Immediately after I beat this great game I continued playing from the beginning in challenge mode. I didn't even take a break until now to write this review. That's how addicting it is. Insomniac Games deserves heaps of praise for what they've accomplished here. I wouldn't go as far as saying it's on the level of Pixar, but it's definitely the best looking animated game I've ever seen. The whole production is top notch and it's obvious Insomniac spared no expense and went all out. So much stuff is happening on screen at the same time: enemies, explosions, spaceships flying, other characters helping you fight, all beautifully animated and without any slowdown whatsoever. This game shows off the power of the PS3 and we're still early in it's life cycle.
The diversity of gameplay is what keeps you interested over the long run. Even with graphics this pretty you still need a game to play. There are tons of weapons, gadgets, and devices to use and upgrade. It can be a little overwhelming at first for people not familiar with Ratchet and Clank games. Instead of just blasting though everything with one or two easy to use and powerful weapons, it's better to experiment with all of them. For example, I kind of ignored the Nano-Swarmers weapon when I first got it. But after using it for awhile it proved to be powerful and indispensable, especially toward the latter stages of the game when the enemies get tougher. As you use the weapons, they upgrade, so something fairly weak at first may become powerful later.
The menu system is great and it's really easy to switch between weapons. It takes seconds to switch on the fly between multiple weapons. Elder Scrolls: Oblivion could have learned something from this game.
Every level has it's own look and feel and there's always something different to do. There's flying with the robo-wings, shooting through tubes on the gyro-cycle, jumping around on grind rails, fighting in the arena, and more. Sometimes you play as Clank and his parts were creative and a nice change of pace.
There are complaints that the game is little too easy. For veterans of the series, and newcomers who manage their weapons right, then yes it might be a little too easy. But the difficulty picks up toward the second half of the game and the "easy" factor didn't bother me because the game is so much fun to play. Also there's no way this game is too short. Considering everything this game has too offer, there's tons of game here. Also, the voice acting is good, there are some laugh out loud moments especially in the prison level.
Ratchet and Clank: TOD is not to be missed. Thank god for Insomniac, along with Naughty Dog with their game Uncharted: Drakes Fortune. These two companies are carrying the PS3 on their backs with two outstanding games, and are paving the way for a bright future for the PS3.

Just like the title says, Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction is exactly what the PS3 needed. This game meets and exceeds all the expectations: outstanding gameplay, eye-popping visuals, a twisted sense of humor, and weapons....lots and lots of weapons! Fans of past iterations of R & C will appreciate the "back to its roots" approach for the core gameplay and newcomers will love the variety and new modes that Insomniac have added for the PS3.
This game is a must-have for the PS3 owners out there, and it is a great game to share with the entire family. My 7 year old and I take turns playing...he loves it as well!
Go get it.

You cannot resist this game. It draws you in with it's incredible graphics and game play. No matter how old you are, you will enjoy it. In fact, if you are an older gamer like myself (mid thirties) you may even like it more, since it will remind you of all of the great platform games that you grew up playing, updated for the high-def era. If you have a PS3, this is a must own, so just get it and have a blast.

This game has some of the best visuals I've ever seen in a video game. It ranks right up there with Gears of War. The game play isn't all that hard, but that doesn't detract from the experience. It's still a blast to play. There is so much going on at any one time, it's really too much to take in. This is my first Ratchet and Clank game, so I'm trying to get used to some of the controls and customizations, but all in all it's a must have. It's got some good humor during the cut scenes and the characters certainly drive the story. The guys at Insomniac really know how to put a game together. They were the ones who did Resistance: Fall of Man (another must have for the PS3). You won't be sorry for picking this title up.

Ratchet is a very fun game which clocks in at about 10-12 hours of play. The weapons are great and vary from energy beam cannons to blade launchers. There are 15 of these diverse weapons, and while all are useful, you will find that you use some a lot more than others. New to the gameplay are "devices", which do anything from absorb health from enemies to stunning them by a discoball, causing them to dance uncontrollably. While these are fun to use, I really only used 2-4 of the 10 regularly. My only complaint would be the less-than-satisfying storyline. I had high hopes, and the story is there, but it really just does not come through like it should. Overall, this a very fun game, and a must-have for any Ratchet and Clank fans, and should be in the library of most ps3 owners. For everyone else, buy Uncharted.

