Half-Life "Game of the year"

When I first dl'd the preview from E3, i was simply stunned. The way the water was churned and splashed as good ol' Gordon ran through it, the way light hits the water and glass, simply impressive! And the physics, the gravity gun is about the coolest thing I have ever seen in an fps, ever! In the preview, Freeman runs up and dispatches of 4 guards with only the help of his gravity gun! The story looks intense and very deep, like it'll keep people playing for a long time. I love this game already, and I've never played it. If for nothing else, it's the sequel to HL 1 for God's sake!

***** G** from Oregon said that this game was going to suck, don't know. But anybody who loves TFC that much, but not CS or HL1, has to have some strange reason. Everybody has their opinions, and mine is TFC SUCKS!!!1 And CS: Condition Zero looks like one of the coolest MP games EVER!

I loved the first half life and I love this half life even more. I got the game downloaded the needed valve stuff and plugged in my game key and it worked beautifully. So many unexpected and new things in this game it is impossible to list or describe the joy I had in playing it, I couldn't stop.

Though I find it strange why people complain that you need to connect to the internet to register the game. Who doesn't have an internet connection, and how did they even write a review online? Retard!! Probably trying to play a pirated, downloaded version and are mad because they have to actually buy it to play it... a whole 27 dollars!

Half-life 2 is a perfect state of the art game with no flaws. It is game-of-the-year its even better than Halo 2.
The graphics are amazing everything looks realistic to the point of which a retard might think it is real. The map is well put toghether and the enviroment around looks outstanding.
Half-life 2 has physics never seen in a viedo game. Any object light weighted can be used to throw or gather to use to help slove nifty puzzles and missions. You can move almost any object to cause chain reactions of movement and style. You will be traped with the almost real characters and life like physics.
The story will really keep you playing, to find out the next little bit of whats going on. At the begging of half-life 2 you dont no whats going on so the game traps you to try to find out. There are no Cut-Scenes, you live the cut-scenes you can move around while learning whats going on. Half-life 2 is a gore fest of fun, and is like War of the worlds on a disk. There are no negitives, the graphics are the best any game has to offer, and you will fall in love with the gameplay and story mode of this perfect game. No question it got 5 stars before i played it. If you have a good-running computer do yourself a favor and get Half-life 2.

Once you've registered, this game is AMAZING!

Ok, the installation and registration process is a major schlep, I would say it's almost arrogant and disrespectful from Valve to treat its clients/fans like this. It took me a good few hours to get up and running, I actually read through 2 Asterix books while waiting for the process to execute (And I'm a slow reader).

Once up and running though, this game totally blew me away, on a ATI X800XT card it rocks more than anything I've played this year. I thought Far Cry was the ultimate game, and truth be told I enjoyed the setting more than this, but the realism and atmosphere of this game is absolutely awesome! I can't give an opinion regarding technical problems others have reported. Other than 1 crash somewhere in the middle of the game, it played flawlessly, awesome sound and music, unbelievable graphics and a physics model more real than my breakfast cornflakes.

I must say the idea of shooting slime covered aliens/zombies is getting a bit old. That's one area where I like something like Call of Duty more than this, but the difference between this and other slime-shooters is that this one makes you FEEL and SMELL the slime, and you really feel compassion and camaraderie with the other humans in the game.

From the 3 major single player FPS's this year (imo Far Cry, Doom3, HL2), this one edges the gold medal in my book. Granted I only played Doom3 for a few hours (didn't like the demonic undertones) and it had oodles of atmosphere like only ID can deliver, so others might differ, but I can guarantee anybody who get this game they will be thrilled by the shear realism and quality of design (although, like most FPS's the story won't win anything!)

However, may the FORCE be with you for the installation and registration process, you're gonna need it!

Insanely good game. The graphics are absolutely amazing. Make sure you have a good computer to play games with or you are wasting your time getting the game. The game has one of the best story lines, and really good action. Better than the first one, but the same type of game play. There are really good guns in the game also. I just didnt like the ending much, I wished the game could have longer at least just a bit. But there is nothing wrong with the game, it flows through perfectly. If your a PC gamer, this game is highly recommended.

And for all the people saying oh Steam sucks, its such a hassle, thats funny because, I installed this WHOLE entire game ALONG with Counter-Strike Source in a about 10-15 minutes and was playing RIGHT afterwards. So yea. Its easy to install and use. Steam is good.

Overall this game is great. Get it.

