First of all, in this review I am only reviewing Chrono Trigger. If you enjoyed this review and want to see my review on FF4 in the future, just look for an X in the title. Now for the review.
One of the greatest games ever created has been re-realesed on the playstation and this is it. Former Super Nintendo owners will be in heaven while newcomers might think that this game is outdated they are entirely incorrect. This game has one of the best story lines ever created and some characters that you can actually care about. I am goung to divide this review into two parts: The good and the bad. Then at the end i will give my final review on the game.
The Good:
Graphics- although some people may think that these graphics are dated but they are possibly the best 2D graphics in any game.
Control- the control in this game is excellent. Unlike other games which leave you throwing your controler across the room, Chrono Trigger's controls are the best I have ever seen in a game. The only time I found myself in that situation is when you are on the ice on the mountain, but even that is not that bad.
Sound- the soundtracks on this game are some of the best, and the added music box is a nice treat.
Replay- With the New Game + feature and the 12 different endings, the replay value is high.
The Bad:
The only thing that could have had a little more work is the incredibly slow loading times.
Extras:
New Cinema Movies- the new movies are great. Hand drawn by the person who had drawn Dragon Ball Z.
The Music Box- already mentioned.
Overall Review:
Graphics: 10 out of 10
Sound: 10 out of 10
Control: 10 out of 10
Ingenuity: 10 out of 10
Replay: 10 out of 10
Gameplay: 10 out of 10
Fun Factor: 10 out of 10
Perfect Score!!!!!!!!!!
Tip: If you find this gme in the store(used or new) get it because it is really hard to find.
Thats it for my review thanks for your time.

I don't know what Karl is on, but had he known he did not appreciate the genre of RPGs, perhaps he would refrain from using such sheer stupidity in his review. The fact is these are classics for any rpg fan, and not some redneck gun enthusiast.
If there is any drawback, it is the loading times. These games were classic on the SNES, but the transfer to PS always brings the baggage of loading, and allows the games to lose some of their nostalgic flavour. Final Fantasy 4 was the first RPG I ever played, and Chrono Trigger I consider to be the greatest SNES game of all time. The animations are a nice addition (Except for the FF4 one. Bleh!), but play these for what they're based around: Two of the greatest classics available for wide release.
"MEMO" save is convienient! Lack of extras in FFIV.

FFIV (Final Fantasy II in USA) and Chrono Trigger are some of the best that SquareSoft has to offer. I do believe that both are equally good games and do have moving storylines. FFIV have been much more harder than the original that was been released on Super Nintendo. In my opinion, the only loading times is when you "LOAD" the game and saving as well. Now there is an extra "MEMO" save feature included for players' convienience. It saves just as fast as the SNES by using the Playstation hardware as a temporary save if players wish to continue playing. Then on the final save is on the memory card which does take time and assumed that the player will shut the game off. So loading was not such a big deal in FFIV since there are absolutely no loading DURING gameplay. Just saving onto the memory card to save and turn off the game. My main gripe about the game is that there are no CG during certain points of gameplay. Just at the beginning and the end, that's all!
Chrono Trigger has been remastered very well in the playstation. The CGs are great and the only downfall about this title is the loading times when going to menus. It seems that Chrono Trigger has been the focus on remastering the title rather than FFIV.
FFIV only has a couple of movies, but overall, great revisted title. Got harder, fixed tranlation on the text, more extra skills for the characters to use than the one on the SNES.
Chrono Trigger has more movies than FFIV, and seem to be more well looked at by the company than FFIV in my opinion.
If anyone is complaining about the save waiting and loading times, USE THE MEMO SAVE! Then when you are ready to turn off the game, then that's the time to save onto the memory card and go through that ONE moment of waiting time.
Chrono Trigger Yesss

I remember as a kid (not that long ago) and playing Chrono Trigger on my friends Super NES and how friggin awesome it was. When I found out that it was later released for the playstation I wasted no time in ordering it and popping it into my PS2. (Note you MUST have a PS1 memory card in order to save) Other than this there is no problem in the translation of this game to the Playstaion. Also added to the Playstation version are amazing new cut sequences.
I have yet to play the FFIV but I will eventually. These games are both classics and a must have for all seriouse RPGers.
My precious, what have the bad men done to you?!?!?!

Ok, I'd like to start with the fact that Chrono Trigger flat out did not even start on my PS2. This bothers me. For the benefit of the doubt, however, I will account this to product defects (the disc's broken). Therefore, this review is entirely on the FF4 port. (Although the only reason I got this game was for CT, i don't have it yet)
Ok, I like the new text, it adds a little more depth to us veterans... well, some of it does. In fact, some of it feels too... modernized. It feels like I'm reading this off a chat room, and not listening to the actual characters. And what the spoony? They cut out my favorite line! ;)
And the sounds? Dear, sweet lord, why must my ears bleed each time I shop? They horribly butchered the sound effects. And it's not my speakers, cause i just got done playing the REAL FF4 on my SNES.
And especially after playing the real game, this new version just looks... off. Kinda pale and sickly if you ask me. Plus the overworld backgrounds don't look right.
And don't you DARE tell me that Square couldn't have spent some actual time making this game better than, or at least up to par with, the SNES version. Both the PS1 and PS2 are much more advanced machines than the pansy SNES was.
All in all, I only gave this game two stars because I feel cheated out of my hard earned money into buying a game I already own that's not even as good as the original. And, spoony, it only earned that second star 'cause the original is the best RPG I've played. So, for all of you who still have that old SNES sitting in the attic, with that shoebox full of games sitting next to it, you'll be much more satisfied and save you hard earned cash by busting it out again for another go. If you don't have the old cart, I suggest you borrow it from a friend who does. And for thoes of you without friends who have the SNES, just remember that Tellah is actually saying "You spoony bard!" when he's beating Edward. That and the weapon "knife" is actually "spoon." While this doesn't change anything, I'll be spooned if it's not funnier.
But, like I said, I only bought it for CT, so we'll see how that goes when I get my game returned.
-later-
Ok, now that I've gotten a new copy of FFC, and CT works for my system (thankfully). For this I'll give it another star. I'd like to say that although I've not yet played far enough to get into combat yet, the beginning of CT feels pretty much the same (although the 5 second load times are annoying)
This is what many have waited for!

