Great Game

Finally, a decent simpsons game. All these terrible games over the years, and they finally make a good one. This game is a pretty good game. I hate the voices though, becuase of the lack of different sayings. The controls are simple, and the gameplay is good. Overall: 7.7/10

This game is fun because you get to play as all the Simpsons in their crazy wacky world. This game is also full of Simpsons humor with lame jokes and gags. On this game you get to drive around in multible cars and compete in races and missions. Also the cheats for this game are super fun you can make your car invincible or faster or when you honk your horn your car jumps 50 feet in the air!

Great Game For A Simpsons Fan

In my opinion, this is a very good game, especially considering the fact that I am an avid admirer of the Simpsons. This game is among the best Simpsons games ever made. It is like a combination of action, adventure, and sports all in one. Adventure through all of the various parts of Springfield in this Grand Theft Auto-like game. This game is packed with all sorts of little Simpsons humor and you will learn a lot about the world of the Simpsons. You pick up trivia from every corner of this game to make sure that there is not a boring moment. There are many different kinds of things to do in this game. What you do will reflect your personality. If you love cars, you will journey through the game and try to collect all sorts of vehicles, trying to find the one that feels perfect just for you. An interesting part of this game is that all of the cars come with their very own rating. There are ratings for speed, acceleration, toughness, and handling. Choose the car that best fits your style of play. Journey on the safe side of the law and pick a car that you can go slowly in with nice handling to avoid accidents and run-ins with the police or take a ride on the wild side and get the fastest car possible to cause carnage all over Springfield. For those video-gamers who love a good challenge, this game has all sorts of tough bonus missions making you sit there and try your hardest to complete them. The scenarios in this range from peaceful suburban neighborhoods with law abiding citizens, (with the exception of the player) to jam-packed cities breeming with all sorts of colorful characters and vehicles. Each level features a different character (some levels make you play with a previous character) with a total of 7 levels in the whole game (don't let the small number of levels fool you, they take a long time to complete). There are all sorts of little things you have to do to complete each level 100%, but you can get through each level by completing just the primary missions of the level. To 100% all of the levels, you need to destroy all sorts of things, find hidden objects, and complete all sorts of bonus missions. The missions in this game feature skills that you need steady hands for. These include chasing, tailing, destroying, and rushing along. This game boasts a vast amount of mystery when it comes to the plot. It is exceedingly eccentric, but will still keep you wanting more. The entire game is shrouded in mystery. The last level features a creepy surprise that you will have to play the game to find out. Overall this is a very good game that I am sure all Simpsons fans(and most others) will greatly enjoy.

Worst camera control system ever.

Everyone touts this as the best Simpsons game ever, and it is.. But it's far from perfect. It is marketed as a driving game, but there is a great deal of time spent on foot. This was a pleasent surprise, until I had been on foot for a few minutes. The camera SUCKS. Did anyone play this game before releasing it? The camera is slow and sluggish, and doesn't keep up with the player. The cameraman appears to be drunk. When running up stairs or even a gentle slope, you are forced to look at the ground behind you.. The player's head isn't even visible. Fat lot of good that does you in an intense situation. You can't look up or down. What year was this game released? The camera is semi-fixed, and you can only control it in certain areas, although it's always moving. For example, you're in a tight spot where you are jumping from moving platform to moving platform. Well, you can't face the camera the way you need to jump because it's stuck on the wall. You're likely to be staring at part of the back of Homer's head, the rest of the screen filled with wall. Then in mid-air, after you've taken a breathless jump into the unknown, the camera decides to jump to the other side of the room. Ok, this would be fine, except that your players control isn't absolute: up isn't always forward. If you're looking at the right side of your charactor, right is forward. So, you can see why random camera movements are ANNOYING AS HELL! The camera moves at the most inopportune times, changing your forward thrust to a grinding halt, sending you wherever it pleases. If you fall off of something, the game will face you in any direction it arbitrarily chooses, so there is NO consistency over dierection. Time to climb up that ridiculously tall set of platforms to take another random leap. I've actually ran down the street just holding the joystick up as a test. I ran in 3 different directions, without changing my control at all. Oh, did I mention that all charactors are incapable of doing a 180? If you are running down the street, and pull back on your controller, the character must make a wide, sweeping circular turn.. like there's an imaginary magnetic sphere attached to its side, which it cannot run through. What the heck is going on here? There was so much effort put into the storyline, writing, graphics, charactors, physics, and hilarious little details of this game.. Why not hire an outside consultant who plays video games once in a while to iron out inefficient control and outright BUGS!? I play this game endlessly for all of the other aspects listed above, but the camera control makes this game play like an experimental project in an intermediate programming class. Yes, you've outdone yourselves on content, but you are WAY BEHIND IN GAMEPLAY! It reminds me of that crappy engine in Silent Hill and Fatal Frame that causes you to bump into things that are 5 feet away from you - a ridiculous oversight, possibly accepted due to deadlines and laziness, which has destroyed an otherwise brilliant game. Still, the rest of the stuff people are raving about is true. It's very clever, and I've laughed out loud many times. There are many more lines in this game than in Road Rage, so you don't get tired of hearing the same thing a thousand times.. maybe the next game will be the complete package. Games should be frustrating because they're challenging, not flawed. These blatant errors take this game down 2 stars. It's groundbreaking in its physics, graphics, characters and writing, but completely unacceptable in terms of camera control.

