Despite my somewhat sarcastic title, this game is very fun. It isn't overly complicated, like other racing games, and lets you have cartoonish weapons to demolish you opponents with. There are planty of tracks, racers, cars and more to be unlocked, and it has online as well as local wirelees play! You can even custom make your own emblem, to be displayed when you school other players (notice i didn't say n00bs, i'm cool like that) over your internet connection. So, what are you waiting for? Buy it!

I am a racing game freak! I have every system made and any good racing game made for each system. I liked Forza Motorsport and NFS most wanted Black, but this game is excellent regardless of the system it is on. I wasn't a fan of the other Mariocart games on the other systems but this one is outstanding! I suggest unlocking Dry Bones and then his third cart which is a tank, very cool! The replay is amazing, I can't beleave the DS is capable of this. Step aside PSP the DS Lite is the new king in my book!!!!!!!
Innovative is Nintendo's key here.......

For those gamers who's been with Nintendo through thick and thin, there has to be a Mario Kart game for every system; its just a ruital. All the white-knuckle, nostalgia, turtle-hurl your way that satisfied fans for years is back and sticks to its roots with Mario Kart DS for the Nintendo DS.
Hardcore gamers who felt that Mario Kart Double Dash was not the the "true blue" exquiste game that we all known and loved can now celebrate; Nintendo has heard the fans cry. New modes mean new fun in addition to the classic gameplay equals a powerhouse game in Nintendo's DS Line-up.
Mario Kart has everything its predecessor had; the diverse characters, the broad variety of tracks, the weapons such as the banna peel and the star are back, however, there is a difference.Fortunately, change is a good thing is this scenario.
Look at your DS screens, yeah, both of them during the races. (dont crash though!) If you observed the rhetorical, the top screen is for racing and the bottom is the map, thus taking advantage of the system's hardware, so the bottom screen will be essential to gamers to view who's in first and if there are any up-coming gauntlets, which can add a new flavor of competition.
Adding three new items to the Mario Kart family are the Bullet Bill, Blooper, and the Bomb-omb. Bullet Bill is a weapon gamers usually get when they are at the bottom of the totem pole; this item tempoary transforms the racer into the ferocious Bullet Bill, setting gamers onto "auto-pilot",zooming past your fellow racers. The infamous Blooper is an innovative item; when used it tempoary blinds the opponent racers' views by squirting ink onto the racer, thus making it difficult to view the track. Last but certainly not least, the Bomb-omb explodes after a brief period of time, or when another racer comes near it, so gamers do not want to be around the blast radius.
The gameplay remains intact; choose a difficulty level, select a racer, select a car,and choose a cup. All of the courses here are retro and orignal, so expect to be on your guard as you avoid falling rocks in the "throwback" level Choco Mountain or endeavor not to fall of of Tick Tock Clock. Rest assured that there are unlockable cars, cups, and racers as well.
Battle mode is where fun is written all over it. Battle Balloon is where gamers can get the "feel" of old-school and fight against players or CPUS (for those who are can't play with real-stock) by oblierating each other's balloons to the finish. Shrine Runners has gamers collecting Shrine Sprites appearing in stages, which is sort of that 50-yard dash you used to play back in elementary; dashing to get the most sprites.
Mission mode is where you conduct certain tasks such as collecting coins or driving through numbered gates; although it gets repetitive fast, being patient enough rewards you with fighting bosses, yes you heard me. Whether it be attempting to knock off Big Bully or racing against Gomboss, it shows that Nitendo is not scared to stick its neck out and try something new.
Adding a myraid of replay value is the ability to take the race online via wi-fi because everything is online, no more staying up at three in the morning to see who's best. Although some stages and the number of racers that can compete are limited, it adds competiton since with only four racers, gamers will have to scramble and dive for first place.
The only problem Mario Kart DS has is the difficulty of the AI; sometimes during Grand Prix, gamers are almost at the finish line when suddenly a Spike Shell is thrown at them, thus their victory stripped away. Finding "hot spots" for the wi-fi connection isn't bad, but I just wished Nintendo could have offered a free wi-fi usb connector to those less fortunate.
Above all, Nintendo adds more meat and bones to their series of games. Mario Kart DS, no doubt, keeps the series fresh and fun with each bold-new entry.
Great Racing Game

I have absolutely no idea about nintendos, but I bought this for my 5 year old son and he is just hooked on this and plays with it in the car all the time. His older sisters love it too and there are fights as to who gets to play. I think I may need to purchase 2 more!!

