Immersive Moves up a Notch

MMORPGs always attempt to build worlds that are immersive, seemingly real. Star Wars Galaxies moves up a notch from all previous games by making characters VERY customizable. So very much so that if you were in a room of 100 player Wookiees, chances are you'd not see any 2 alike.

SWG also has a vigorous player economy. Everything from food to weapons are made by other players and available from a central marketplace much easier to shop than EverQuest's "Bazaar." You don't even need to meet the seller in person, or even have them online at time of purchase.

SWG features all the familiar alien races you've seen in the movies, plus some new species you've probably not seen before. It has varied and diverse planets, a wide variety of places to see, an easy way to begin "missions" that you can do solo or join together with friends to accomplish, and of course the Rebel and Empire sides to the civil war... you can elect to choose sides or play neutral. For those who like to pick a faction but do not particularly like Player-vs-Player conflicts, you may elect to go "covert."

This is the next generation MMORPG, built on a lot of valuable lessons learned over the years from successes like EverQuest, carrying it forward to a much better and more exciting set of possibilities. This actually inspired me to quit EQ in favor of playing SWG!

I was not a huge fan of the Star Wars universe, but found myself very compelled and entertained by the intricate crafting, constructing, and unique character profession building in this game. If you even THINK you might enjoy playing in the Star Wars universe in an MMORPG, you cannot miss this!

The Collector's Edition adds some nice items to the basic game, plus gives you some equipment (goggles) that distinguish your character from the others who didn't buy this edition. Of course if none of the styles of goggles suit you, you may elect not to wear them.

It's still alive

There is little point in buying the collector's edition unless you want your character to have goggles and it's very difficult to get hold of the collector's edition these days.

If you want to play Star Wars Galaxies you want the 'Starter Kit'

'Star wars Galaxies Starter Kit'

Although in previous years this MMORPG has been much better the game is still very much worth playing and enjoyable.

I'm under NDA (gotta love beta)
but I can say, wow. The hype hasn't done this game ANY justice. It keeps getting better every day I play it. You must play this game, even if you've never played a MMORPG before.

I don't think so...

Well for me Star Wars has always been one of the most pop candy of all sci-fi's so the game scares me that it will follow in that line, especialy now that they have taken out the dark jedi as being playable.

I was in the Beta

The developers have put a lot of time and really hard work into making this game the best they could. The testers also really put their hearts and souls into refining and improving as much as they could before launch.

The graphics are beautifully rendered, multi-layered and very realistic. The gameplay is mission-based for adventurers, with a player-driven economy for crafters and socialites. (There is no "storyline" per se, as this is an MMORPG and you are expected to create your own stories.) Everyone is necessary, including merchants and entertainers. Combat and skills are layered (not leveled) and there is no way for someone to be completely self-sufficient or buffed up into "god" territory. (Not that characters can't get very skilled and very strong, but there is no way for one character to be the best at everything at once.) There are basic and advanced professions, as well as the ability to design new items, food, clothing, hairstyles, etc. Unlike other MMORPG's, it's not impossible to solo or for a newbie character to play alongside a more advanced character.

All in all, this game was a pleasure for me to test, and I think that the SWG development team is releasing a product that everyone will enjoy thoroughly. You don't have to be a Star Wars geek to enjoy this game!(Granted, I think they'll get an extra level of enjoyment out of the little "surprises" the devs put in. Make sure to look for R2 3PO's pod where they crash-landed on Tatooine!)

I highly recommend this game to Star Wars geeks, MMORPG fanatics and people who just love a detailed, complex, and richly textured RPG.

I was in the final Beta Test for SWG and can tell you this game is going to be wonderful. Granted, even the developers say that it could use a little more content and it WILL be launching with a couple of bugs. But hey, what MMO doesn't? :) But the content coming as patches (player cities, vehicles, mounts) in the next couple of months is alone enough to make it worthwile to get off on the ground floor of this game. Character classes are diverse, the spawn is dynamic, and the worlds are beautifully crafted. DON'T miss out on this one.

Best Online Game Ever Made

I was a beta tester for this game and now that the non-disclosure agrement is over, I can tell you that this is one of the best games to ever come to the market.

The graphics are way above anything I have seen in Everquest© or Asherons Call©. Advancement throught the Star Wars Universe is easily done. There are hundreds of options to chose from for a career ranging from Bounty Hunter, to Weapon Crafter, to Brawler, to Terra Kasi martial arts. To advance in one field you will need to have friends in another field of the game, or be a multiple field character. Throughout the game there will be raids on random cities by either rebel or imperial forces. Depending what side you chose, you can help with the raid or try and stop them. This gives you a feeling like your making a difference in the Star Wars Universe.

I give this game 5 stars for its graphic appeal, gameplay and immersion into the Star Wars Universe.

Highly Adictive
