I bought this game about a week ago, and I love it! The story is good, and the graphics are awesome. Also, who doesn't enjoy hacking up hundreds of nasty, evil demons into tiny bits?!? I found that it was only moderately challenging to defeat, and the game is a little on the short side. Those are the games only two real cons; however, there are a lot of extras to unlock that make it worth playing over and over again, and these are the challenging part of the game. Trying to get the Bishamon Sword and beating Oni Spirits will be challenging for most any gamer. I swear that one could play Oni Spirits for weeks and not defeat it! Also, the creators of the game had a little sense of humor.... One of their extras that can be unlocked after beating the game involves going back through the game with the samuarai protagonist, Samanosuke, dressed in a giant panda suit. It is one of the most hilarious things I have ever seen! Apparently there are a couple of other extras to unlock too that are nearly impossible to do but sound very interesting...
Pros:
- Great graphics
- Outstanding story and characters
- Awesome concept= saving feudal Japan from demons as a spiritually enhanced samurai
- Difficult extras to get
Cons:
- Not very long
- Not too difficult to just defeat
- I didn't think the ending was that good (just my particular opinon)
I hope this helps someone out there....
Good game but too similar to Resident Evil !!

The first great survivor-horror game for PS2! Great graphic, cool presentation and good action. However it's too similar to the Resident Evil series games, which I really enjoyed also. Although the overall game play was enjoyable, sometimes I felt like playing the old Resident Evil games. Finding herbs, finding maps, upgrading weapons, finding ways to open locked doors, switching playing between male & female characters and the usual final showdown with the big boss..... It's way too similar!! I guess this is the limitation of the Capcom game designers who want to repeat the proven method instead of trying whole new game design. What a pity! Also the game was way too easy and short that I was able to finish on the first day. Even the final boss was way too easy and I was able to beat him in few minutes! The Metal Gear Solid 2 better not disappoint me.
Not old or new but middle school...

By now you've heard the "Resident Evil with swords" description and that pretty much somes it up. Onimusha doesn't break much new ground and is a little lighter on the story than other survival horror games but it's a blast to play none the less. You do a lot less running back and forth looking for items and a lot more fighting, mainly due to the re-spawning or enemies. The controls will be almost second hand to anyone who's played any of the Resident Evil games and newcomers shouldn't have too much of a problem either. The graphics and music are both top notch, though the english voice overs could of been better. It's actually better to turn on the Japanesse dialogue with English subtitles because it fits the game a little better. All in all a good first showing, definately worth buying, but next time around Capcom needs to take things to the next level.

Befor I played this game I heard it got average reviews. Many people were telling me to buy Zone of the Enders. But I decided to purchase Onimusha. To my suprise, I found the game to be captivating, and the opening intro was astounding. My favorite part of the game is stabbing the demons in the back with the Shippuu. At first one might think this is a boring game but truth is once you beat the water prison puzzle it gets a whole lot better!
too short, but still a great game

I bought this game about a week ago. I work 2 jobs and go to school. I've played it on 3 different occasions. I beat it tonight (the 3rd time playing the game). It sucks you in, so much that I skipped one of my classes. The graphics are incredible, and there's nothing like hacking up demons with some sweet weapons. There is strategy and thinking involved which makes the game interesting. The story line is fairly typical, but it still felt like a new experience. The graphics, the detail in the swords and the characters is amazing. I can't wait until part 2 comes out (which it obviously will according to the end of the game). The last guy is pretty hard. I think I went through the game too fast though and didn't get one of the weapons I was supposed to get. I know that I actually skipped one whole section. I gave it 4 stars as well because of the length. I was hoping that I had only made it half way when I beat the game. It was kind of a suprise to see the credits rolling. Overall however, it was very worth my money. I am going to play it a few more times to try to get everything. The weapon you get when you beat the dragon is pretty freakin awesome. Hopefully they will start the second game off with that weapon. Buy the game. You'll love it.
Think Resident Evil, except with swords......

At first glance, it's hard to distinguish Onimusha from aother Capcom titles like Resident Evil and Dino Crisis. The same stuff is there: fighting the undead, lots o' blood, betrayal, lots o' blood, soul-sucking.... wait, that wasn't in RE.....
Onimusha is a very fun and exciting game that stays chalenging yet can also be relatively simple with certain puzzles. This makes for a fun and exciting experience through an ancient monster and zombie-ridden Japan. Thanks, Capcom. Just what I need: more nightmares.

This game, though short, is an incredible experience. Capcom fnally under stood that the action of running, stopping and shooting sloth-like zombies was getting bland and they took the genre a step further. In Onimusha you slice and dice zombie-like swordsman, but don't be fooled, these zombies are quick with the steel. The story is generic: the princess get's kidnapped and it's your job to save her. The graphics and environment are sweet. The Medieval Japan settings look awesome with the setting sun shining on it. The whole game has an errie feel to it. Of course there is much blood shed and puzzles to solve and there is even a huge demon monster which speaks english! Overall Onimush: Warlords is a sweet PS2 game. It has the value of a Resident Evil game, but with a much faster pace. Get Onimusha, it's short and sweet and you won't be dissapointed.

This is an excellent game. Lots of fun and exploring. Very nice grafics. A definite BUY! Of the 4 PS2 games I have this is by far the best (Dynasty Warriors, Rayman Revolution, Star Wars) Here are the problems,
You cannot use the Analog stick controller and have to use the 4 buttons to move the guy around..... with a little programing effort they could have made the game much easier to play by enabling the analog controller.
Took about 20 hours to finish this game (I am not a video game expert) and get EVERYTHING, except the 20 Flourites. I wish it was longer.
He hasn't slept yet ! !

Onimusha is the best release yet for the Playstation2 - Hands Down! We just picked it up yesterday and my boyfriend has not slept yet! The graphics are incredibly realistic, puzzles challenging, and the characters are excellent! (Wait until you see the weird guy hanging from the ceiling!) Remanisent of the Resident Evil days, only this time in a movie format - or that's what you would swear when you see the shots of the water and other detailed graphics. Even as a spectator it is enjoyable and entertaining. We are definatly glad we pre-ordered this game, it's going to sell like crazy PLUS it came with a free T-shirt! 10+ Rating 5 stars*****

Quite simply one of the most visually stunning games I've ever seen, Onimusha: Warlords also has the distinction of being the most enjoyable games I've played for the PS2. The game is developed by the same people who made the Resident Evil games, and it employs a very similar gaming style. The controller layout is the same, as is the inventory system. The gameplay, however, has been slightly altered. The action is similar, but there is a lot more of it. Accordingly, the puzzles have been stripped down. The biggest change, though, is with the weapons. Instead of killing zombies with guns, you get to kill them with swords. This might not sound like a big deal, but when the enemy is out of camera range, it's much easier to connect with a swing of a sword than with a bullet. Having enemies out of camera range is something that happens surprisingly often in this game, due to the pre-rendered backgrounds and set camera angles. Though, in their defense, those backgrounds are absolutely some of the most stunnig backgrounds in video games. Also, using pre-rendered backgrounds frees up polygons, all of which go into the most detailed characters I've ever seen. While you're playing, it looks like a real person battling real demons in a real feudal Japan. Absolutely stunning. Onimusha: Warlords is an outstanding game, from the gameplay to the graphics, and I can't wait to see what they do with the sequel.
