NOVEMBER 1. Jeez, just when I was thinking HL2 will release on September 1, they do this to us all. This game is turning out to be a real Keyser Soze. When, if ever, will it be released. After playing Doom3 and getting bored after ripping the millionth imp to shreds, I think "thank god I can play HL2 in September" I can understand the source code theft and all, but PLEASE, are they redesigning EVERYTHING. They've been doing nothing but work on HL2 since the original, and I'm getting sick of all the release dates, maybe Amazon should change it to "Indefinite" It really hurts very badly to see the release date slipping away like this.
Boring, been there done that.

This game will blow the original half life away! Oh wait.... Unreal, Unreal2, 2003, UT, Quake 2, Quake 3, DuesEX, and even the "when its done" trailer for Duke Forever ALREADY did that.
hmm big surprise. Unreal2 dissapointed. *snif* Doom 3 will fill the void, and one day fan boys will forget why halflife ever sold.
Delayed Again?

I think it is poor practice for a game developer to release a data in which I may purchase their game only to retract it. Whose idea was it to retract that date and why do they still have their job? If this game isn't released on Nov 1st. I simply won't be purchasing it. I was expecting this game on a certain date and it was not delivered, by no fault lying of Amazon.com's. So far, My rating of 1 Star in both categories stand.
HL2... Will it match HL1?

I haven't played HL2 yet, but I'm going to be the first to play it. The first Half Life was the best FPS ever. I just hope they don't screw it up by getting too Quake on us...
Let's all just keep our fingers crossed that it doesn't ruin the memories of the first HL.
dude, this sucks

hey all. i just thought i'd add my say, being an amateur computer user, instead of any of these clever computer experts.
frankly, i'm annoyed. i think that valve's paranoia about half life 2 being cracked and modded etc is OTT. they have to come to accept that, no matter what they do, someone who is cleverer than them WILL take it to pieces.
i also agree with some of the other reviewers; that the enthusiasm for the game is dwindling now. i don't believe that that will mean that when the game is FINALLY released that the sales won't be phenominal, far from it. i just feel that valve have fallen flat on their face while trying to find the opportune moment.
hell; i'm still going to buy it. if it ever gets to england. which is.... likely but probably quite a lot later than america.
oh yeah, and to the guys that thought it might be fun/useful/profitable to hack valve and steal early source code, bringing the date back further, cheers. not.

OK so the original release date for HL2 was supposed to be September 2003 and here we are over a YEAR LATER and still no release date has been given. ( I know there have been dates given but these change so often that they're almost totally useless) I mean lately there have been dates given ranging from early summer to the newly annouced date of Nov 23rd (I'm writing this from the UK folks).
I can only think that this constant delay from sierra/valve will end up as a very negative element and will almost certainly count for poorer review marks in the various computer magazines when (if) it finally sees the light of day.
I loved Half Life when it was originally released and have played it many times since. Sadly I'm now against the idea of purchasing this game (HL2) because in the end due to the constant delays I'm sure it won't be long at all before a better looking alternative arrives on the market.
A final tip for the marketing department at sierra: Guys if you do plan to release software in future might I suggest picking a release date and actually sticking to it??
no competition

If anyone thinks that Halo 2 will be better than this, they should be shot. This game will easily set the standard for all first-person shooters in the future. Besides having top-of-the-line graphics (which are a standard nowadays), it's physics system and what i hear about it's storyline are top-notch as well. If there is only one game you buy this year, make it HL2.
Welcome back Mr. Freeman!

Greetings!
As they say in the gaming arena--If you haven't played Half Life yet, you're either a nomad living in Afganistan or a father of 6 kids who is too busy with too many things in life ;)
So, now, Half Life 2 is just round the corner (hopefully, Sierra does not ditch us again this time), all PC gamers the world over (including India) are holding their breath tight and in preparations updating or upgarding their RAM, Graphics Cards, HDD or even Moniter resolution.
If this game happens to live just half of it's expectation, it would be one of the best games released this year. Thanks for reading.
I too have seen the BETA

Due to my fiances connection with the media, I too have seen the inside BETA version of HL2. There are still a few bugs that they need to work out (So I am told) but believe me, this will be worth waiting for. If you loved the first one as much as I did, you will absolutely love it this time around. You are going to want to invest in some RAM, a decent video card, and at least a SB live sound card to get the full experience.
They aren't going to be able to keep this one on the shelves....GUARANTEED!
i can't rate, i can only give my opinion (forced to rate)

I find it funny how someone posted from valve with information that was supposed to be incompany knowledge, and i like how he said they removed the n00by carbine lol, I love how Valve with their Steam constantly tries to change CS so n00bs can have an easier time. Cry Cry i keep getting awped, i've only been playing for a week please change it.
Valve: sure we will take a staple of the game and make it terrible so you the n00b can play better, and BTW the vets don't get their way thats why they have been playing so long. I'm sorry Anyway HL2 should be amazing but im not going to sayanything till i play it. I have seen my CS degrade so badly over the past few months that i can't put a finger on how good HL2 is gonna be. Yes the graphics will be amazing and yes the AI will blow your mind but if the game play is changed it won't be the same. The bob in the original HL was perfect but i have read that the bob has changed to a more realistic accuracy affecting bob, so i can't say anything about whether or not the game is going to be fun (isn't that important fun? if a game isn't fun its not a game its an annoyance). Granted HL was easy because of the bob but if they have change an aspect of the game that has made it so easy to mod with things such as natural selection, the specialists, and vampire slayer, etc... then they should reevaluate what they are doing. I personally will purchase it regardless, because im a fan of HL and its mods and if the first was as moddable as it was then the second will follow suit hopefully :\
