Good game to keep the kids interest

This is one of the best video games for keeping the kids occupied on a rainy day. It follows the TV show pretty close, but has more of an adult edge to it. The kids seem to stick with it longer (not sure if that's a good thing) than most of their other video games. Looks like fun and I may just give it a try sometime.

I'd rather not mention where this game genre is.

HaR (Hit and Run) has many claims to be Grand Theft Auto, Road Rage, and some other games all into one. While HaR has a GTA feel, it is not like GTA because you can't kill people (hitting them with vehicles or kicking them has them saying something stupid and scream at you), there is no killing cops luckily, etc.

Anyway, the lot of the popular Simpson characters are on this one (sadly, you cannot run into Martin Price because he is not in this game sadly). Instead of mentioning them I should mention that each character will say something hilarious when something happens (car crash, pedestrian hit, getting out of the car, running). My personal favorite is running because a character will complain about running too hard (Homer says "Must... Never...Run...Again....", made me crack up).

I will agree that missions get repeated but it is in different situations which makes it look like a different mission (otherwise, HaR would loose its gameplay which is never good). Also, your character can buy three clothes unique and based on the show (yes, you can play Bart's twin brother Hugo in this one). While Lisa's "Floreda" was something hysterical.

The cars are pretty fun to drive too. Although some are good with crashes but may loose its speed while the faster ones are usually weak. My favorite is Mr. Burns Limo (with Mr. Smithers driving occasionally :creepy:). Even some cars which you have not seen in the show or even exist in an episode will be there (I doubt there is such a thing as Zombie Car or Hover bike).

So, parents, here is the score:

1. Violence not realistic and cartoony. No gore or blood however but the bonus video which has an Itchy and Scratchy clip could be a bit eerie).

2. Homer's lines does contain some mild language. But people also forget that the other characters do have their swearing moments.

3. There is a very silly occult moment on one level, hopefully reminding you of those Treehouse of Horror episodes.

So, if you don't like the Simpsons, don't bother with this one but any vivid Simpson fan will enjoy this.

Great Game For A Simpsons Fan

In my opinion, this is a very good game, especially considering the fact that I am an avid admirer of the Simpsons. This game is among the best Simpsons games ever made. It is like a combination of action, adventure, and sports all in one. Adventure through all of the various parts of Springfield in this Grand Theft Auto-like game. This game is packed with all sorts of little Simpsons humor and you will learn a lot about the world of the Simpsons. You pick up trivia from every corner of this game to make sure that there is not a boring moment. There are many different kinds of things to do in this game. What you do will reflect your personality. If you love cars, you will journey through the game and try to collect all sorts of vehicles, trying to find the one that feels perfect just for you. An interesting part of this game is that all of the cars come with their very own rating. There are ratings for speed, acceleration, toughness, and handling. Choose the car that best fits your style of play. Journey on the safe side of the law and pick a car that you can go slowly in with nice handling to avoid accidents and run-ins with the police or take a ride on the wild side and get the fastest car possible to cause carnage all over Springfield. For those video-gamers who love a good challenge, this game has all sorts of tough bonus missions making you sit there and try your hardest to complete them. The scenarios in this range from peaceful suburban neighborhoods with law abiding citizens, (with the exception of the player) to jam-packed cities breeming with all sorts of colorful characters and vehicles. Each level features a different character (some levels make you play with a previous character) with a total of 7 levels in the whole game (don't let the small number of levels fool you, they take a long time to complete). There are all sorts of little things you have to do to complete each level 100%, but you can get through each level by completing just the primary missions of the level. To 100% all of the levels, you need to destroy all sorts of things, find hidden objects, and complete all sorts of bonus missions. The missions in this game feature skills that you need steady hands for. These include chasing, tailing, destroying, and rushing along. This game boasts a vast amount of mystery when it comes to the plot. It is exceedingly eccentric, but will still keep you wanting more. The entire game is shrouded in mystery. The last level features a creepy surprise that you will have to play the game to find out. Overall this is a very good game that I am sure all Simpsons fans(and most others) will greatly enjoy.

Just fun, and not too difficult

I love racing games, but think they can get too serious. I love destroying things, but if the enemy shoots back too much, I get stressed. I love exploring and finding things, but if they puzzles get too hard, I might as well be working. Simpsons, Hit and Run, strikes the balance in all categories. It is just all around fun, the characters from the series are all there, and it is easy enough that X-Box novices can enjoy it, too. I got the game yesterday and played for hours with a friend who doesn't own a console. I recommend this game!

A great substitute for GTA, especially for younger kids.

This game is definetly the best Simpsons game ever. I personally enjoyed the free-roam style, and since I'm not allowed to own GTA, this is a great alternative. Theres not much violence to speak of, the only thing that may be considered violent is when you run over pedestrians. Nothing happens to them, they just yell at you and get back up. You can also get out on foot and attack the peds with kicks, but again nothing happens. There is plenty of interactivity in the game, for example, when you go into the Kwik-e-mart, you can make the slushee machine blow up and squirt slushie all over the place. The driving controls aren't that bad, but they could be better. The missions aren't too repetitive, but they are sort of thin, and its easy to see the same concept was used for many of the missions. One mission has you collecting loose monkeys that are spread throughout the city (which hardly seems redone anywhere else in the game) The game does best with the different areas split up, because it would take far too long to get from one end of Springfield to the other. I've played GTA before, and its probably the easiest game to get lost in. Simpsons Hit and Run is a good alternative as a non-violent Grand Theft Auto, the grpahics are pretty good, the voices are straight from the actors of the show, the music is good. It even has a dialogue control, so if you are offended by minor swearing, you can turn off voices. (Just remember to trun them back on to watch the awesome cut scenes)

Same old Simpsons but wacky new game!

