Best PS3 game thus far, one of the best games overall

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 8 / 8

I believe the game took me about 12 hours of gametime to beat and when I did, I immediatly started playing it again in challenge mode which is more difficult, you keep your weapons and armor but get to upgrade them more along with some other extras and hidden stuff. The graphics are superb. While I'd say maybe not quit as good as heavenly sword in terms of visual quality, overall it's better because the game runs at a rock solid 60fps and feels silky smooth the entire time. The sound is wonderful and you never feel alone because there's always dialogue with Clank or other characters in the background or cut scenes. The story is very funny and uplifting, it really makes you feel like you're watching a Pixar movie.

The game is one of the best game I've ever played. My all time favorite game is Super Metroid (SNES). I have loved many Sony, MS, and Nintendo games in the past so I'm no fanboy. If you're wondering if this is enough to buy a PS3 my response is a "qualified" yes. I would never spend $399 on a console for one game but, tons of other great games have recently been released or are coming soon.

You have:
Warhawk, Ratchet, Heavenly Sword, Ghost Recon, Rainbow Vegas Six, Guitar HeroIII, Oblivion and more now... and right around the corner you have Assassin's Creed, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, UTIII and much, much more...

For those of you more interested in family gaming my four year old watched and was completely entertained the whole way through. Once the game was finished he responded with only one word: "Again". If you like this title for family gaming you'll be happy to hear there's a bunch more family oriented games on the way including what will be the most innovative title in years: Little Big Planet. It's coming around January and has already won several awards.

In conclusion, Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction is a incredibly fun, attractive game that will put a smile on your face.

Platforming in the Next Generation

Honestly, I can't say that I'm a huge fan of the platforming genre in general. Of course I like my dose of Mario, but by and large I've avoided platformers. That all changed once I had the pleasure of playing Ratchet and Clank for the PS3. The first thing that jumps out of you when you first begin playing is the overwhelming sense of polish. The dialog is very well acted and written, the graphics clean and sharp, the level design thoughtful and interesting. Everything about this game screams AAA.

Graphics
There isn't many games out there that have harnessed the power of the PS3 better than Ratchet and Clank. Don't let the "cartoony" nature of the graphical design fool you, this game is an immense graphical achievement. People have compared it to playing a Pixar movie, which from the second you pick up the controller is immediately evident. The colors are bright and vibrant, the art design and the graphical power of the PS3 merging into a harmony of colors.

Sound
By and large the sound if very good, particularly weapon sounds. The music is very good in parts, but definitely lacking on some stages. The voice acting is top notch, Quark, Ratchet, and Clank are among the best voice acting I've seen in a video game. The world looks alive, and it has the ambient noise to complete the illusion. Top notch.

Gameplay
This is where Ratchet and Clank really shines. First of all, I hadn't played the prior titles in the series, so the weapon design and gadgets were fresh and new. There are literally tons of weapons to collect and upgrade, but I definitely found myself relying on 3 or 4 by the end. The enemies are varied and the AI is decent, though don't except them to exactly flank you or ambush you or anything. The level design is very innovative, some are linear, but many are open to exploration. The game is FUN, experimenting with the weapons, and collecting all the secrets is what makes this game so amazing. One aspect that is lacking is the space combat stages. They are annoying from a control perspective, and is the only chink in the game play experience, luckily these are few and far between. It may not push the genre to new heights, but it takes everything that makes a great platformer and adds that next-gen sheen that the PS3 was begging for.

Bottom-Line
This is a tremendous game, one of the few games on the PS3 that I can unequivocally say that you must own. It is a great display of the future potential of the PS3, and the product of thoughtful design and excellent execution. In a flood of Fall games this one stands out as one of those seminal gaming experiences that sticks with you for a long time.

This is a great game for kids and adults. Children will love to play (or even watch, it looks like a pixar movie) and adults will find fun in all the variety of play! I never played the R&C games on the PS2, but I LOVE it on the PS3! A definate must have!

Best PS3 Game, Every PS3 Onwer Should Buy This Game

This game is pure joy to play. The gameplay is so varied that you never get sick of playing the game. I literally played the game all day yesterday and could not set it down. It's a blast from start to finish. Do yourselves a favor and pick this one up.

Ratchet and Clank FTOD is one of the best looking games made on any platform. This is as close as I've seen to Pixar quality in gaming. Period.

So if you're like me and are sick and tired of all the FPS games that have come out this year, and are yet to come out, this game will feel like a really huge breath of fresh mountain air.

AWESOME IN EVERY WAY!!!