I have a 6 year old, video game savvy son. Finding a game that is easy enough for him to play and keep his interest is near impossible. Finding a game that is in-depth enough and difficult enough to keep his interest is near impossible. Keeping them both in mind. This is the PERFECT GAME! We limit his video game time to an hour a day, but that hour is a richly enthusiastic time for son and father alike! Much love for this game from both a 6 year old and his 31 year old father. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
I've never felt compelled to write an Amazon review until playing this game

This game is one of the most creative and fun games I've ever played - full of character development, humor, great cut scenes, amazing scenery, fantastic variety, and obviously made to appeal to a wide audience.
Insomniac outdid themselves on this one! The graphics and gameplay demonstrate such a high level of thought and detail. I found myself in awe of the worlds that the developers created for Tools of Destruction.
The thing I enjoy the most about this game is the variety. It's hard for me to categorize TOD because one minute you're zapping robots, the next you find yourself flying through an asteroid belt, solving puzzles, grinding rails, or dancing a pirate jig (on a peg-leg no less). I could spend hours just trying out the different weapons and gadgets - Insomniac has some very talented people with a great sense of humor. How many other games have you played that give you the ability to make the enemy dance to a techno beat?
Beyond the missions related to the main storyline are several other unlockable extras and surprises. I would highly recommend this game to anyone. Great fun for all ages.
Love it.

Having never played the Ratchet and Clank series before I had no idea what to expect - especially with all the hype about how great this game is supposed to be. I halfway expected to be disappointed.
I was pleasantly surprised. The worlds are incredibly well animated and illustrated. The transitions between scenes are seamless and movie-like. The game is nice mix of shoot em up, jump around platformer and some puzzle solving. The Sixaxis is integrated into the game and keeps you from getting bored with the same old square-x-square combos that some games have.
I also like that the difficulty is not ridiculously hard. I have other lives, so spending forever trying to unlock a level isn't ever in the cards. Having said that, I have the guide and can do sections in 45min-1hour stretches. Though I dislike how the game restarts you at the start of the level even if you save later on... You don't lose any points, but you end up repeating some sections.
I also wish there was some kind of multiplayer and/or time challenge mode so i can play with friends...
Overall its the most fun I've had on my PS3 and it's a gorgeous game to look at and play.
Great Game

I am new to the whole Ratchet and Clank series. I thought this was an excellent lead in to the series for me. I got a lot of the humor and it was a lot of fun to play. My 3 year old loved to watch and pretend he was playing too. The plot was not bad. The enemies were tough enough to get you if you weren't paying attention. And sometimes get you if you were paying attention.
I especially liked the challenge mode that opens up upon completing the game the first time. I was like a whole new game.
Another Great R&C Title

Insomniac has done it again. The fourth (main) title in the Ratchet & Clank franchise is another must play game.
I won't repeat all the things already said about this game ad naseum, except these:
Graphics: They are truly stunning. I will admit though after hearing all the Pixar comparisons that we aren't there just yet, barely. R&C is at the top tier of this generation for games but honestly nothing I have seen has yet to compare to Ratatouille on Blu-ray, IMHO.
Gameplay: Solid, solid, solid. Some have said the gameplay is too easy and if I had anything to complain about, it might be this. I am not a glutton for a punishment in my games nor am I a hardcore gamer, but even I could've appreciated the difficulty tweaked to be a "bit" harder. Case in point, it seemed weird to constantly be passing by health regenerating orbs after just being fully healed by an equipment vendor.
That said, the variety and sheer quality of gameplay alleviate any complaint I might have had about difficulty. From run-and-gun, to platforming, to vehicle combat, the game is NEVER left with a feeling of monotony. Like previous reviewer have said, this makes putting this game down very hard. It is just that fun.
Story, Sound, etc: The voice acting is top notch and par for the series. The story, while a little convoluted is well presented and adds to the gameplay. The series is also noted for its sense of humor and that tradition contiues well here. It avoids cheesy jokes and never wears out its welcome. Replay is also here due to the ability to go back through the game and collect tokens previously missed to unlock extras as well as maximize all your weapons.
In conclusion: While the game isn't perfect, it is just so much fun and engaging that it really is a must buy for anyone interested in this genre at all. As for people who generally avoid action platformers, a rental is definitely worth it to check out what everyone is raving about.