Simply Amazing

Where to begin? Half Life 2 is great for several reasons. Visually, it's stunning. It's got an amazing physics engine that adds a healthy dose of realism to the game environment. The gameplay is smooth and familiar, with your standard FPS-type controls.

The single player story line is well done. The AI is even better than the first HL, and that's saying a lot. The soundtrack is sure to get the adrenaline pumping, too.

The multiplayer mode is rather good, also. Plus, it seems that everybody is playing; I had no trouble finding several servers in my neighborhood with pings under 50.

Also, HL2 includes "Counter-Strike: Source," a multiplayer game based on the same engine. I played this for the first time today, and I'm already hooked. It reminds me an awful lot of the "Action" mod for Quake 2 and subsequent similar mods for other game engines.

A word of advice: Update your audio and video drivers before playing this game! While I had been happily playing many other games with my old drivers, I couldn't even get HL2 to function without updating my video drivers. (I went to NVIDIA's 66.93 driver.) The sound wouldn't work at all until I updated my SB Live! drivers, too. Then, after I thought I had things under control, I bought a new monitor that allowed me to use the DVI output from my video card. Well, that caused new and different issues, and I have to upgrade to a beta video driver to fix them. (NVIDIA's 67.02 beta seems to do the trick for me.) Bottom line: Make sure your drivers are up to date!

This game is worth every penny. I expect to get many, many hours of gaming out of it.

I remember hearing a couple of years ago that 3 of my favorite games were to have sequels in the near future - Half Life, Deus Ex, and Doom. They were all three supposed to come out at the same time, and my mind was spinning as to which I would purchase. I was positive that the Deus Ex sequel would be my favorite. Luckily, it was the first one to be released. Unfortunately, it was released with a fizzle, and now the company that made it, Ion Storm, has closed down. A couple of months later, we get our hands on Doom 3. While still hugely popular, it has a lot of problems, and can barely run on most machines. It looks pretty though. Enter Half-Life 2 - it's what the other two games wished they could be.

The graphics in Half-Life 2 are the best I've ever seen. The character models are unbelievably realistic. The action is non-stop-balls-to-the-wall. I remember playing the first Half-Life, and loved the way they linked all the levels together to seem like one big level. Well, in this game, they have perfected this concept. All the level transitions make perfect sense, and were it not for the loading times, you wouldn't even know it was another level. I don't want to get into the story.. you should play it yourself, but I will say that this game is a treat to play. It's exciting as hell, and it's got my vote for the best game ever made. If you liked Half-Life, you'll love this sequel.

I want to mention Steam now. I hate hate hate the idea of having to run a seperate application that connects to the internet just to play these games. It's obviously a very controversial subject, but I should say that it was no problem at all to get it all up and running. It took only half as long for Steam to decrypt the game files as it did to install the game. I'm pretty sure that updating Counter Strike Source took way longer. Anyway, now that it's up and running, I find Steam to be a convenient way to connect to the multiplayer Half-Life / Half-Life 2 games. They're all listed right there in one little box, and can be played quickly and easily at the click of a button. So, if you're holding off buying this because of what other users have said about Steam, then I say go ahead and buy it. I think most of the negative hype around Steam is pretty overblown.

One more thing - there is a 3rd party mod for HL2 called HL2 Capture the Flag. Get it! It's awesome!

Simply The Best!

This is the best FPS I have ever played. I have a pretty
upper end set of specs on my computer and am running everything
maxed out and it looks and runs great. I understand the game
runs just as well on lower spec systems as long as you don't
fall below their recommeneded specs.

The physics are pretty real world, the storyline holds
up and it's a good problem solving workout to boot. Nit-picks-
The AI of allies could be better (like 'hey stupid, don't just
stand there catching bullets!') Enemy AI is pretty good tho...
Once they spot you, you have to 'do the do' pretty quick.
Storyline disappointed me at the end, but now I understand
the next mission pack (or HL3?) picks up where you end. Looking
forward to more!!

Half-Life 2 now over a year old

Half Life 2 may be okay for a game that's over a year old. But the problem is that the general public has never played it. It's aging FAST. When (or if) it finally comes out, it will be rather dated and unimpressive.

The other problem is that the enthusiasm for this game peaked about eight months ago and has been in decline ever since. Timing is very important in game releasing and I think HL2 missed the mark by a long shot

I hope it will come out, and I probably will purchase it. If so, I will revise my review accordingly. As for now, it is turning out to be one of the biggest disappointments in recent PC game history.
