One of the most fun games I've played in a while. Fun story line, and gameplay. Also a great game for children. Player dosn't steal the car, just gets a ride!

DOH-rrific Game!

My husband and I are in our 30's and broke down this year.. we purchased the X-Box. We don't have the time to play long term games, but really enjoy this.. especially since we're big Simpson's fans. When we have to stop playing and get back to work.. our 4 year old enjoys just driving the different cars around town.. crashing them and watching them burst into flames. He has even figured out how to get cars from the phone booth. Also his first game :) I would have to give it 2 thumbs up for someone looking for an easy 'family' game for all ages.

Good game

All in all the game is a lot of fun. Yes, some of the catch phrases the characters utter and the tasks you are sent to do get redundant at times, but in general we've had a good time playing the game. When not on a timed mission you can explore Springfield to your heart's content and you can see a lot of thought went into the computer generated world you are in. The graphics and sound are very good, the gameplay is pretty good, and there is a lot of humor throughout. The one drawback I've experienced is the language used in cases where your Simpson character interacts with another AI character or object. In cases where your character hits another character or object repeatedly with a car or whatever, at some point your character will shout "get out of the way jerk-ass" (or dumb-ass - can't remember which) or "out of the way asphalt-eater". Its at a frequency at which my child is now chiming in and repeating the comment at times out of frustration while playing the game. Other than that, we've found the game to be a lot of fun.

For any Simpsons Lover. Period.

I do so love this game! Ironically, I hate Grand Theft Auto with all my guts, so to love a rip-off of it...

But never mind that. I have gotta say, playing this game is just like watching the episodes. All these jokes, the locations, characters, and obscure refrences like the Book Burning Van are here, and if you take time to drive around in between missions, you'll find plenty of hillarious stuff. One of my favorites is a Krusty Burger sign that says "Try our new popcorn shrimpy things". The cast are all voiced by the real cast from the show, which really adds to the game. Especially when Homer hits enough objects and starts singing "I am evil Ho-MER! I am evil Ho-MER!". I swear I never get tired of that.
And the enviroments are HUGE. It must have taken months, perhaps years, to get the game this highly detailed. It all looks like the show, except 3-D. The first level, I probably would have gotten lost if there hadn't been the convinent arrows pointing you to the next mission. Later on, I realized it's basicaly a big loop, but it's long enough that it takes on the appearance of a real city. One small gripe is that you start playing the same levels at Level 4, but if they made custom enviroments for those levels, it would have probably take another two years to make the game. So I'm content.

The story is pretty zany and great, and I'm only at Level 5 of 7(I've had it for a week). It just gets better and better as you play. Now, you could just zip through the missions and be done, but I like to procede at a more exploring pace, so I'm still working my way through the game. Mysterious happenings are occuring all over Springfield, and the Simpsons get wrapped up in them when Homer investigates and Bart is abducted. Even though you're running around, doing all these pointless missions, the story connects them together well. There's some variety to the missions, but basically, you'll start doing the same things over again.

Overall, if you're at all a fan of The Simpsons, I highly recommend. It's so true to the show, you'll swear you're watching another episode of it.

A great substitute for GTA, especially for younger kids.

This game is definetly the best Simpsons game ever. I personally enjoyed the free-roam style, and since I'm not allowed to own GTA, this is a great alternative. Theres not much violence to speak of, the only thing that may be considered violent is when you run over pedestrians. Nothing happens to them, they just yell at you and get back up. You can also get out on foot and attack the peds with kicks, but again nothing happens. There is plenty of interactivity in the game, for example, when you go into the Kwik-e-mart, you can make the slushee machine blow up and squirt slushie all over the place. The driving controls aren't that bad, but they could be better. The missions aren't too repetitive, but they are sort of thin, and its easy to see the same concept was used for many of the missions. One mission has you collecting loose monkeys that are spread throughout the city (which hardly seems redone anywhere else in the game) The game does best with the different areas split up, because it would take far too long to get from one end of Springfield to the other. I've played GTA before, and its probably the easiest game to get lost in. Simpsons Hit and Run is a good alternative as a non-violent Grand Theft Auto, the grpahics are pretty good, the voices are straight from the actors of the show, the music is good. It even has a dialogue control, so if you are offended by minor swearing, you can turn off voices. (Just remember to trun them back on to watch the awesome cut scenes)

Just fun, and not too difficult

I love racing games, but think they can get too serious. I love destroying things, but if the enemy shoots back too much, I get stressed. I love exploring and finding things, but if they puzzles get too hard, I might as well be working. Simpsons, Hit and Run, strikes the balance in all categories. It is just all around fun, the characters from the series are all there, and it is easy enough that X-Box novices can enjoy it, too. I got the game yesterday and played for hours with a friend who doesn't own a console. I recommend this game!

I'd rather not mention where this game genre is.

HaR (Hit and Run) has many claims to be Grand Theft Auto, Road Rage, and some other games all into one. While HaR has a GTA feel, it is not like GTA because you can't kill people (hitting them with vehicles or kicking them has them saying something stupid and scream at you), there is no killing cops luckily, etc.

Anyway, the lot of the popular Simpson characters are on this one (sadly, you cannot run into Martin Price because he is not in this game sadly). Instead of mentioning them I should mention that each character will say something hilarious when something happens (car crash, pedestrian hit, getting out of the car, running). My personal favorite is running because a character will complain about running too hard (Homer says "Must... Never...Run...Again....", made me crack up).

I will agree that missions get repeated but it is in different situations which makes it look like a different mission (otherwise, HaR would loose its gameplay which is never good). Also, your character can buy three clothes unique and based on the show (yes, you can play Bart's twin brother Hugo in this one). While Lisa's "Floreda" was something hysterical.

The cars are pretty fun to drive too. Although some are good with crashes but may loose its speed while the faster ones are usually weak. My favorite is Mr. Burns Limo (with Mr. Smithers driving occasionally :creepy:). Even some cars which you have not seen in the show or even exist in an episode will be there (I doubt there is such a thing as Zombie Car or Hover bike).

So, parents, here is the score:

1. Violence not realistic and cartoony. No gore or blood however but the bonus video which has an Itchy and Scratchy clip could be a bit eerie).

2. Homer's lines does contain some mild language. But people also forget that the other characters do have their swearing moments.

3. There is a very silly occult moment on one level, hopefully reminding you of those Treehouse of Horror episodes.

So, if you don't like the Simpsons, don't bother with this one but any vivid Simpson fan will enjoy this.

Good game to keep the kids interest

This is one of the best video games for keeping the kids occupied on a rainy day. It follows the TV show pretty close, but has more of an adult edge to it. The kids seem to stick with it longer (not sure if that's a good thing) than most of their other video games. Looks like fun and I may just give it a try sometime.

need a great gift for your child? this would be a good one

this game would be an awsome gift and game for any child of any age. there is NO (...) GRAPHICS that most games have and you have the freedom to choose who you want to drive and what car you want. this is a great game for any one, young and older, who likes car games.

Doh! Doh! Doh! oooo.....DONUT!

I must say this is the best simpson's game ever! Of course it copies GTAIII but the game is very fun to play and I got many laughs out of it. Springfield is actually modeled quite well and the graphics are very nice looking! The game gets 5 stars because it is the best simpson's game, but serious gamers won't take the game serious, it does derserve many improvements to satisfy the hard-core simpson's fans. But the game satisfied me enough for now but I am still waiting for a EXCELLENT simpson's game to come out hopefully within the next ten years!
