This is another installment for Max Payne, an awsome game that has been out for some time now, this game has awesome graphics the only problem I find is that it is way too short for the price, lets face it the price is a bit steep for such a short game, reminds me of Half Life Blue shift, another great idea for a game, a sequel that was way too short and much to costly. Otherwise I like this game!

I've read a review of this game where the person complains that it is too difficult and there's not enough gameplay. If you're having too hard a time on your own, get some cheat codes to help ya. gamewinners.com is a good place to find them. And, about the gameplay...true there's not as much as say, Half-Life or something, but with Max Payne 1 and 2, one of the main ways they tell the story is thru the cutscenes and graphic novel selections. That, in my opinion is why MP2 is called a "Film Noir Love Story", because the cutscenes and such make it seem more like a film. This isn't a game where the player can understand it simply by going around shooting people and occasionally talking to someone on the street after a massacre. That's the genius of Max Payne and I have to give serious credit to Rockstar Games for thinking this idea up. Look forward to Max Payne 3 and Max Payne the movie.
Max Payne 2 is great, but much shorter than it's predisesor

Im a fan of Max Payne to begin with. This game was a marval for graphics and interface, and just a all round good game. and the Havoc engine (rag doll and knocking over everything) is just amazing,
There are a few drawbacks.
1. The game is much shorter than it's predisesor and can easily be beaten in a weekend (it would probly be a better rent for the PS2 version than to buy
2. the other draw back, is that you cant select difficulty settings at the first time you go through it, so you start out on easy, and it was too easy to go through the first time, I usauly set my games at the hard setting the first time i go through, because i feel, thats the time where all the magic and adventure is. (recomend that people look for a crack that unlocks the harder levels right away, first mode is too easy)
3. the third drawback is the plot line is not nearly as deep as the first one, and your arnt as woven into the story like you were in the first one,
Great graphics, the movements are very fluid, and the character and scenic CG were just amazing.
I would recommend this game to anyone who enjoys a good adventure game and wants a few days of just good action fun,
but if you are goin to buy it, recomend looking for it for 30.00 dollars, its worth that, get much higher, and... well, you may be disapointed,
Haven't I seen this before?

The graphics in Max Payne 2 are the only improvement over its predecessor. The game play was unchallenging and boring. Part of the reason for this is that weapons and powerups are too abundant. The enemies will make the same stupid mistakes time after time. There were not too many points in the game where I was forced to put my skills to the test. Since I found this game so easy, I will review as if it were a movie.
The core of a good movie is the script. A movie with a strong script can still be successful even if the actors are not great. The script for Max Payne 2 is weak and the actors are bad. I was left wondering many things about the back story, and as a result I didn't really connect with any of the characters. How could Max really be in love with Mona Sax? From what we saw of their relationship in Max Payne I, it was limited to a handful of brief encounters. I didn't buy into it. The characters were superficial and two dimensional. The developers could have easily taken the plot further by putting more items in the game that help develop the characters and story. I found that the answering machine message and television sets worked well in this regard. The nice thing about these types of elements is that the player is allowed to control what they want to see.
In summary, when I play a game; my primary reason is to be entertained. In a game like this, either a strong story or great game play will keep me entertained. Max Payne 2 did not fulfill either of these criteria.

Max Payne was a great game, and one of my favorites. When i heard they were making a Max Payne 2, i was thinking, "I don't think this can be as good as the original. The original was incredible".
I was wrong
Like most sequels, they fail to meet the original's standards (movies in particular). But there are so few rarities that the sequel equals or even exceeds the original (like The Godfather and The Godfather Part II). Max Payne 2 is one of the few.
I've only gone about 1 level in, so i'm not so sure what the story line is, so i can't truly say that the story line was better than the original's, but the original's story line was amazing and I think it would be very difficult to have a better story line than that one's.
But, there are improvements that make the game equal to the original. The graphics in this are an improvement which is saying something considering the original Max Payne's graphics are pretty good themselves. The sound is good, there are little to no glitches, and most of all, the physics. In many games that i have played, you walk into a box, or a trash can, or something like that, your character continues to walk, yet not moving anywhere. In this, when Max walks into one of these objects, they move. And their motions make sense. Also, if you shoot someone, his motions too make sense in regard to where the bullet was shot from.
The cut scene format is something that has always amused me as I was playing and they continue using it. I find them using the comic book format interesting. Also, I like how they treat the game like a movie. IE, "A Film Noir Love Story" and how the game comes in a DVD like box.
All in all, the game is a great game and is up there with the original
Good Game!! BUT BUGGY!!!

