Finally, Modern Warefare...

Graphics
Pros:
Absolutely top notch; while not quite photo realistic, the graphics are definitely in the top 5 best looking games of 2007. Everything, EVERYTHING is detailed down to the trivial.

Cons:
The only "bad" looking things would be the characters faces, some environments have messy details.

Sound:
Pros:
The sound of bullets whizzing by, team mates screaming, explosions and blood curdling death screams never get old; especially if you have surround sound! No complaints with the sound at all - though its hard to screw up this aspect of a video game.

Cons: None really

Controls:
Pros:
If you've played any of the Call of Duty games then you will be vastly familiar with the control scheme. In fact, the controls follow the typical FPS console style - so players should have no problems adjusting to it.

Cons: None that I can find.

Game play:
Pros:
Overall, the game play is pretty tight. Levels transition smoothly into the next, and the fire fights are so intense your heart will be pounding, your hands will be sweating. There will be plenty of moments where you will feel hugely outnumbered and stuck in a corner, flanked and suppressed. I strongly recommend playing the game on either the Hardened or Veteran difficulty - this will stretch the game out considerably; the two easier difficulties are WAY to easy. On the harder difficulties the enemies are much more unpredictable and their bullets do much more damage.

Cons: The campaign is really short; something that seems to be a re-occurring thing with shooters these days. However, if you play the game on the harder difficulties you will experience the "true" campaign.
Also, there is no co-op! This is not excusable, especially since we are in the 7th generation of video gaming; co-op (both off and online) should be a standard. In fact, 4 player co-op should be standard. BIG failure on the game developers part.

As far as a storyline goes:
Pros:
Um, well you get to play in a modern warfare setting.

Cons:
There's not much for a storyline at all. In most FPS there is hardly any story line depth. The just of it: you play various characters in a war setting.

Multi-player:
Pros:
This is the meat and potatoes of Call of Duty 4. The campaign is merely practice for the online. This IS the reason to get this game. No matter what game type you enter, the battles are always intense and hardcore. You can call in air strikes and helicopter support, and each map really feels like a battlefield. The game types range from standard free-for-all deathmatch to team deathmatch, capture the flag, secure the base, and a few objective based missions.

Also, the online portion incorporates some RPG elements. Every match you participate in (if you get kills) earns you Experience points that go towards your ranking (they use army ranks), and your weapons experience. The more you use a weapon the more exp you gain for it. There are also specific challenges you can partake in during online matches. Fulfilling these challenges earns you more exp. Furthermore, there are also different "perks" that you can earn as well; such as Juggernaut (more health), "last stand" (before you die you have the opportunity to pull out your pistol and make your last stand), and a slew of other juicy ones that add much replay value. You can also select between different classes (sniper, assault, heavy weaponry etc..), and you can even switch classes in a match. You can also create your own custom class.

Cons:
Sadly, online co-op is missing...

Overall, if you are into FPS and you have Xbox live, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is THE game to get. The campaign is quite fun as well, but it does not justify a $60 purchase alone.

Truly Amazing

I really can't say enough good things about this game. This is the best first-person shooter I've ever played, and one of the most unique.

The most striking part of the game is its photorealism. You really must have a Hi-Def widescreen to get the full graphic experience, but even if you don't, the graphics are still the best on any 360 game. Lighting effects, shadows, muzzle flashes, explosions, etc are all incredibly rendered.

You can also assume many different combat roles just as a normal soldier could. You can take out aircraft with Stinger missles, use Javelin rockets, RPGs, M203 grenade launchers, and even control the weapons of an AC-130 gunship.

The latter experience on the AC-130, I must say, was the best part of the game. The developers obviously studied real guncamera footage just like the kind the US military releases to the media. With the black and white infrared guncamera, you can take out enemies using all the aircraft's weapons, and that experience is so eerily realistic.

Sound quality is top-notch. I played it with Dolby Digital Surround sound, and you can clearly hear your teamates moving around you, rounds impacting on the terrain and walls, etc.

The only weakness of the game that I can think of is that since the environments are very elaborate, it's sometimes difficult to determine where you are being ordered to go, and where to perform tasks such as planting explosives, etc. But this is such a minor problem and you can always work around it if you pay attention to your compass.