I've always been a real big ratchet and clank fan and this is the best one in the series.

There are so many great things about this game...

in a nutshell...

ITS A FUN SHOOTER! The gameplay is great and it's nicely balanced. At 1st i thought that the game was set way to easy, but towards the last-last part of the game, it got more challenging. Now that i beat it, i will definately go back on a harder mode and enjoy it the game with another skin, difficulty level and more weapons!

TONS AND TONS OF FUN COOL WEAPONS!

Even though the Six Axis had a little part in it, it worked great and i'm glad they didn't over do it.

GRAPHICS ARE OUTSTANDING! The levels are pretty big and the level designs is awesome! Heavenly Sword and Resistance really stood out when it came to graphics... and now this game will join it too.

The game is CLEAN... meaning... no game is BUG FREE, but they did a great job and i found no major BUGS in the game.

The story was a blur at 1st, but became very interesting and left us hanging at the end for more because of a certain situation...

You can also tell its a great game when your fiance is laughing at the scenes in between, enjoying the story line, even picks up the controller to play.

I really can't say enough, and insomniac did an AWESOME JOB! thanks for not letting us down!

Must Have Game for Every Game System (Only Available on PS3)

My only complaint with this game is that game systems other than PS3 can't deliver this type of entertainment, graphics, or gameplay on their boxes. Once you start playing this game you can't put it down. It is not extraodinarily hard - it is just pure fun. It doesn't make you frustrated. The storyine is fantastic as are the animations, cut-scenes, graphics, sounds, gameplay and playability. Humor is fantastic - as one reviewer said, and a newspaper said, it is like being part of a Pixar movie. Well done.

There are so many positive reviews of this game on Amazon, in newspapers, and game magazines - and they are all dead on. This is a must own game for anyone who has a PS3. In fact, if you can, it is worth buying a PS3 if you don't have one. It really sets the bar for all the other game systems who really, as MC Hammer once said "Can't touch this."

In My Top 3 Video Games Of ALL Time.

If I didn't already own a PS3 this would be reason enough to buy one. This game is completely and utterly amazing! The graphics are the best I have ever seen. The humor is hilarious. The characters are totally cool! The weapons are fantastic! The upgrade system for the weapons is great! The variation in play is staggering. If every kid was lucky enough he would have a new PS3 and a copy of this game under the tree this Christmas. I have gone back an purchased all the prequel versions of "Ratchet and Clank" on the PS2. "Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools Of Destruction" is now one of my top 3 games of all time right along side of "Mario 64" and "Halo" ( the original Halo ).

Really Great

I just received this game yesterday from Amazon, and it's fantastic, just like most of the reviews said. The graphics are amazing, and the gameplay is very smooth. I haven't found to many games for the PS3 that I really want to keep, but this, along with Resistance, is one of them.

A great game for all ages, especially 5 to 9

There are already over 120 reviews for this game and I'll try not to repeat anything already written. So, this is not a comprehensive review.

I have 4 kids from ages 5 to 9 and they simply love this game. It's very appealing and intuitive, as even my 5 year-old can do amazing things with Ratchet, including fighting, jumping, and selecting the right weapon for battle (there are quite a few to choose from). My kids understand the concept of gathering "bolts" (the equivalent to money in the game) to buy weapons, ammo, armour, etc. They even know how to "upgrade" their weapons to increase their power by collecting "raritanium" (another type of money in the game).

The game does not overwhelm you with all these choices at first, you slowly grow into it. I enjoy the game myself, and even as a computer professional (I'm a Software Architect), I can't do a few things in the game quite as well as my kids.

I'm not pulling your leg on this one: there was one instance I couldn't slide, jump, and battle. I gave the controller to my oldest kid (9). She couldn't do it either. Then the other 2 kids tried. Same thing, we all failed. Then my 5 year-old came in... and I promise you, it's the truth: he did it! I was floored and this is to prove that the game is e-x-c-e-l-l-e-n-t at appealing to all age groups. I don't need to tell you how happy and confident my youngest kid was afther this, as his older siblings cheered for him. It was a family feel good moment.

There are a lot of "hardware" destruction which makes it fun, and there is no "killing", it's more like "destroying". It's comparable to Lego Star Wars (we have them both) but my kids prefer this one by far, as it is more colorful, action packed, and more challenging. Yet, it's not hard enough for a 5 year-old to have a blast.

In a few parts of the game some kids may not be able to get by at first (i.e. flying). However, right now my kids can play the full games almost 100% on their own.

If you have kids, this is a must have game, no questions asked.

Awesome game.