I recently purchased a Nintendo DS for Christmas with games such as Meteos and Mario Kart DS so I'll just go on right ahead to the review.
Where should I start? First and for most the game looks goooooood, hell just as good as the N64 Mario Kart! Nintendo knows how to take advantage of what they have instead of putting alot of there machines graphics to the test. The sound is great as well, same old classic mario kart music levels but what Nintendo also did was add a storylike mode where you play missions and bosses which was another great addition to the series!
Nintendo also hit the mark by adding new characters to unlock which you have to do by playing abunch of race tracks and getting first place. This it self gives the game alot of playing time(man i remember i was playing this allllll day!)and much of its needed replay value. Sure you thought unlocking, getting 1st place in all and mission mode was enough but no Nintendo even added ONLINE PLAY!!!! Yes but beware 1000000234523% of the people snake there asses to win. So if youre in the mood to play some people from around the world just hit up your wifi connection and play till your hearts contend. Everything about this game just screams AAA work!
The Good
-Hours of playing
-Highly addictive
-Lots of missions and characters to unlock means you'll have your hands wrapped around your DS for days to come!
-Online is a treat, Thanks nintendo
-The Brand New Mission Mode is another great addition to the MARIO KART series
-perrrrrty graphics!!
-A crap load of karts to choose from for yourself
-New Tracks for the DS only!
The Bad
-They could have added some other things for online
-C'mon nintendo you could have added some really good tracks instead of some of the SNES ones dammit!..
Overall if there is one DS game you have to get this year its Mario Kart for the Nintendo DS. The game is literaly THE BEST AND ULTIMATE MARIO KART GAME EVER! N64 like visuals, great music, BRAND NEW RACE TRACKS JUST FOR THE DS!!! Mission mode ect.....ehehehe did I also mention this is the best Mario Kart game.....ever?
over all I give this game a
5 out of 5
Best for the DS!

If you have DS and want the best game, get this one. Its by far one of the best games of 05 and the best of all the mario kart games. Breakdown:
Graphics 5/5 These are the best graphics if seen on the ds by far. All the new courses and the gc and n64 courses all all 3d and all the karts and player models are 3d as well. As we all know that the ds has no texture filtering so that means blocky stuff! ya!!! but its not that bad. the only things that are blocky are the sides of the roads and close ups of the roads. overall great!
Controls 5/5 Cant get any easier A is to go and u use the d-pad to move. simple as that.
Sound 5/5 there isnt that much sound effects besides the motors which are pretty well done.
Fun 5/5 This is where this becomes the best game for the ds. Let me start 32 course 16 new and 16 old ones, 8 characters to start and 4 unlockable and wifi. this is where the best part of the game. the wifi is easy to set up and if you go worldwide u get to race some chinese people. now who doesnt want that? This is the best game for the ds
awesome game

I love Mario Kart it is so fun.I had this on Nintendo 64 but I don't think my N64 works anymore, that is why I brought the DS. On this game you can do a grand prix,Time trail, vs, battle and missions. I like doing Grand Prix the best. You can also do missions where they give you certain tasks they are easy at first but get harder as the levels go up. This a great game for anybody you likes racing games.

First, I feel compelled to mention that I have never played the previous incarnations of this game. However, that being said, I also have to say that I generally hate racing games. The tracks are often too difficult, and the acceleration and steering impossible to control. Often racing games I try end up gathering dust on my book shelf.
Enter Mario Kart DS like a breath of fresh air. Not only do you have a selection of cars to choose from, but also a selection of racers. But it doesn't matter which one you pick, steering and acceleration for all of them is a dream. The only tricky functions you need worry about are the Left shoulder button for launching weapons, and the Right shoulder button for "drifting" (a controlled skid into a turn). The various styles of racetracks, in typical Mario fashion, range from the standard to the downright bizarre. All of them are fun, however. Even the ones that make you pull out your hair (like the Luigi's Mansion course).
Racing in the Grand Prix is where the main action is, but you can also race against the clock in Time Trial mode. There are Vs games which present you with a singular goal, and Mission mode gets more interesting (and more difficult) with each mission.
With Multi-Player functions that don't require extra carts, just another player (or three) with DS consoles, the replayability of this face paced yet fun filled, game is ensured.
Bottom line, if you have no other game for the Nintendo DS, get this one.

Its a great day for DS owners. Finally, Nintendo's quirky system is living up to its expectations. Mario Kart DS is everything that you would expect from a Mario Kart game. It has MOST of your old favorites (tracks and characters)and throws in a new mix of everything else. It provides countless hours of gameplay and DS Wi-Fi is fantastic. Battle Mode is back and better than ever with multiplayer, and it brings back the old "Block Fort" from the N64 days. Speaking of which, multiplayer can be a mixture between people with and without the game, which is fantastic. The "simple" people get defaulted to a Shy-Guy character, but the players are limited to 8 of the 32 available levels. I am personally dissapointed, however, at the absence of "Toads Turnpike". If you were a fan of that track, you may be saddened as well. It does become stale very quickly if you dont have friends with the game or a router. After you go through and unlock everything you can, you really have nothing else to do. The Computers A.I. is relatively dumb regardless of how high the difficulty is set (They just get faster), and the missions get pretty repetitive after the first two or three challenges. If you are a fan of the Mario Kart series, this is another great addition to it. If you are new to it, you probably wont find anything wrong either, because the majority of people know other people with DS's. So, it is a worthwhile game and its worth your 35 bucks.
