The Best Real Time Strategy Game Out There

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 2 / 3
Date: February 20, 2008
Author: Amazon User

Medieval II is the best strategy game out there, by far. The graphics in this game are stunning, the campaign game is nearly as incredible as the battles, Medieval II is the perfect strategy game.

Overview: Medieval II puts you in charge of one of dozens of nations in Medieval Europe, with each major historical faction represented. Every faction from the Russians to the Normal colony of Sicily, from England to Turkey, from the Byzantines to the French, there is endless replayability on this game. Every major factor in Medieval life is also represented, you can control your nations merchants and steal your enemy's money, utilize assassins to remove potential threats before they are on the doorstep of your capital with a few thousand heavily armored knights. The amount of trainable units is incredibly high for a game and all are very realistic on the battlefield. Religion also is an important part of this game, needless to say if you are Catholic in this game, you must deal with the Papacy. Gaining favor with the Pope will be essential and the politics of the church may soon force you to use, alternate, methods to ensure there is a place in the college of cardinals for your new priest.... As your generals and family members do different things they collect their personal retinues (Assassins, bodyguards, merchants, the lance that pierced Jesus chest, the Veil of Veronica, mercenary captains, etc) That actually give characteristics to your generals. Exterminate a city, your general becomes more terrifying to enemy troops on the field, release prisoners and your general becomes more chivalrous. It will take years of playing to get tired of the campaign game, I urge you to buy this game, the few flaws (The occasional bug on the battlefield map) do not make this game any worse, this will be the best game you ever buy.

NO CD KEY!!!

Got the game for Christmas. Inside was a card that said, "Important User Information CD Key:" with nothing else on it. Tried contacting SEGA with no success. The game is useless.

big disappointment!

I am very disappointed with this game! I loved the first one and still play it. I just got this game and i played it for about an hour before becoming completely frustrated. I have a brand new pc with as much memory as you can get and this game runs slow as mud. It is really not like the first 1 at all. It seems like they took all the fun out of it just to improve the graphics a little. The gameplay is ridiculously complicated, and I am no novice gamer(I have played for over 20 years).I will probably never play this again, so I guess I wasted $40 bucks hoping it would be similar to Medieval Total War 1.

Great Game!

I love this game. It is my favorite game of all time. It has fun strategy, and the graphics are awesome. It's also very realistic. Looking for an RTS? Get this game!

Big Fan

I am a HUGE fan of the total war franchise and i think this is the best one yet, tons of replay value and isn't difficult to mod. Although as many other reviews say the multiplayer is limited in that you can only play in skirmish games and this is true. Overall a fantastic game definately worth it.

Total war is totally addictive.

Though it's not for every RTS player, I have owned all the games in this series, and this is the best by far. Best game of the year; worth full price! No glitches even in the original shiped code.

Fun, but has flaws

Building up your empire and getting new types of units is fun, as is the variety of countries you can play (Poland takes over the world?). Graphics look really good and its fun to see the fights up close. However, the battles can get a little monotonous - fire missiles (optional), send your infantry in, attack with your calvary from behind, chase down broken units with calvary, repeat. Missile troops aren't that useful in general, except when fighting missile cavalry or defending a bridge (any missile) or wall (flaming archers only). The flaws in the AI don't bother me as much as some other reviewers, but some things it does are really dumb. For ex, the AI will leave very valuable cities right next to an enemy virtually undefended. There are several things that aren't realistic, for ex, the whole siege process seems much too easy for the attackers. Also, troops in the town square won't break, so even peasants become more powerful. I have fought off MUCH larger formations just by putting all my defenders in the town center. Overall, a fun game but has some flaws.

This is such a great game! The only thing I hate is that unless you have to have your generals and agents at a high piety rating otherwise inquistors destroy them. Get this game. It rules!

Don't buy it!

Short review. It doesn't work; don't buy it. Although I have more than the necessary system requiements, the game freezes up as it's opening. It can't be minimized and you really have to struggle to regain control of your computer. Apparently online there are patches and/or drivers that will fix the problem, but when I buy a new game I have a basic expectation that it will work. I guess it works for some people/computers, but it didn't for mine. I'm out $40.
