It also means that one fails to complete levels without really being at fault.

This may sound like I do not like the game. I DO like the game. But it is a shame that small gameplay issues keep this game from being truly great..

Great Game that all ages can enjoy

Talk about a game that is perfect in just about every day! The Simpsons Hit and Run gives you puzzle games, racing, quests, and an amazingly fun plot!

Yes, the game is based on the famous Grand Theft Auto - Vice City. You can leap into cars, drive them all around HUGE maps, and explore the world in amazing detail. But that is only the beginning. The levels are based on the Simpsons show and every building, landmark and character you pass are immediately recognizable!

You get to play as a variety of characters - Bart, Homer, Lisa, Marge and even Apu. You get to earn various outfits for each person. There are the main quests, tons of subquests, and hidden secrets everywhere. The graphics are superb, and the sounds are PERFECT. The real writers from the show wrote the plots, the real actors supplied the voices. You feel like you're right in the middle of a multi-hour episode series and you'll find yourself laughing out loud at the lines!

Yes, you can 'run over' people, but it just knocks them off the road where they wave their fist at you. You're also penalized for doing that, so it's in your best interest to stay on the road and achieve the objectives set out for you. The whole plot ties in together in a great way, and you can always go back to the levels and replay them to aim for 100%.

Highly recommended! This is definitely a game we eagerly played through from start to finish, then kept playing to track down all those secrets.

My opinion as both a diehard Simpsons fan and an avid gamer

Being both a diehard Simpsons fan and an avid gamer, I am very confident in saying that this game finally breaks the mold of bad, generic Simpsons video games. The game is extremely fun. You run around as various characters in a handful of well-rendered 3D environments straight from the show. Like Simpsons Road Rage, the little remarks from the characters are hysterical. However, getting out and running around makes this game much more exciting than Road Rage. It is mission based, with plenty of minigames and bonus stuff everywhere to keep us Simpsons fanatics happy. In fact, my favorite feature in the game is the little things here and there that only diehard fans would recognize. Like Frostillicus' frozen body as an attraction at the Kwik-E-Mart, or the tiki god that Homer ran the oven gas to that sits in the backyard of the Simpsons home. As well as Bart's treehouse, and the Flanders' "Shelterini" in their backyard.

I have been an extreme Simpsons fanatic for quite some time. I have all of the toys, I have seen every episode at least three times over, and I have played all of the games. I think it is safe to say this is definitely the best Simpsons game yet. Yes, the old 90s arcade game ruled, but this 3D game is on a different level. I would compare it a little to Grand Theft Auto III, without the violence, and with much better graphics. However I think it's more like the Super Mario World launch game that came out when Gamecube hit the market. It's very similiar, with the 3D worlds, free roaming capabilities, missions you get by talking to people, and of course collecting coins.

A+!

Best Simpsons game ever, but that isn't saying much!

The Simpsons are at it again. Simpsons: Hit and Run is clearly the best Simpsons game to date, but still does not do the series justice. While the first three levels of the game will keep the player involved and still a fan of The Simpsons. However this game is incredibly easy and repetitive. With only three levels that are in constant rotation you will find yourself bored with the one-liners that are bound to be repeated to the point of frustration. With gameplay elements stolen from Grand Theft Auto and Midtown Madness, you will be very comfortable with the pick- up and play controls. With a percent system rating how much you have found inside each level, you will find yourself driving aimlessly looking for a final card or special event just to get that 100 percent. With a sub-par plot and a cast of characters that you don't get to pick who you want to play as, this is sadly the best Simpsons' game to date, and any fan will pick it up regardless of what any review says.

Homer has done it again!

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 7 / 8

Homer, Lisa, Marge, Bart, and the rest of the Simpsons gang has done it again! They have successfully created another game that is extremely fun, and still safe for some of the younger crowd. Although the game uses a little crude language, it is overall safe for the whole family. Many parents do not want to buy the game because they believe it is too violent. I would like to rejoicefully say, It's not that violent! Nobody dies, there is no blood, the worst you can do is kick someone they fall over, or your car explodes, but your still perfectly fine. This game gives the Simpsons an extra boost.

GOOD THINGS!
=============
-The game is very good for the younger audience.
-The game is very close to the actual TV show, actual voices, characters look the exact same, and they act the same.
-The game is very challenging, definitely not a game that you can complete in a few hours.
-The game has many side things, so you aren't done when you finish the levels, you can go back and do the gambling games, racing games, and even to some of the missions over again!
-The game has many cars and different outfits for the gang.

BAD THINGS
===========
-A simple mistake will most likely cause you to fail the mission
-You can usually lose a mission because you run into a car that was in the wrong spot at the wrong time
-The game's story line is a little bit bazaar, sometimes hard to follow
-The game is quite challenging for most people that dont take the time to look around and see what is around them.
-The maps are very large and can get you lost easily, even without knowing it, so that you could lose a mission for going into the wrong lane or tunnel.
-The game is hard to get your hands on!

Overall I give this game a 5 out of 5 because it is very fun, a good game for the entire family, and is a game that you won't be finished with in a week.

