I love this game! I am really addicted to this one. This is really an open racer. If there is traffic, instead of there being only 1 root, you can turn down alleys or other roads. I am not going to comment much about the features, someone has already probably written them, but i have 2 problems with this game. 1. The mapped are of Chicago is too small. 2. There are too little cars Besides that i really love this game, and you should buy this game!

A Very Good Game

"Midtown Madness" is a very good game. It's fun. Well, let me tell you - if there weren't a few drawbacks the game would have been a classic. The graphics are good. It is cool to see your car getting slowly turned into a piece of an old metal. However, everything looks a bit blocky. And the water is very badly made. Gameplay is cool, multiplayer is AWESOME (I love the 'Cops and Robbers' option). Overall, the game is good, but it could have been better.

Fasten your seat belt... seriously!

Midtown Madness is the only software title I've ever purchased that keeps me and my son going back for more and more and more (for almost two years straight). It's also the only title I will never uninstall. A metal goes to the genious' at Angel Studios for coming to the obvious conclusion that driving in circles is a drag but having free high octane access to the streets of America's greatest city (Chicago) would be a blast and Midtown Madness is simply that, blowing away every other racing title off the road. And a big high five and kudos to Microsoft for putting it in the box so I could buy it. Why? Because it has been brilliantly injected with a mondo dose of what every red blooded American driver wants, freedom! Pile drive your way down side streets, alleys or Lakeshore Drive at 100 mph plus during rush hour! Destroy every mail box, phone booth and street sign it sight all the while driving poor unsuspecting citizens from the sidewalk just to listen to them scream! There's no blood, no death, no four letter words or flying middle fingers just pure unrestrained fun everytime you get behind the wheel of a wide range of four wheelers like a Caddy, Bug, Semi, city bus or Mustang (just to name a few). It ran great when all I had was an ATI 4mb video board (my system is PII, 450mhz), but now that I've upgraded to an ATI 32mb board the visual MADNESS is nearly lethal. And when I've got a half dozen of Chicago's finest flashing those pretty reds in my rearview mirror, doing everything in their power to ram me off the busy city streets, I just know I'll be spending the night in cyber jail for any number of serious moving violations, and isn't that what it's all about!

There are better racing games.

Microsoft's Midtown Madness is a racing game based in Chicago. The premise is good. You race around the open streets of Chicago with no closed courses, but the game fails miserably in many key aspects.

Gameplay - The gameplay, at best, is shoddy. There are only a handful of vehicles (some of which you need to unlock), a couple of race modes, and one city - Chicago. To be fair, the city of Chicago is huge. There are numerous landmarks such as Soldier Field, and you can run over a lot of different objects such as mailboxes, streetlights, and garbage cans, but that is where the compliments stop. As you compete in different race modes to unlock cars, you realize just how terrible the control is. Faster cars are almost impossible to get to turn correctly without smashing into oncoming traffic or flipping over. Try to pick a slower car and your opponents whip right by you with ease. On top of that, some of the vehicles are absolutely useless. The bus, for instance, resembles a giant slug. Damage modeling is terrible. Smash head on into an oncoming car going 70 MPH and you'll drive away as though nothing happened. Cops are more reckless than you are. They'll smash into oncoming traffic without hesitation. It's almost funny. Almost. Not to mention they have super cars, which go a good 25 MPH faster than any of your vehicles. Just plain awful. Terrible controls and minimal gameplay options really bury this game.

Gameplay - ** out of *****

Graphics - The graphics aren't much better than the gameplay. Most of the buildings in Chicago look the same; the other cars, which make up the traffic in the game, are dull. There appear to be only about 8 or so different models. These cars show NO damage no matter how many times you smash them. Although the graphics aren't the worst, they are far from the best.

Graphics - *** out of *****

Sound - Sound is nothing special. The engine sounds are good as well as the cops' siren, but there is no in game music. You do however, have the option to listen to your own CD's, but that's not enough to save this game.

Sound - *** out of *****

Bottom Line - Microsoft's Midtown Madness can provide a quick racing fix, but the fun doesn't last. There are plenty of other better racing games out there.

really cool game!!

This is one of the best games I've ever played. You can go mad in the streets of Chicago, unlock new cars by winning races, just cruise around testing your vehicle, download more cars off the internet including: Farrari F50, Ellinor from Gone in 60 seconds, aeroplane, ford excursion, chevorlet suburban, lego car, and many more, with lots being created every two or three days! This is the best game for driving like a blind man

i think this game is really fun. There are alot of cars to choose from, and u can also download some from the internet. The only reason i gave it a 4 is because you only drive around 1 city. Midtown madness2 has 2 cities and they are much bigger and better.

Fun! At first......

Well, what can I say. They had a great idea over at Microsoft. But, I think they rushed this game into the stores to fast.

The concept is awesome...no tracks, just cruising the city streets. Go anywhere you want !

But, the cars drive like, well, let's just say they're real bad. Such a limited selection too. Although, on an up note, they look really good. But, the AI (computer cars) are stupid.

Congrats to MS for the idea. Rats for the outcome. For driving sims, look elsewhere...(like to Need for Speed 3/4).

Just driving around without racing is pretty fun

I've been playing this game for months, and despite the several different race modes I still like "Cruise" mode best. You can just wander around the city, cause accidents, and get chased around by cops. After a long day at work or classes, its great to start up the game, get the Freightliner, and go ramming through crowded intersections :) There are some very fun single-player cheat codes out there for it, worth looking up on the net after you've played for a while. The only thing that seems kind of annoying is how difficult it is to get the Panoz GTR-1. I broke down and hex-edited the save file to qualify for it. It was worth the effort ;-)

Awesome

This game is so realistic and fun. The 3D graphics are awesome. I have played it at a friend's house. It is cool how you can drive in racing mode or FREE/TEST DRIVE mode! If you are good enough by winning races, you unlock a bus and a truck! I totally recommend this game to peop,e who love graphics, cars, and/or racing! You can just use the keyboard, you do not NEED a joystick or steering wheel. Another cool feature: when you are driving, to accelorate you press the up arrow. And you don't have to hold it to keep going the same speed! to slow down, press the down arrow. You can go really fast. THIS IS THE BEST GAME!