All said, this is in my opinion, the best COD game to date and I am very glad they got past the WWII settings. I do hope that the next COD game will take place during the Vietnam War because that's an underrepresented setting, and I think the historical framework of the COD series is a great concept and can bring alot of awareness about what these conflicts were all about.

Game of the year! Better than Halo 3

One of the best games of 2007

*Singleplayer: 9.6/10
-Sound: With a great soundtrack, good (occasionally repetitive) voice-acting, and realistic weapon noises, it sounds like a real war. Good soundtrack as well.
-Controls: Slightly better than average, fits everything in nicely.
-Graphics: Amazing, nothing else on the 360 looks as realistic as CoD4 does, not even Bioshock. It runs smoothly at 60 FPS, too.
-Gameplay: Although there's nothing too new in CoD4's singleplayer, Infinity Ward presents multiple scenarios to go through, ranging from stealth missions to intense street fights. It also comes with a "Clancyish" plot, keeping you pretty interested. The most obvious problem is the length of the campaign, lasting about 5 hours. But then there are intel (laptops) to collect, which after you get so many can unlock cheats (most of which are useless) such as "Ragtime" (making it feel like an old silent film) to "Slo-mo" (which is pretty obvious).
*Multiplayer: 9.5/10
-It's hard to imagine that the same people that made the horrible mess that was CoD2's multiplayer would succeed in CoD4. They did succeed, and the result is a multiplayer that challenges Halo 3 as the Xbox Live leader. Persistent ranking, customizable weapons, most of it has been done before. But it's "Perks" that make the difference. Perks are pretty much ways to customize how you play online. For example, the "Double Tap" Perk will cause your weapon to fire faster, or "UAV Jammer" will prevent enemies from seeing you on the UAV Radar. In addition to Perks you can customize your weapons as you continue to level up with them, and you can create your own custom classes (instead of choosing from pre-made ones) and mix and match different Perks to get the perfect soldier. This game is a must if you have Xbox Live. It's just about as good as Halo 3.

*Summary: Singleplayer is very short, but well worth it. Multiplayer challenges Halo's. It's like a Tom Clancy game, yet better.

FINAL SCORE: 9.5/10

INCREDIBLE

I started playing this game last night and I couldn't stop. I haven't played much of the campaign yet, but the online play is spectacular. The realism is amazing; physics are sweet. I've been playing Halo for the past month and I forgot how much fun a realistic war game can be. I was a huge fan of COD2, but I think that they really pushed the envelope this time. The graphics look fantastic in the online play and they somehow managed to keep it 60 fps, even with everything going on. Another cool thing about the online play is that there's a constant rank progression. If you've played Halo then you know that it takes a long time to see some of the higher ranks, but in COD4 you progress through the ranks continuously. I made Corporal after only about an hour playing online. Of course, the number one thing about this game is the sound effects. This is something that the makers of COD have always done well, but I think that it's even better in this title. When you crank up the surround sound, you'll feel the bullets wipping past your head....SWEET!

Buy this game and you won't regret it!!!
I noticed that there was a couple of 1 star reviews on this game, but they seem to have been written by retards.

This game is definitely worth getting, especially on the Xbox 360. The campaign is short, but it is still very good with lots of replay value. The achievement system really adds to it.

This Call of Duty sets itself apart from the prequels of the game. The first three were WW2 based first person shooters. Call of Duty 4 is a present/futuristic first person shooter. The plot of the campaign is basically you're trying to kill a dictator which you suspect has nuclear weapons and is ready to bomb the face of the Earth out. You are the US Marines or the S.A.S (Special Air Service) trying to stop them.

Graphics; this game really presents some very good graphics. It's not a WOW type of graphic like Gears of War but it is still outstanding. There is not any frame rate issues from what I have experienced in my 5 hours of campaign and multiplayer. I give the graphic department a 9/10.

A.I (Artificial Intelligence) and gameplay; this game AI and gameplay varies for each difficulty. On the easiest level, you are pretty much invincible if you don't make any stupid mistakes but that veteran, the hardest level, it's a suicide mission. The enemies aren't that smart but know how to kill you. The controls are easy to learn and the gameplay is very smooth. I give the gameplay a 8/10 for SINGLE PLAYER.

