I have played every Total War game there is. This one is by far the Best. I have completed game with each country. Some countries are easier then others of course. My record is a complete victory on the hardest settings with a long campaign in 21 days with the French. I have found however the only country I can win with againest the Mongrols is the English. Thos long bowmen rock vs there hordes. Anyway enjoy.

Same as Rome total war

This version is too similar to Rome Total War. Theres no reason to be a pagan who wants to destroy(Mongols, Vandals). You must want to build dirt roads, roads, then paved roads or lose.

The new Pope election is fun, and maybe because its something new. The rest is just a repeat.

It takes like 50 years to finish making a town.

Excellent Game

The study of the design and implementation Medieval Total War should be a required part of the education of anyone wishing to make a strategy game. To be challenging is important, to be fun is vital, but to make a product that works is essential. Many grand strategy games today are so fatally bugged, not to mention poorly designed and implemented, that great ideas are squandered. Avid players of Paradox games know this all too well. Paradox games are incredibly detailed and ambitious, but NEVER work properly from the day they are released to the final/tenth patch three years after.

MTW is exceptionally stable. Over 50 hours of play and no crash. My computer is an older model less capable of handling the graphic demands of the game, but even with slow down during massive battles the game is still playable, and more importantly it is still fun.

Generally, the AI is aggressive, and tries to put up a good fight, but there is one major problem: the AI ignores islands and doesn't seem to transport troops by boat - a severe strategic limitation that the human player may exploit.

Absolute historical accuracy may not be the top priority, but the design does not suffer much for it. Cut scenes are so cleverly and artistically rendered that the game is immersive and compelling nonetheless. And there are actually victory scenes at the end of the game! How often do you see that anymore in strategy games, rather than a scorecard with a static picture?

Now that it is patched, it's the greatest Total War game released

Did you love Shogun, Medieval, or Rome? Then you'll love Medieval II. It's got everything that made those games great, but with added gameplay and graphical upgrades.

The other reviewers complaints are mostly regarding the game prior to it being patched. Now that it has been patched, the game runs smoothly and the AI is responsive and intelligent.

Medieval II is the best strategy game out today. Just make sure you patch it before you start playing.

Good, but not much different

The graphics are excellent, but there is not that much difference from the previous game. The assasin is pretty useless.

Get it if you do not have Medieval total war, otherwise, I do not think it is too valuable.

Rome: Total War in a shiny coat

I'm going to get to the point, if you already have Rome: Total War, you do not really need to buy this game. For anyone who is just jumping into the Total War series, this would be the best place to start. Since Rome: Total War was so good, Sega decided to redo the whole Rome: Total War formula. There are some inprovements here though, these include

- Better graphics
- Unit diversity
- More units
- Better pathfinding
- A very anoying pope
- Medieval units

The graphics are very good, but don't expect to be putting the bar that high unless you have the lattest graphics card and computer system. Sega also introduced a feature that adds diversity to your units. In short, they don't look like clones. Cities are very detailed, and completely desructable. If you are buying Medieval 2: Total War for its graphics over Rome: Total War, you have a legitimate reason to upgrade.

Sound, well, not impressive. Standard booms and clanks. The music is halfway between the genius of Beethoven and an unmusical teenager trying to compose.

Gameplay, Rome: Total War, there is not much new here, not to say it is not good.

Well, all you Rome: Total War fans, if you are buying this for something new, you are going to be very disapointed (as I was). Yet, all you strategy gammers, this is a great place to jump into the Total War series

This game is great as an individual, but in the Total War series, it falls a little short of what was expected.

Graphics 9/10
Gameplay 10/10
Sound 6/10
Presentation 7/10
Stability: No problems on medium to high end PCs

Score 8/10 - Good

Highly addictive

I purchased this game to play over my winter break and it has not let me down! In fact, I found it more addictive than I anticipated. It has great depth and I am still learning new things about the game after three weeks of play. The graphics are beautiful and the sounds are great. There are a few minor AI issues (eg. sometimes, in certain situations, the enemy troops just stand there and let me shoot them with arrows) and a couple of frustrating bugs (eg. sometimes my men stop and don't attack what I tell them to) and I wish the naval battles were better (I would like to be able to control my ships the same as I control the men on the battle field). However, I have experienced no stability issues like a couple of the other reviewers. All in all, this game is very fun and worth buying only if you want to stay up too late at night, as during play, hours go by like minutes! Have fun!

Very involved and very tough AI, even on easy, I have to play Britain which has some safety from ocean borders. The strategy component is top rate and that is high praise from a Civ fanatic. I enjoy the politics of fighting for the papalcy, going on crusades, marrying off princesses and assinating other leaders. I almost do not even bother with the battle fights which is high praise for the strategy portion. Great game, excellent strategy, no bugs once patched (must have latest patch to avoid the archery bug, on older versions the enemy would not rush archers and would stand and be slaughtered). Runs fine with P4 3ghz, 1 gig ram and 256meg video. I also have a 2.4mgh w/128 video that will barely run this.
Germany, Poland, Roman area is diff as you are constantly at war with several nations. England + France are semi easy without many borders.

Superb Gameplay

I played the first Medieval Total War for years and never tired of it, so I was a little apprehensive when buying this for fear of being disappointed, but I was pleasantly surprised. The graphics are better, the AI is smarter, and the game is more detailed and intricate. The most significant improvement, though, is that the game has much more personality and it makes the experience that much more rewarding.

The tutorial is helpful and I recommend leaving on the advisor the first few times through the game. Also keep in mind that you need to "win" a game as one of 5 European factions to unlock the rest of the factions. I recommend playing a "short" game if you want to quickly unlock the other factions, otherwise it may take weeks to win a "long" game.

Overall, I am very happy with the game and I highly recommend it for anyone that enjoys PC strategy games.

Total War : Series That Has My Vote As Series of the Decade

I can recommend Medieval II without qualification. I have played each of the Total War games starting with Shogun. The game play experience is always improved over the preceding one. I do not know how they do it. Each of the games -Shogun, Medievel, Roman, and now Medievel II, are without flaw. Although each game in the Total War series has pretty much the same game play, somehow it's always fun and never fails to please.

I wish that other publishers would produce such quality products.
