Max Payne 2 Review

Game is essentially an add-on to Max Payne 1, which I also own. Payne 2 is much shorter than Payne 1. Pretty much the same weapons (except adding AK-47), bad guys, AI, graphics, slo-mo effect, etc. as in Payne 1. Utterances by bad guys were much more clever and entertaining in Payne 1, not so in Payne 2. Also, the environments, slo-mo death scene of baddies, and story line were more interesting in Payne 1. Thank goodness I only paid around $9 for the game. If you liked Payne 1, then Payne 2 is a short extension of it and you'll enjoy it somewhat.

This game is wicked awesome!

If you thought Max Payne 1 was totally awesome, you HAVE to buy this! This game is so good that you will want to call in sick for work so you can play it 24/7!
The moves are 100x better and the graphics...they are the best I have ever seen in a game! It is like watching a movie when you are playing that is how realistic the faces and bodies look.
Realistic gameplay too! YOU MUST GET THIS!

I loved the first game and this sequel is better than the first. Very short but with nice replay value. Amazing graphics, sound and music. Lifelike Charecters. Superb level design. Ragdoll physics are realistic. Bullet time is much better. Mp2 is a story driven game with lots of emotions and an excellent ending. With two endings, one in the Detective difficulty and one in the Hard Boiled difficulty. I have not yet played the others. Max and Mono look different here. I liked the new actors though i liked Mono of the first game more. Dream sequences are very well done and actually feel like a dream. Surprise package is that you can play as Mona Sax in a few levels. Nothing new but i loved it. My system is Win98SE, P4 2.4Ghz, 512mb Ram, GeForceFx. Mp2 runs great with no problems. Max Payne 2 is excellent and lives up to the original. One of the best games of the year after Tron 2.0, Splinter Cell and Gta3 Vice City.

Max Payne 2 is everything the first one was in terms of production value and fun. If you liked the first, you'll enjoy the sequel even more with the added "Havok" physics engine that delivers awesome ragdoll physics. The only thing I missed was the "bullet time" mechanism from the first game. You still get scripted bullet time happening, but not every time you get a head shot. If you happen to own a force feedback mouse like Logitech iFeel, Belkin Nostromo n30 or Saitek Touch Force, play this game using the Immersion Gaming software from the Immersion website and you even get to "feel" the gameplay.

This game deserves an Oscar!!

I never played the first Max Payne, you don't need too. This game is awesome. The story is awesome. The graphics are awesome. By far, my favorite game. And too be perfectly honest, I think the game is plenty long enough. The length of the game fits the story nicely. Anything longer would just seem to drag it out.

The Prime of Max Payne

Compared to Deus Ex Invisible War, Halo, UT 2004 for the PC;
Max Payne 2 runs two to four times smoother in the graphics
perspective. That's why you will love the bullet time and
shootdodging effects.

In The Detective and Hard-boiled modes is not differently
noticeable in difficulty. But you will be satisified, the last
graphic novel mode, in Dead on Arrival.

The challenge is there. Diversity in locations is evident.
Evesdropping on the bad guys is enough comedy to let them live

for an extra second. Hell you can watch TV through the levels.

The story is well screenplayed enough for a good film.
Mona Sax ultimately gives Max a reason to go on.
It will all make sense towards the end.

Don't make it a late goodbye.

Amazing followup to the first game

The first Max Payne game was amazing and was the first game to suck me in and keep me up late at night playing for hours on end b/c it was so good. This followup doesn't fail in any aspect and is even better than the first! The gameplay is amazing, addicting and challenging. The graphics are beautiful and realistic and are so well done that you forget you are playing a game sometimes! The ability to react with everyday items like the trashcan (you can stumble over it and move it) or chairs is an especially nice touch.

I like the look of this new Max Payne vs the first one. They did a good job with the panels and cut scenes with Max Payne and Mona as well. The character development is good for both of these main characters.

The weapons are fun to use, need I say more? I love sniper mode the best because the bullet is followed from the moment it leaves the barrel, and it is a beautiful shot watching it shoot towards your enemies.

Overall I loved this game, and the only negative thing I have to comment on is that sometimes the game would get sticky in crazy scenes where lots of shooting was going on, but my computer is not tweaked at optimal performance with the choicest hardwares, so I blame it on that. :)

Max Payne 2 is the most fun single player video game on the computer right now. The gameplay is terrific and the graphics really set the dark tone of the story very well. The computer AI is admittedly dumb, but you must realize that giving the bad guys stellar AI would make a game about one man tearing up hordes of thugs single handedly rather hard. So for the sake of a good time, let's let the computer be dumb.

Man oh man didn't we all love the first one...I couldn't wait to buy this game, and after one defective copy (cyclic redundancy error-if you get this don't waste your time, return it) I was in business! Lot's of story, relatively short game, something just wasn't right about the game. Don't get me wrong, the physics are awe dropping-rag doll hello! But I don't agree that the graphics are much better at all. I can max out both games with full 6xAA and 16xAF and I feel the first looks just as good. Anyway...I FIGURED out what made me feel like MP2 wasn't as fun as Max Payne. For those of you that played MP a lot and got fairly good at, it probably wasn't challenging enough and sorta boring, like going through the motions. This happened to me. The fact that you can only play on detective mode made the initial play of the game a TOTAL LET DOWN.