This game is fun because you get to play as all the Simpsons in their crazy wacky world. This game is also full of Simpsons humor with lame jokes and gags. On this game you get to drive around in multible cars and compete in races and missions. Also the cheats for this game are super fun you can make your car invincible or faster or when you honk your horn your car jumps 50 feet in the air!

For any Simpsons Lover. Period.

I do so love this game! Ironically, I hate Grand Theft Auto with all my guts, so to love a rip-off of it...

But never mind that. I have gotta say, playing this game is just like watching the episodes. All these jokes, the locations, characters, and obscure refrences like the Book Burning Van are here, and if you take time to drive around in between missions, you'll find plenty of hillarious stuff. One of my favorites is a Krusty Burger sign that says "Try our new popcorn shrimpy things". The cast are all voiced by the real cast from the show, which really adds to the game. Especially when Homer hits enough objects and starts singing "I am evil Ho-MER! I am evil Ho-MER!". I swear I never get tired of that.
And the enviroments are HUGE. It must have taken months, perhaps years, to get the game this highly detailed. It all looks like the show, except 3-D. The first level, I probably would have gotten lost if there hadn't been the convinent arrows pointing you to the next mission. Later on, I realized it's basicaly a big loop, but it's long enough that it takes on the appearance of a real city. One small gripe is that you start playing the same levels at Level 4, but if they made custom enviroments for those levels, it would have probably take another two years to make the game. So I'm content.

The story is pretty zany and great, and I'm only at Level 5 of 7(I've had it for a week). It just gets better and better as you play. Now, you could just zip through the missions and be done, but I like to procede at a more exploring pace, so I'm still working my way through the game. Mysterious happenings are occuring all over Springfield, and the Simpsons get wrapped up in them when Homer investigates and Bart is abducted. Even though you're running around, doing all these pointless missions, the story connects them together well. There's some variety to the missions, but basically, you'll start doing the same things over again.

Overall, if you're at all a fan of The Simpsons, I highly recommend. It's so true to the show, you'll swear you're watching another episode of it.

This is the second Simpsons video game I bought. This one is alot more involved with the charcters and the story line than the other, but it isn't the easiet game to complete. I have been stuck on the same area for a month, to a point where I had to walk away from the game and try something else. if you love the Simpsons, you will love this game.

Simpsons GTA Style

Simpsons Hit+Run for the Xbox is an adventure game with a lot of racing. If your kids have been begging you to buy them Grand Theft Auto, but you refused to do so becuase of the mature themes and violence, Simpsons Hit+Run is a good substitute. You can drive around Springfield, stealing cars, breaking objects, like phone booths, mailboxes, benches and lamp posts. When you steal a car, you don't actually see your character pulling someone out of their car, instead you see the screen go black then suddenly you are in it and can drive it. Everything is done in a sorta cartoony fashion and the violence is almost zero. You can actually kick people to the ground, but it looks silly and fake. When you destroy objects and kick people around it begins to fill a law meter. when the law meter is full the cops will come after you, arrest you and take away a bit of your money as punishment. So there is punishment for doing bad things, but again the violence is cartoony and fake. You'll also be able to enter most of the buildings and explore inside them trying to find gold coins, game cards and gags. Everything from the Simpsons cartoon is in the game. I really loved the graphics which were colorful and well drawn like the cartoon, but it looks even better because everything is in 3-D! There lots of secret areas, boxes with gold coins, cartoon gags and best of all they used the same voice actors from the t.v. show! So if you liked the show you will enjoy the humor in the game. Each level has you controlling different characters. The first level has you controlling "Homer", level two is "Bart", level three is "Lisa" and there's more. You can walk around and explore on your own or you can talk to any of the characters scattered around town who'll give you a mission to play. Most of the missions involve racing from one check point to the next others have you finding objects or destroying things. When you complete a mission, you'll be awarded gold coins which then can be used to buy new: cars and clothing for your character. I love the fact that the game is FREE-FORM (go anywhere, do anything), the levels are fun to explore and I loved the fact that they included so much stuff from the show including the voice-acting, but too many levels are similar, there is too much racing with your car! I wished they added more mini-games and better interactions with people and more vehicles. I wanted to ride boats and fly copters, but it does not let you do that. However, I think kids will love this game and adult fans will also enjoy it.

Pros:
+FREE-FORM gameplay
+excellent graphics
+excellent level design
+excellent music
+excellent cars
+excellent voice acting
+looks like the tv show
+good sense of humor

Cons:
-too much racing in cars
-not enough mini-games
-you cannot swim
-you cannot ride boats
-you cannot fly copters or blimps
-little character interactions
-needs more in-door levels
-needs more character abilities
