RE: 14-year olds shouldn't write reviews...

Excuse us sir but people have a right to give as many stars to a product as they want. There's nothing wrong in pointing out the flaws of a product as much as you guys want to desperately hype a product so that it sells big even though the quality actually stinks. If you want to criticize truth tellers as 14 year olds, then keep it up. Likewise we can easily counter your baloney by saying that 4 year olds like yourself who knowingly lie to the public about a product and give it 5 stars shouldn't be writing reviews either. Just look at how far down in price Max Payne 2 has fallen, from $50 to $20, more so after more dissatisfied customers posted honest reviews of the game to counter all that false hype earlier. As an ex-MP2 customer who bought the game, played it, and then sold it on ebay because it was no better than the first game, I actually agree with those who gave 1-3 stars on this game.

Having said that, yes it's a noir love story all right. Unlike the first game, Max Payne makes himself look more guilty even though he was actually doing the right things in Max Payne 2. There's no nightmare levels unlike the first game but there are more slow moving levels not to mention a level where you just go through a simple maze without any enemies. Unlike the first game where only twice you lose your weapons, in this game you end up losing your weapons all the time even though you can probably make do without them up to a point. As for Mona also playing, at first it looks interesting but after playing one level of it, you realize that playing Mona is no alternative to Max himself except that she gets the Dragonuv instead of the Sniper Rifle and that she has fewer weapons than Max himself. It would have been nice if the developers would have actually designed Mona to able to punch and kick (kung foo anyone?) enemies in addition to using guns alone. As for the audio, at first the speeches are fun to listen to. However, as you progress through the game, the audio is redundant from background music to speeches from your opponents. Like the first game, Max Payne talks to himself more often than not although you can start up a dialog with certain characters in the game other than your opponents of course. To say that this game is flawless is to believe that fool's gold is real gold.

If you liked the first Max Payne, you may or may not like Max Payne 2. However, as some have honestly pointed out earlier, if you did not or now do not like the first Max Payne, don't expect much from Max Payne 2.

Same as the first Max Payne ... avoid

For a sequel that does nothing but merely repeat the original except for little graphics decorating, Max Payne 2 fits the bill. If you like(d) the original Max Payne AND want more, then this sequel may be what you are looking for. If, however, you didn't like the original Max Payne or are just plain bored of it, then forget the sequel and save your money for better games ahead.

Re:I didn't like this-it was disappointing

I loved "Max Payne". From the day I bought it, I was hooked. I finished it, and anxiously awaited the sequel. When It cam out, I played it over at a friends house. I still have not bought it. I was just disappointed with how they took the storyline. In the game, there's no mention as your playing, of the first game(unless you play the "previously" video in the game). Secondly, Max looks NOTHING like he did in the original! I can understand that times change, and I read how super looking max now is, compared to the original, but His looks didn't strike me as great. Medicore, I would say. And last but not least, if you don't have high specs for this game, don't even bother wasting your money, or downloading the demo(especially if your a dial up user). It's just not worth it. I'll stick with the original instead, this game, in my opinion blows goats.

Time for an honest review of Max Payne 2

Folks, it's time to take an honest look at whether or not Max Payne 2 is really worth it. While this game has been hyped despite poor sales as admitted by Take Two CEO Jeff Lapin, I thought I'd step in and give an honest review of this game. Yes, this game is somewhat better than the first but only because of the enhancement in graphics. If some of the levels in Max Payne 2 look familiar, it is because they were the same as the ones in the first Max Payne only a bit more enhanced. Like the first game, there's no multiplayer and as soon as the game ends, the fun is lost to the point that you have nothing to gain by trying the harder skill levels since they're easy right after the first couple of levels since it's the same number of enemies and you only have to hit them in the face and in the case of Max Payne 2 let them blow themselves up or knock each other out. However, what's worse is that unlike the first Max Payne where there's a little refreshment after coming back, the second game leaves no room for getting a refreshing look after say a few months and that's where the lack of replayability comes in. Also, the hardware requirements for Max Payne 2 are not justified since it's the same as the first Max Payne. You'll notice it once you try and compare both Max Payne 1 and 2 on a machine that has more than enough requirements for Max Payne 2. I hate to be a tough grader but this game could have been a bigger improvement rather than a rehash from the first.

Re:Outstanding game that doesn't last long enough

Max Payne 1 may have been sort of outstanding but Max Payne 2 comes nowhere close. Just about any other game could easily take all the hyped features of this game and thus bury it. And don't forget no multiplayer and the fact that it is extremely boring after the first play. The only thing different in the toughest skill level is Mona is alive instead of dead which is the dumbest thing a game developer could come up with to try to make the skill levels unique.

Started out nice but turned out to be boring in the end

Yeah, it's souped up a bit but don't let the big time praisers fool you. Trust me, whether you're an occasional gamer or a hardcore gamer, you'll wish you didn't bother buying it once you're finished. Now it's clear why they wanted renting software to be outlawed. Even then, you could borrow it and within 18 hours or less beat the game even in the hardest mode and all secrets found.

P.S.: Notice that all the people who praise this game pretty much repeat the same nonsense. No wonder this game never got anywhere and suffered from really poor sales !

Too short to be true

It's funny how some people will stoop to low level lying like 5 year olds just to desperately hype or actually resuscitate a boring game like Max Payne 2 which is hardly better than the first except for perhaps the slightly sharper graphic details and slightly more flexible movement such as moving or knocking down a box but beyond that crapshoot at best. Even with the harder skill modes, after the first two levels, the game gets easier after that. In fact, half the time in the game you don't fight anyone but instead run aimlessly through a maze with Max Payne rambling more baloney with his droning voice. Best bet would be to get it at a cheaper price like below $13.

And good luck waiting for Max Payne 3 since it ain't likely to come.

Too much emphasis on emotions

Unlike the first game where Max Payne had at least a can do fighting attitude, in this sequel, he's always in conceding mode until the end of course and even then it ain't always so. Sure, the bullettime and graphics are souped up a bit but storywise and gameplay-wise, this game lacks much of both. It was annoying enough that in the first game Max had to walk through a couple of dark mazes but what's worse in this sequel is that in at least 3 or 4 levels of this game, Max walks through while talking to himself in a more groaning manner which is even more annoying. Also, too much emphasis is placed on Max's desperate love for Mona. Yes, there is supposed to be love noir crap in this sequel but how much emphasis can you really afford to put on emotions until you make the game all sappy !?!?! Too easy and too boring if you ever want to play it again. Get it for a few bucks at ebay for what it's worth !

Just a one-day come and go hype game just like the first.

Despite all these false and hyped reviews about how great the game is, not even a casual game player would buy this game. I'm glad I bought a used copy dead cheap and I'll be happy to sell it dead cheap on ebay after having only one day of enjoyment easily beating it even on the most difficult level.

Defective Copy Protection Ruins Game

If you're fortunate to have one of the CD drives this game supports, it's decent, however there's no way for you to know ahead of time. Their tech support is near worthless with my request for help having them tell me that I need a second computer to test it on... Yes, to get support you apparently have to have a computer lab to verify on. The game worked on my old CD drive, the only difference is a new DVD drive. My other DVD drive in this computer won't work either. They've had this long w/out patching their cruddy protection? They aren't going to if they haven't by now. Avoid this like the plague unless you feel safe downloading a no CD crack or need an expensive beer coaster.
