The other reviews pretty much cover everything about the game except the sometimes scary resemblence that Samonasuke has to Brendan Fraser. The Game is great but the horrible dubbing almost hurt it until I noticed that. Now its very humurous to watch the out of sync actors. I'm not trying to put the game down, I'm just sharing what I noticed so that others may enjoy the game more.
And How Did I Know It Was Resident Evil?

You Know, i've never been one to kid around when it comes to spending money, so i'm going to stand here (well, here) and say "Hey! Don't buy this game!" If you're into the mindless button mashing genre, go for it, you'll recieve no pity from me when you beat it the same day you buy it, with no need to play it again.
The Pro (yes, as in 1) for this game is the opening and closing sequence, with 3d models & rendering on par with almost any (FF series as one of the exceptions) other game.
Cons you say? Well..
1._Button_Mashing_ You could go through this entire game very quickly if it weren't for the need to collect a few new swords, solve a couple of fairly-easy puzzles, and beat a few mediocre bosses.
2._Did_I_Meantion_It_Was_Easy?_ I'll be honest, i haven't beaten it myself, but i watched my brother beat the end guy (i'm not spoiling it) in about 2 minutes. And he was only hit once, and grabbed once. Why? because a 4-yr. old could out-do the preschool-esque A.I. The enemies in the game have basically one thing in mind.. "GO DIRECTLY @ THE PLAYER" & "IF THERE IS ANYTHING OBSTRUCTING MY PATH WHILE MOVING DIRECTLY @ THE PLAYER, WALK TOWARD PLAYER ANYWAY"
3._The_Lame_Factor_ You know those "new swords" you have to collect? they look exactly the same as the one you start w/, except they have a different colored glow. Speaking of exactly the same, you can tell that Capcom made it because your pause/item screen looks EXACTLY the same, right down to journal entries, also combine & examine options for items on your person. Also, the CG may be great, but when it shifts from CG to in-game (like @ the end), you'll go from "That's one bad looking boss" to "Where'd this purple blob of polygons come from?".
I don't know, i couldn't recommend this game to anyone. I don't even want you to rent it. Wait for ANY other game to come out. heck, i'd rather you bought a book, that way you'd get something for your $$$.
Another worth while game

Now this like I said in other games is just amzing with graphics. There are few FMV's but the real time polygon background and facial expressions makes that all up. The graphicle power put into that face is purly amazing. I did not no they could do that t'ill a couple weeks ago. You can hear them talk and thats a great improvment on games. The reason why I give it 4 Star, which pains me. Is that its just to short. The game is to short and that really is annoying. A could game like that. Shame. Well any way get it. If you like samuri fighting. Good Luck!

Bought the game yesterday. Probably the best new game I've played all year. Not a big gore fan, but the gameplay is amazing, the graphics are what I have been waiting for in the PS2, and the storyline is incredible. If this is what the PS2 is about, can't wait till ZOE and MGS2.

Where do I begin in describing this game. Great, this game is one of the best Survival Horrors since "Resident Evil 2". Having just played the god awfull "Evil Dead: Hail to the King" I needed a game that would restore my faith in the Survival Horror genre. Low and behold my hopes are brought up wiith "Onimusha: WarLords". Combining the elements that made the Resident Evil series so great Onimusha bring Playstation 2 owners a true feast for the eyes. Demonstration the true power of the system the graphics are some of the best ever! tHOSE WHO ARE LOOKING FOR DIFFRENT GAME PLAY AND ORGINALITY LEAVE NOW THIS GAME IS NOT FOR YOU! Seriously there is nothing new to the game play which steals from "Resident Evil", "Soul Reaver" and "Tenchu". The game is however an awsome game if you want to have fun and become sucked into a story line with characters you can actually like. For anyone whom has seen "Ninja Scroll" this game is a lot like that movie. This game contains extreme scenes of graphic violence, gore, language, and some just plain down disturbing scenes! Not a game for the young crowd. Onimusha: Warlords is the game we Playstation 2 owners have been waiting for. It was well worth the wait!
I paid $5 for this and was disappointed.