multiplayer is a lie

the rest of the game seems fun so far, but the multiplayer is a joke - you can't play the regular game multiplayer, only certain subgames that need to be unlocked by regular gameplay... so, don't buy it for the multiplayer.

Grand Theft Auto. Meet the Simpson Family.

Overall, this game is actually pretty good. Aside from the few gameplay issues and graphical glitches here and there, the game is great. The controls are responsive (although sometimes a bit too touchy) and the loading screen is good. You get to collect coins and cards along the way to obtain new gear for your character. I love the ninja costume for Bart! Typical Simpsons humor is laden throughout the interactive city. Before I forget, there are even "unique" jumps that is prominent in Grand Theft Auto. The only major con that I have noticed is that the storyline is weak, and I wish Vivendi would develop it more. Overall, this may be the beginning of a good franchise for Vivendi in the future. If you come in expecting Grand Theft Auto, you will be disappointed, but if you think Grand Theft Simpson, then you will be a happy clam.

Could be much better.....

When I first started playing this game, it seemed great because I was finally able to walk through the Simpsons universe freely. But as I got farther into the game, the missions became so repetitive that it became extremely boring. Every mission has about 5 other missions in the game that are nearly identical. And if you are expecting it to be a Simpson's version Grand Theft Auto, you are going to be disappointed. I would recommend this game to rent, but not to buy, just for the experience of walking and driving around Springfield.

Beautiful Recreation of the Simpsons but terrible game play

The game reproduces the world of the Simpsons faithful down to the humor and the voices. Unfortunately, as a video game it's more a test of memory than a game of challenge and skill. The more times you go through the maze the quicker you get. You can drive mostly any vehicle that comes along but it's best to stick with the assorted lots offered in the menu. I wanted badly to like this game since I love the Simpsons and got this game for the kids. They stopped playing it after running into so many false level-endings. That's where I took over fresh from playing "Need for Speed: Underground". You become various characters driving around Springfield to find clues to a mystery regarding black vans and crop circles. The automatic camera controls are by far the worst. It jumps erratically from chase view to overhead view if you get stuck in a tight corner or running on foot. This greatly interferes with game play. The physic's gravity is terrible. I had my car hanging on the pier edge forever unable to decide whether to fall or not. The graphics is 3-D cartoon. At times, I find myself manually circling the camera several times to see where items are positioned and where the ledges are "really" located to jump on. The vehicle jump cam is also a big problem. It's set to "On" by default but can be turned "Off" in Options. It's no good if I can't see where you're going to land after doing a ramp jump. The task themselves are simple but after getting to a certain location or collecting such and such an items under a time limit, the player is then immediately tasked to go to another location before time runs out to start yet another part of the level. There can be 2-4 parts to these levels and failure at anytime along the way results in the player starting the level all over. There is no way for anybody other than the programmers themselves to get through all the levels the first time. The game is unforgiving making a wrong turn or get stuck by a car will mean doing the level over. There's no room for error. When tasked to go to a location, you have to rely heavily on the overlay map and green arrows on the road to know where to go while dodging pedestrians and vehicles that to me seem to have a death wish to jump into the path of your vehicle. Hitting the items gains you coins. Another problem is that some items you can crash through and some items are solid like the Rock of Gibraltar. There's no way to tell the difference without trial and error. If too many items are hit in a certain amount of time then the police comes in hot pursuit of you. If you're caught; you pay a 50 coin fine. Finally, the game cheats the player by running over your character trying to get to your vehicle, placing your vehicle way down the street or stopping the game with time still left on the clock. I'm sure that the creators licensed the game to the video game developers and may have even wrote a basic story plot but as the video game part it's totally weak. By changing the XBOX's clock to holiday dates like Christmas, Springfield will change it's appearance to match the holiday moods. This is true of Halloween, Thanksgiving, etc. It's good enough just to drive around Springfield and forget the missions.

Not bad but not great

This is the second Simpsons video game I bought. This one is alot more involved with the charcters and the story line than the other, but it isn't the easiet game to complete. I have been stuck on the same area for a month, to a point where I had to walk away from the game and try something else. if you love the Simpsons, you will love this game.
