Final Fantasy Chronicles is such a great game, I don't Know where to start.(!Attention!, If you have a Super Nintendo and have Final Fantasy 4 and Chrono Trigger you don't really have to bother buying this game, unless you want to check out the added features).FF4 is just like the SNES version only its been enhanced with new magic, monsters, items, and CG(computer generated)cinemas and more stuff. I might be wrong, but I heard somewhere that the Playstation version is much harder than the SNES version. This game is quite entertaining, and the storyline is was one of the best I've seen. In my opinion, I thought Final Fantasy 7 was better in every way. Even though FF7 is better than 4. 4 is still a pretty good game. that's about it for FF4.
If you liked Dragonball Z, then your gonna LOVE Chrono Trigger cause it's made by the "Great" Akira Toriyama (you know the guy who made the characters from DBZ).I thought Chrono Trigger was better than FF4 in terms of gamplay, and graphcs. In my opinion, it ties between FF7.(only FF7 has better graphics). Chrono Trigger is the prequel to Chrono Cross. I thought Chrono Trigger was better than Chrono Cross.(Chrono Cross's graphics were much better).Chrono Trigger has VERY little to do with Chrono Cross. Chrono Trigger is about a red haired boy named Crono(NOT CHRONO), that travels through time along with his friends to save the world.
The only thing bad about these two games is that the graphics are quite dated and that it takes a long time to load in Chrono Trigger when you pull out the menu sceen. I don't think Graphics that are a decade old shouldn't bother most gamers. If it does, then I'll beat you up. This game cost less right now than any of those two games did when they where brand new, especailly now in 2005. Chrono Trigger was a rare, hard to find game at that time that usually sold somewhere around $60. right now, it doesn't cost more than $20. To me, FF4 is like an added bonus to Chrono Trigger in the final fantasy chronicles package. It would take a lot more to fully describe this game. I hope this review was helpful to you

P.S. Get Final Fantast 7 while you're at it.

A few facts in reviews that aren't right

Responding to a couple of reviews down below. A lot of people complain that Chrono Trigger is in this package when it is not a Final Fantasy game. Umm... do people even know that "Chronicles" is a reference to Chrono Trigger? And the title for Final Fantasy IV was NOT messed up in translation. It was called FFII because at first we really weren't meant to get FFI and FFII or even some of the ones after.

And this is my biggest pet peeve. One reviewer mentioned that in Chrono Trigger you can't run away. You CAN run away in the same fashion you run away in Final Fantasy by holding the L1 and R1 buttons.

One last other pet-peeve is that no one seems to mention that FFII on the SNES in America was the "Easy Version" of FFIV released in Japan. In this Final Fantasy Chronicles package its the "Hard Version" previously unreleased in America.

Aside from that the cons are correct. The game takes a horrifically long time to load (especially for Chrono Trigger). The other con is simply that while the extras and such are nice they aren't enough to make you buy this if you've got the originals.

I havent played ff IV yet but i loved cross cronicles. the graphics are top of the line. plenty of story to go with the action. Im looking for a way to purchase ff IV seperatly seeing that I previously bought cross cronicles when it first came out. If anyone knows if theres a way to do this please let me know. I am a ff fan from the begining. ffIII and IV are the only ones left on my list.

One of the best RPG's of all time

Honestly, FF 4 wasnt that great. The poor graphics were such a turn-off it was hard to play. But the cut scenes were excellent. Chrono Trigger on the other hand, was so overwhelmingly good it alone gets the five stars. Great story, good assortment of characters, side quests so you can stray from the sometimes frustrating main plot, weapons and armor and their upgrades, using time travel to do all sorts of special things like powering up items, not to mention multiple endings and multiple ways to beat the game. All in all, it was a great game.

Final Fantasy Fails the Grade.

This is for all you unfortunate game players who think the Final Fantasy series is best series since the invention of Pong.....sorry, not in my book, it fact, I rate it the worst RPG ever created. For the record, the first FF game was Cosmic Fantasy for the Turbo Duo system (a system that was years ahead of the others; first with 16-bits, first with CD drive) and compared to other RPGs, it stunk on ice. The boring tedium of the fight scenes was intolerable, and that is the heart of any game. The fact that the heroes just stand there and do not even interact with the monsters your fighting made me question the sanity of its creators. I found it as much fun as reading Beowulf in High School. Cosmic Fantasy was the first CD RPG I bought and after the great games I played in the past on 16-bit like, Neutopia I & II, Dragon's Curse and even Order of the Griffon, I expected a big rush from the CD driven Cosmic Fantasy but found myself instead, appalled at the total lack of interaction. I had even questioned the validity of CD drive over 16-bit entirely until I played CD RPGs like Dynastic Hero and Might and Magic III. To sum it up, if I had known that the Final Fantasy series was created by the same people that did Cosmic Fantasy, I would have never bought it in the first place. And to all of you RPG fans who think otherwise, all I can think is that you've never played a really good one.

good game but not perfect

I don't get why these remakes aren't perfect.Final fantasy IV suffers some major slowdown when you use menus in combat, and the load times before battles and switching to the sub screen in chrono trigger are absurd. That said, these are still very playable versions of two of the most important games in RPG history, and taken as such are worth buying. All the old timers will get to relive their super nes glory days while all the kids who cut their teeth on final fantasy VII might actually learn something about the genre's roots.Aside from some nice new FMV and a decidedly better translation on FFIV,though, don't expect a lot of improvements.

Great games, age old graphics

Ok heers the deal, this game is really great, it has truly stood the test of time. finla fanatsy 4 was a great game with a very invovling story, and chrono trigger my favorite of the two was just awsome. the music was truly awsome and the fight scenes never really got annoying, the cinematics were very well done in both games. though graphics were slightly better in chrono trigger they werent much to brag about but that did not hurt the game much. but ff4's graphics could've killed the game without gameplay, sure they were great back in the day but now they show their age. nonetheless i advise either getting this game or at least trying it, even if you dont like rpg's at least try it. the two great games on this collection are truly wonderful and are a must rent/buy collection. but if you are only interested in flashy graphics and couldnt care less about gameplay, music or story, well you really outta re think your rating system.

Two of the Best SquareSoft games, now readily available

If you've had trouble tracking down Final Fantasy II and Crono Trigger for your SNES, this is the solution for you. Or if you missed out on them, here's your chance. These are two of the best SquareSoft titles of ALL TIME. Any good RPG fan should play them. The added cutscenes are nice, although it is rather difficult to see all the endings in Crono Trigger (just as it was when the game first debuted). So take on the quests of the Dark Knight Cid and the timetraveler Crono in these two classic games.