Good:
You get a free case for the CD?
Bad.
No jump button.
Linear game play (You use a button to access doors and stairs, what is this 1985?)
Clunky controls. Its like driving an RC car where you have to mentally reverse your thinking when the car is coming toward you versus going away. This is totally lame and makes the game practically unplayable.
Did I mention no jump button?
I paid $5 and would have had more fun had I kept the money and A) made a paper airplane with it or B) set it on fire and watched the delightful glow.
Buy Devil May Cry 3 and have a blast. Avoid this one

Onimusha is cool. It's that simple. Great graphics, great sound, decent control, an interesting (and rather strange) premise and storyline, and some cleverly designed main characters make Onimusha the first game since PS2's launch to really crow about.
Onimusha is very much an arcade style game. The battles are intense, the attacks are fluid, the bosses are huge, the weapons are sweet (as is the upgrade system), and the music and sound effects are great. Unfortunately, Onimusha is also very much an arcade style game, which means it is WAY too short (a growing trend with PS2 games; see also Starfighter, The Bouncer, and Z.O.E.) and pretty darn easy. It is also very hard to overlook the ABSOLUTELY AWFUL dubbing. It REALLY is THAT horrible (so bad, in fact, this game probably deserves a three instead of a four; but I'm willing to overlook it with all the good the game has to offer)! I'm not sure if Capcom did this on purpose to sort of lampoon bad movie dubs, but it is SO distracting that it ruins many of the cinemas. It's a shame, too, because the voice acting isn't terrible (though it's no Metal Gear Solid).
In the end, Onimusha is fun. You'll enjoy hacking Zombie infantry men to pieces with the several weapons at your disposal (four swords, two of which can be upgraded, a double bladed bow, two daggers, throwing knives, the other kind of bow, and a rather awsome rifle) and the puzzles are designed to be clever without making you run back to the beginning of the game to find a gear or a key. But, keep in mind, it is way too short (and easy) and the Resident Evil riffs (like playing as both a male and horribly weak female character) do get a little old. But, man, that opening cinema...
rent it

Do not buy this game. Take a day off and rent it. It only takes 8 hours to solve. Graphically impressive.
Do Not Buy... Way, Way too Short!

I would love to recommend this game, but I can't-at least not at its current price. The game has a lot of great aspects to it. It has the potential to be a great game in the tradition of the Zelda's of the gaming world. Unfortunately, this game has a fatal flaw-its length. Honest to God, when I finished the game I thought that I was only through the first part. I thought okay, now onto the next stage. Instead, the game informed me that the next installment was coming soon. I felt so gypped. I even played it twice thinking I may have missed something that caused me to choose the shortest version of the game-but no. Honestly, I would rent this game on a weekend with no plans. You simply cannot afford to spend good money on a game that if it lasts you a weekend, I would be shocked. Don't buy this game. It has no replay or length value.
the best game released on the amazing ps2

i picked up my copy of Onimusha Warlords a few days ago and i was amazed and would not put down my controler until i had to go to a party. i enjoyed it so much that i wanted to write a review right then and there but my browser was down so i couldn't. it has a very deep story line that builds and builds and builds as you travel along destroying things. the graphics are THE best i have ever seen with excellent detail that you will constantly be amazed with. there are special attacks and kicks that u figure out and so many diferent weapons and armor that you find that you can level up and get better specials as you absorb the souls of the zombie warriors (the zombies actually have a signigificance to the story, they aren't just weird things popping up trying to eat your flesh) with your ogre gauntlet. ( the gauntlet blinks, it freaked the hell out of me when i saw it the first time, it was all dark outside and quiet, but anyways...) i am very far in the game and because of the new enemies, weapons, armor, items, enemies, and attacks, you will NEVER get bored. there is some blood involved in the game but it just adds to the realism. overall just buy this freakin game and you will LOVE it.