One Word: Addictive

This is a great game for all ages. It is challenging, making it very addictive. I couldn't put this game down since I got it! However, I did get sick of it, and the levels can be very repetitive. The 3-D effects are average as well.

Compared to Road Rage--make sure you read my review on that game too, by the way--this game is gold. Unlike Road Rage (another Simpsons game), this game is more challenging, and you are capable of a wider range of places to drive to. Also, you don't only get to drive, but you can walk around Springfield as well! And if that's not enough for you, there are over 30 different vehicles to choose from by the end of the game.

In summary, this is a very addictive game that can be challenging at times, however you get bored of it after a while. The 3-D effects are average, but you are able to drive and walk through the whole city of Springfield. You don't really have to be a Simpsons fan to own this game, however the game is much more fun if you are one. This video game isn't a must-have, but it is entertaining.

BEWARE: NOT a Multiplayer Game!!

This game is NOT truely a multiplayer game as advertised on the box of 1-4 players. You go through several mission levels before earning a bonus game that is a car race. From the start of this game, it is only 1 player.

If you are looking for a family game to play together, do NOT waste your money on this game!

Simpsons GTA Style

Simpsons Hit+Run for the Xbox is an adventure game with a lot of racing. If your kids have been begging you to buy them Grand Theft Auto, but you refused to do so becuase of the mature themes and violence, Simpsons Hit+Run is a good substitute. You can drive around Springfield, stealing cars, breaking objects, like phone booths, mailboxes, benches and lamp posts. When you steal a car, you don't actually see your character pulling someone out of their car, instead you see the screen go black then suddenly you are in it and can drive it. Everything is done in a sorta cartoony fashion and the violence is almost zero. You can actually kick people to the ground, but it looks silly and fake. When you destroy objects and kick people around it begins to fill a law meter. when the law meter is full the cops will come after you, arrest you and take away a bit of your money as punishment. So there is punishment for doing bad things, but again the violence is cartoony and fake. You'll also be able to enter most of the buildings and explore inside them trying to find gold coins, game cards and gags. Everything from the Simpsons cartoon is in the game. I really loved the graphics which were colorful and well drawn like the cartoon, but it looks even better because everything is in 3-D! There lots of secret areas, boxes with gold coins, cartoon gags and best of all they used the same voice actors from the t.v. show! So if you liked the show you will enjoy the humor in the game. Each level has you controlling different characters. The first level has you controlling "Homer", level two is "Bart", level three is "Lisa" and there's more. You can walk around and explore on your own or you can talk to any of the characters scattered around town who'll give you a mission to play. Most of the missions involve racing from one check point to the next others have you finding objects or destroying things. When you complete a mission, you'll be awarded gold coins which then can be used to buy new: cars and clothing for your character. I love the fact that the game is FREE-FORM (go anywhere, do anything), the levels are fun to explore and I loved the fact that they included so much stuff from the show including the voice-acting, but too many levels are similar, there is too much racing with your car! I wished they added more mini-games and better interactions with people and more vehicles. I wanted to ride boats and fly copters, but it does not let you do that. However, I think kids will love this game and adult fans will also enjoy it.

Pros:
+FREE-FORM gameplay
+excellent graphics
+excellent level design
+excellent music
+excellent cars
+excellent voice acting
+looks like the tv show
+good sense of humor

Cons:
-too much racing in cars
-not enough mini-games
-you cannot swim
-you cannot ride boats
-you cannot fly copters or blimps
-little character interactions
-needs more in-door levels
-needs more character abilities

Addictive, Funny and With Great 3-D Graphics!

My partner and I treated ourselves to an X-Box last Christmas, and, being Simpsons fans and seeing the cool-looking commercials for this game, bought THE SIMPSONS: HIT AND RUN as one of our first games. So far, this is still the only X-Box game I've played. I just went back to playing it after an absence of three months, and I couldn't put it down for SEVEN hours! I love the missions, plus the bonus races that win you extra vehicles for your use. I love running over things for coins, which you can collect and use to buy vehicles, wardrobe changes, etc! Of course, there is plenty of exploring of sights, sounds and other numerous gags within each level that adds to your experience. I love the alternating of characters you play. You start out as Homer in the first level, switch to Bart in the second and then to Lisa in the third. (That's where I'm up to as of this writing!) I love the irreverently funny tone of the game, just like the TV show. Let's face it, this game is *a lot* of fun!

The first missions are not easy, and they get more difficult as you go along. Right now, I'm stuck on the one where you have to knock 15 slabs of 'flatmeat' (roadkill) out of Cletus' pickup truck by repeatedly slamming into him. It may not sound hard, but you have to do all this within a two-minute period! The graphics on X-Box are extremely sharp, and it is an absolute joy to play. Eventually, I will get around to playing ENTER THE MATRIX, THE NEED FOR SPEED UNDERGROUND, PROJECT GOTHAM, STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS and THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING which we also have. No question about it, THE SIMPSONS HIT AND RUN gives you a lot of gameplaying hours, and is even more fun than watching the TV show! [Warning: May Result in Calloused Thumbs!]

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
