To get started Rockstar has come on out wit awesome games. Grand theft auto 3 is one of their games and all i heard about it is that it is great. This game has incredible features such as the weapons and gameplay. Goin around blowin up things and robbin banks is what makes this game da BOMB! I think u would have a blast rollin wit dis game. So start da engine and punch the nos button to get to Best Buy before u go home empty handed!

This is the best if you're non-competitive like me and just want to have tons of fun kickin' butt! The missions can be sort of annoying, but then again, you don't have to do them to play the game. It's really fun beating people up and it's easy to do so. Lots of eye candy, lot of effects, and it's just plain hilarious. Great release of tension, cause you can do to those people what you wanted to do to customers all day! Highly recommended for gamer and non-gamers alike!

Old-school brawling fun with a deadly twist

I loved this game. A large corporation takes over the world, and you get to play as a citizen who's just not gonna take it anymore. Stick it to the man by rioting in the streets or going on missions to topple the corporation. Along the way you use a variety of weapons from machine guns, axes, grenade launchers, to your own fists and feet. Plus any objects that aren't nailed down. Control is excellent, I had no problems executing moves. Levels are so large that I often play each one a few times to find stuff that I missed. Graphics are a bit cartoony, but I thought it suited the game. Not so cartoony that there aren't large amount of blood and severed limbs and heads bouncing around though. Not for the kiddies or the squeamish, but for the rest of us it's a good old fashioned beat down with graphic detail courtesy of the M rating.

rent this game first - it's NOT another Grand Theft Auto 3

I have three points to make.

First, before you buy this game, you should rent it or borrow it from someone who already owns it. Based on my experiences, I think the $5 you'll spend to rent it is worth it given the likelihood that you won't like the game. If you rent for $5, then buy it later for $50, then you've spent $55 on an investment you know you are happy to have made. However, if you just spent $50 on the game and don't like it (my prediction), you'll be out $50 unless you take the time to ebay it. Why go through all of that? Just rent it first.

Second, a number of reviewers on Amazon somehow managed to review the game before it was released. How did they know what to write? How could they justify what they said about the game? I certainly don't know, and after being suckered into their positive vibe, I actually *bought* the game. Now that I own it, I'm totally disappointed, to say the least. It is among the dumbest games I've ever played, and it is a far, far cry from Grand Theft Auto 3, which leads me to my third and final point...

The game itself is incredibly boring. For comparison, I've played Grand Theft Auto 3 for hours and hours; finished the game, played and re-played mission after mission, did 476 consecutive fire truck missions... My wife and friends and I all crowd around the TV for hours waiting for a chance to get in on the action, because GTA 3 is *fun*. State of Emergency is not fun. But it's not just that, it was boring after only 2 minutes of game play, and it got worse and worse the more we played. After 30 minutes, I was ready to get rid of the game permanently. My wife, eager to see the latest creation from Rockstar, left the room bored out of her mind (mind you, she's totally into Grand Theft Auto and games in general, but not sucky ones). I brought it a friend's place, another die-hard Grand Theft Auto fan, for him to try. He tried to give it a fair shot, playing State of Emergency for a few hours, but in the end he also agreed that it's a total waste of money.

To summarize, go rent the game first, because there's a decent chance you've bought into the hype, too, and think it's gonna be a great game, but you'll just end up wasting your money and coming back here to write some scathing review about how dumb the game really is, and how annoying it is that 25 people wrote 5-star reviews for a crappy game they may have never even played.

Not nearly as good as the hype

From all the previews I read in magazines I thought this game would be fun. It gets really old really quick. I'll sum it up in two sentences: Every mission you'll find yourself surrounded by a group of enemies. Your only job is to mash buttons as quick as you can to kill them. Very little strategy and very little fun. If you were impressed by GTA 3 prepare to be disappointed by this game.

Seriously Disappointed Game Fanatic

Where to begin? After initially hearing and seeing about the game almost 3 weeks ago I became extremely excited. Who can't with the surreal amt of hype that was surrounding this game. Multiple chars with different moves, 250 possible people on screen at one time, an arsenal of 15 different weapons, 4 vast levels, defaceable property including exploding buildings. It sounded like a video game dream come true. So after waiting very patiently I picked up my reserve copy and rushed home to begin the assault of a lifetime.
BLAH! The only word that can sum up this interesting piece of work is REPETITIVE. The minute I put it in and started playing I had mixed emotions. After about 6-7 hours of playing I was tired of the game. There is no amazing special difference between any of the chars. They all have 4 different move sequences but that is basically it. The graphics are not bad and I think the cartoony style was a nice touch but it could of been a little more detailed and crisp. The stages are not big at all and spending 30 quests on each of them requres a lot of misson repeats. These seem to either revolve around retrieving a box, guarding a store or person, or taking out a massed mob. The first stage, or the mall, will prove this point in its entirety. The explanation for this could be that around 65% of the game was devoted to the random char AI. You will quickly learn that the memory could of been better spent improving on the players abilities or graphics, since you will gun down most of the people you see the minute you see them, you never really get a chance to experience true AI.
In the end this game gets 2 stars and the only reason I gave it a extra star is because I spent 6 hours playing it hoping for some glint of light. This is an amazing disappointment when the hype surrounding this game was nothing short of amazing. My copy goes back tomorrow and I urge you to rent the game before buying it. GTA3 was a fun game rockstar but you fell quite a bit short on this one. Thanks

Good......... But not that good

I am probably the first one to write a review after i own the game. It isnt bad, just it was WAY too overhyped. It is good for what it is. If you liked GTA3 which i surely did, you might find that this doesnt have the same kind of action. I dont like that all the missions are timed, and that you have 185 missions in only 4 different settings. But you should rent the game and if you like it then buy it. Dont buy it expecting it is the next GTA3 because its not. But give it a try and see how you like it

GTA3 is better

Although this game is entertaining, its gets old fast and repetitive. The goals are timed and a little too coached. If your a kid you'll love this game, but if your a little more mature and like a more realistic feel to a game, get GTA3. I wished I had not wasted my money on this game, but with any game... it's a gamble. If you want a hot new game, I suggest MAXIMO. Now there is a fun game with all the goodies.

Just doesnt cut it.

This game is okay at first and you will love the first half hour you play it and enjoy that half hour alot becuase its the only fun you will have with the game. The missions are repeditive, there isnt enough to do, the realism is bad. Stick with GTA3, its the way to go.