Squaresoft has finally gotten two of the greatest, FF4 and Chrono Trigger! It has been long awaited, and both of these games came out for SNES, and are now being released together on the PSX. There is to be added stuff in it, but since both the SNES versions were excellent, I'd say this will be too!

Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV is something that a new-gen (gamers whose first RPG is FF VII or other cookie-cutter FF games)punk like me have been dying to own in the first place. Of course, i'm expecting CT ten times more than FF IV, but who cares?! You have Final Fantasy IV, previously only released in Japanese version and Chrono Trigger, the best RPG ever on par with FF VI (it is still debatable which title is better). For all you other new-gen RPGers or gamers who's wondering what's all the fuss with these "old-fashioned games",here's a quick glance of these two titles.
Chrono Trigger: The prequel to the best selling Chrono Cross. Tells of a kid named Crono(what?!)and his companions travel through different time periods. The game starts off with Crono visits the Millennial Fair to see his friend,Lucca, and witness her new invention. After trying out Lucca's device,a girl who tagged along with him decides to try it out, too. And a bizarre thing happened when that girl vanished and was nowhere to be found. The cool thing about this game is NO RANDOM BATTLES,like Chrono Cross,a cool fighting system called the "Tech" systme which allows up to three characters to perform a move simultaneously(all three moves executed at one").This "Tech" system can be used to sort out different sorts of combination moves and hence, reputed to be one of the best battle systems ever created. The graphics are the best thing ever happened to the SNES console,as the background graphics has almost infinite variety of colour, refined sprites, and smooth animation. CT also has the best music by Nobou Uematsu since FF VII AND FF VI. Too bad, there is no orchestrated bonus tracks because it'll rock, like the CT theme.
Final Fantasy IV:The story is about Cecil and his companions stopping an evil king from collecting 4 crystals. After reluctantly slaughtered innocent lives to get one of the crystals for the king,he questions the king's authority, and was dismissed from his battalion. In addition,he is forced to deliver a package to a town, which then, you figure it out. There is nothing revolutionary here, the same ol' random battles, turn based stuff. What could really pull casual gamers off is the graphics, which is much more eyesore than FF VI,Lunar or Phantasy Star. Heck,it even make CT looked like FF VII. The backgrounds are plain, the animation of sprite characters are pretty basic, but minus, the superb 2-D monster designs.Thankfully the translations are pretty good, unlike FF V,thus, making the game more bearable to play.
However, games are not meant to be appreciated by graphics alone. CT has a great soundtrack, intriguing storyline while FF IV has cool dungeon designs, original storyline and superb translation. But,why 4 stars, you ask. I might even tone it down to three stars or worse had it been not the redeeming qualities i mentioned just now. Sad to say,the slowdown is MUCH WORSE than FF VI for CT and not-so-smooth controls. Why,Square, the loading times between dungeons are sooooooo long!!!! And it's a 16 bit for cryin' out loud!!! And would someone explain why FF IV takes TWO slots from a memory card?
In conclusion; try out the games before you buy it,but if you do not have CT,that's a good jolly reason for buying FFC. It's ol' school stuff, but it will appeal even casual gamers if appreciated right. Have a nice day!

I'm a Final Fantasy nut so I went out and snatched Chronicals. I alredy had Final Fantasy 5,6,7,8, and 9 so I thought I'd complete the set with 4. Well, I put F. Fantay 4 in my PS2 and was completely blown away. Not at the graphics and not at the full motion video... I was blown away by the storyline, script, and dialoge. Sure the graphics are only 16-bit but you don't even notice after a while. You lose yourself in the characters and the involving storyline. And then there is Crono Trigger. I had no idea what it was! I know... I'm stupid!! I had no idea that many many people consider it to be the greatest RPG of all time. Now I know why... the game is wonderful! I love this single collection of these two games more than I like all the other Final Fantasy games I own (which is every single one except Tactics). Don't wait to buy this game! Yuo can not find it anywhere anymore! If you see it, GRAB IT! If you see three of them, BUY THEM ALL! With the Final Fantasy movie now in theaters, a whole new group of people are hunting down every singe Final Fantasy Game they can find. So, if you don't already... pick up EVERY Final Fantasy game you can find! You may never get the chance again!!!

These were two great games, but final fantasy iv was too difficult, and my ps2 couldn't load chrono trigger. They're fun games, but save the receipt just in case.