Multiplayer; this gameplay is more realistic since you have humans playing against you. There are several maps you can play on and ranks you can earn to get better weapons and such. The multiplayer is intense!
I give it a 10/10.

So you have to buy this game. I'd just buy it for the multiplayer since it's so well done.

Hope this helps!

Game of the Year Material

Call of Duty has been a World War II shooter series made by Infinity Ward. Their series have won multiple awards in their 1st and 2nd series. But ever since the 3rd installment released, many have wondered what Infinity Ward would do to change the series.
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is a the newest, and hopefully not the last, installment of the COD series. This time the developers have brought a whole new world of military shooters to gamers. This time the game is based on Modern Military combat rather than World War II combat.
The game features Single Player and Multiplayer game modes. The single player campaign is simply amazing. Right off the bat you will realize how amazing the levels look. The story revolves around the S.A.S. Military group and the U.S. Marines. The campaign is no doubt stunning and fun, but sometimes you will find yourself lost and looking for direction. Yes, there is a given compass to "guide" you to your objective, but a black strip with a yellow dot only goes so far. This is a minor problem but it will sometimes cause frustration.
The online multiplayer is great as well. If you are looking for a great online shooter, look no further. The online multiplayer for COD4 brings aspects from the single player together into a fun social package. The online multiplayer features Classes. (Assault, Spec-Ops, Sniper etc.) But perhaps even better than the given classes is the Create-a-Class feature. Where you can specialize in special perks(skills). RPG aspects brought to a shooter is something few companies have done. But COD4 is praised for this.
Call of Duty 4 is Game of the Year material. If you are a fan of military simulation, shooters or just have a Xbox 360, COD4 is a must have game.

OVERVIEW
PROS
- Stunning Visuals

Best FPS for Console Yet....BF2 Fans Will Love it!

Call of Duty 4 is quiet possibly the most graphically advanced, spectacular FPS game to ever hit the console, any console. Coming from a PC gaming background, and being a huge fan of games like Half Life 2, Battlefield 2 and other amazing games, I'm always skeptical when I see a game like this get so much hype. However, this game EARNS it. The graphics are as intense as can be (in HD on an HDTV ofcourse) and the multiplayer action is fast and furious. You basically work up the ranks by earning points, earning new unlocks, new options, etc in a similar way that you would earn rank in battlefield 2. Leaderboards track stats, you can view your own statistics from game to game, and overall.

It WILL take a while to get used to the xbox controller vs a mouse/keyboard...but that's somethign all of us PC gamers have to deal with. With practice, you'll get better, and the game will become even more fun. Perhaps Xbox will release a controller much like the PS3's "Frag X" mouse like controller, but time will tell.

Enjoy!

Right off the bat: I will not compare this game to Halo 3. Or any other, for that matter. This is a review of this game, and this game only.

Now, on to the goods.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is an exquisite example of what these next-gen consoles are capable of. The graphics are spectacular; environments, character models, gun models, explosions, and all others are rendered with extremely high quality. While it's obvious that it's still a video game, the graphics lend a high degree of realism that helps with the immersion. The physics are also improved, and shooting through walls is now possible and something worth trying to do; yes, it does depend on gun type and wall thickness and material.

The single-player is solid; I have yet to finish it but so far I'm satisfied. You control at least two different characters: an SAS solder named MacTavish and a Marine named Johnson; others may come later. Veteran is a good challenge for practically anybody, and the other difficulties are scaled accordingly.

It's the multiplayer where the game really shines. The experience system is based on kills, assists, and "challenges" that you complete by getting X number of kills with this gun or calling in X number of UAVs. The higher your rank, the more customization options you have; at level 4 you gain the ability to create custom classes with your unlocked weapons and add-ons.

The maps seem fairly balanced and are pretty fun; of course, everyone will find their own preferences. Matchmaking is usually pretty quick and games are fun.

The one problem I have with the matchmaking is that it seems to not really care about rank. It just finds open games and throws you in regardless of the fact that you're level 1 fighting level 42's; the system balances the teams out but it doesn't make a terrible amount of sense to me. However, this is not enough to detract a star or even to mar the shine of the game.

Overall, if you enjoy shooters of any kind, this is a must-add to your library. Stellar graphics, solid gameplay and controls, and spot-on multiplayer make this a great "after-holidays" buy.