Well I Got the game from bestbuy and got it home the 15th.I installed it, played it and got to chapter 7. then it froze while i was at the splash screen loading the next chapter, i could not get out of it so i had to hard reboot it. i came back tried to load the level i last played no go. so i disabled the startup group items, rebooted and tried again with nothing running in my sys tray, same thing would not load, so i went to a previouse saved game and it loaded. ok thought maybe it was a bad save..played to the chap 7 again would not load. deleted saved games started over..same thing.uninstalled reinstalled the game, nope same issue. I now cant get passed the 4th chapter and it freezes. all my other games work of course.i even tried it on low setttings. no go. i am tired of hard booting my compupter. so i bet they will have a new big patch hopefully to fix this issue. otherwise i will be selling it here soon. other than that the game is a blast to play, it is one of the best games i have played all year..but battlefield was buggy too in the beginning so i will give them a week otherwise i am selling it.....maybe some day in the future after they fix this i can buy it again... i have a amd 2200+ win xp home 512mb pc2700 266 fsb with geforce 4 ti 4600 128 agp x8.......all other games run fine..even halo..!

I'll make it short.
The good
Bullet time 2.0 just flat out kicks ass. You shoot, shoot, and shoot in Bullet Time and then, just as you're out of ammo and you think, "Oh crap, I'm dead." You suddenly do a bullet time spin, reload your gun, and bring it right back to the ready position in split-second timing. Badass. Add that to the graphically beautiful...graphics...and you're good to go.
The story's wonderful too. A film noir love story (as though you haven't heard that already) mixing in a love affair with Mona Sax and Max Payne, and it seems like everyone's trying to shoot them right in the middle.
The bad
The story's great, but it tends to drag sometimes. And the dream sequences...uh, I'm all for normal story and all, but do we HAVE to keep running through an endless maze of doors just to get past 4 guys who kill you/you kill?
Also, it's short. Real short. Like finish-in-10-hours short. As in why-the-heck-didn't-they-do-something-else?!
The ugly
Chances are you're gonna be staring this one in the face, for a long time after you beat it. Beautiful and damn fun, but when it's over it's over.
Food for thought

It is rare that one can play a video-game and actually care about the fate of the characters that you interact with.
This to my mind is really the strongest point that Max Payne 2 has to offer. It is more than a game... the characters feel real...they have flaws, strengths, dreams, ambitions, people that care about them.
The graphics and sounds drip quality. Plain and simple.
Alot of reviews have criticized the length of the game. While I can see their point, I don't think this is really fair.
The game is meant to put you straight into an action movie:
Fight alongside hobo ex-cops, prostitutes and killers while executing spectacular stunts with bullets flying everywhere. How long does the average action movie last ? My point is that the length is just right. You can only mow down so many gangsters before things get ridiculous.
Besides, if you want more of the same then you have the option to play again with increased difficulty. I beat the game on all 3 settings and enjoyed it each and every time.
The love that develops between Mona and Max is beautiful to experience.
The ending changes if you beat the game on "dead on arrival" mode ! You have to work for it, but it is very satisfying and worthwhile...and it is the _real_ ending.
Max Payne 2 rocks!

This game simply outdoes every shooter out there. The third-person 'Matrix' style shooter draws you in from the get-go. The biggest improvement to this game from the original was the fact that you can gain bullet time with passing time rather than just killing enemies. Graphics and sound are also better than the first. The #1 best thing about this game is as most people agree the ragdoll physics with slow motion bullet time to help you take out more bad guys and dodge bullets.
Two thumbs way up for this game. I'm about to play it again for the 5th time since Christmas of 2003.
Max is big on fun, short on endurance

Max Payne 2 takes all the elements that made the original a hit and updates them to make an exciting if brief thrill ride.
The bullet time feature that was the main drawcard of the series is great fun to play with. It basically allows you to play
the game in slow motion while your opponents move in real time, as many people will recognise from the Matrix films. The
cutscenes are done using graphic novel pages that help give the story its film noir moodiness. The action is fun and the
story so stylishly done that you can get sucked in. However, the game isn't by any means perfect. The action while fun isn't
greatly challenging and the average gamer will find that the first run through is relatively smooth with only the occaisonal
tough parts. Its this ease of progress that also makes the game a short experience, just as you find yourself getting into
the story it is over and you are left with some unlockable options and a feeling of disappointment. It is a prettier (though
perhaps that isn't the best word to describe this game) game then the original, of course this is to be expected with the
passage of time, but somehow it isn't quite the fulfilling experience the original was. In the end I can recommend it for
fans of the original and those who enjoy action games, but with the caveat that you might not want to pay full price because
it doesn't justify it. Wait for a lower price point and then enjoy the ride.
