"Can't put it down! Wish there was more than 24 hours a day!" That's what my husband says about it ever since I bought him this game as a birthday gift! So here you have it folks, my husbands mistress "Call of Duty 4"!

I bought this for my husband, who is a HALO devotee. Well, he said that CALL TO DUTY 4 may be even better than HALO, and that is quite a review from him. We both think that the graphics in this game are maybe the best we've seen so far. GREAT GAME!!!

All I can say is, Wow!

I haven't played any online game since Counter Strike. I wanted to get back into the online gaming community, but fear that I don't have a good computer, or that I am getting too old to be playing (I'm 24 years old). I have been following Call Of Duty 4 (the 360 version) for some time since its release. The main appeal is the "modern" combat aspect. However, when I first got my 360, I played Call of Duty 2 (not online) and did not really like the game.

So finally I got my tax refund back. I asked myself what I wanted? I broke my 92FS (a handgun like the M9) some time ago (the slide broke after about 10K rounds), and I was deciding to go buy another one. Then I said to myself I am not too fond of starting to shoot again. I liked shooting, but I fear I am losing my hearing from firing too much (even though I wear hearing protections). Why shoot real weapons that are nosiy, loud, possibly deadly (the slide broke from my 92FS scared me and I thought I lost a finger at first), and dangerous? So I was on the hunt for a "virtual" experience. Then Call of Duty 4 came to mind. I went and bought with one year of xbox Live and went home and connected. From the first moment, my thoughts were, "Wow!"

Here are some things I like and don't like:

* Nice online community. I thought I was in for real troubles. I found that the online community is helpful and most people you meet online are fun to be with. I feel the news about the online world is completely exaggerating. I am 24 and I found the people to be nice to you and that most of them aren't much older or younger than you are. I have one real life friend who plays this game, but most of the time, I play with people I don't know and they are nice 99% of the time.

* You can level up by scoring kills, and playing the game online. With each level up, you get new weapons, perks (I'll explain later), and game modes.

* You get awesome weapons that you can customize. After so many kills with a particular weapon, you get new attachments and camo. For example, if you get 25 kills with the M16, you get a Red Dot to make shooting easier. Also, if you get 25 headshots, you get a new gun camo. You also get a cool gold plated gun - on certain weapons - after completing the kills/headshots for all weapons of that category.

* Single player is awesome! The story line is awesome and at two points in the story you can fly an AC130 (truly great) and be a Marine door gunner. I cannot tell you how exciting it is to join the "Mile High Club." If you don't know, the Mile High Club is an achievement given to those who complete the last level on veteran mode (the hardest game mode).

* Online Perks. You can set up to three perks. As with weapons, after a certain level, you unlock a new perk. Perks ranges from increased health, increase damages, ability to sprint, drop a grenade when you're dead, and so fort. Each perk can be used depending on your playing style. Some people complain about the perks online, however, they are all quite fun and I recommend switching them up to suit your playing style.

* Call in airstrikes, helo, and provide UAV support. The game is all about teamwork. On average, you will find one or two good people on your team who attempts to work as a team. Basically, after so many kills you can call in airstrikes and give helo support (you only call them in, but you don't actually control or fly them). On hardcore mode - a mode where friendly fire is on and damages are increased - it is almost essential to communicate with your team as you call in airstrikes and helos.

* Graphics are awesome. Honestly, I can't believe how far along we've come in computer graphics. The graphics are liquid fast in the game. On a hdtv, your eyes will bleed from the beauty. Not only that, on multiplayer you can hide in tall grass and so fort to avoid detection from your enemies. It is truly a bonus from the old games of simply running around and shoot. Now you actually have to be careful and think in 3D as you try to make you way through the ranks.

* Respawn can either be a blessing or a curse. Most of the time, you respawn away from the enemy. Unlike other games where you respawn at one point, Call of Duty 4 attempts to spawn you at the best location to prevent "spawn camping." Most of the time it works; the enemy team takes over your spawn, then you respawn on the other side of the map without fear. Other times, you're not so lucky. You might respawn at odd locations. Sometimes it takes me a moment to realize exactly where I respawn and try to get a fix on my location. During this time, you might accidentally run into an enemy. Also, sometimes you get unlucky and spawn in an airstrike area where you will die - possibly twice.

* Grenades, flashbangs, and stun don't affect your teammate. On regular game modes - except in Hardcore - you don't have to worry about hurting your team mates. This is good for beginners who often make the mistake of killing his own teammates which can result in rather unhappy times.

* Killcam. This is awesome. After you get killed, you can watch how the enemy killed you. This is ideal to get a fix on hard to see snipers and you can easily avoid making the same error.

Overall, it is a great game. The single player is far better than Call of Duty 2 that I played. I say get this game if you like Counter Strike or Rainbow Six 3 series. Right now, I recommend getting the Game of the Year edition since you get the free map pack - otherwise you'll have to spend roughly 8 dollars to get the new map pack.

Great if you have xbox live

I'll make this short, this game is graphically fantastic and may be one of the best first person shooter games ever made for any system. Having said that, the actual missions can be accomplished in 5-10 hours depending how good you are. This game was made for xbox live and is worth every penny if you have it. If you don't have xbox live you might as well rent it and save yourself $50.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

Official Rating: 5/5

Finally, I'm posting my Call of Duty 4 review, I wrote this back in January for a blog I have. Let me start off by saying two things, I will compare this to other top FPS's like Halo, and this is not your father's first person shooter, the guys at Infinity Ward have just about perfected the FPS genre with this installment in the COD series. The graphics and real life effects make this much more in depth than Halo with a texture system that rivals Crysis in my personal opinion. When Halo 3 came out I said nothing will top it; needless to say I was wrong. Modern Warfare includes a driving plotline full of twists that keeps you guessing. Weapon systems that are near perfection, and four difficulty settings to keep you entertained for years. As I've said, you have four difficulty settings: Recruit (for N00bs!), Regular (for a mildly difficult and satisfying experiance), Hardened (for those who like life rough) and my favorite....Veteran (for those who are about to die, we salute you). Its obvious when you take on Veteran you are going to die, alot; its easily two or three times harder than Legendary in Halo 3 which according to myself, fellow gamers, and professional reviewers this is the games only problem, its extrordinarily hard and you die quickly so get accustomed to hiding and dieing, but when you beat it, it is the single most satifying experience in your gaming career that is only trumped when you beat the epiloge mission on verteran and achieve the "mile high club" acheivement. The weapon system is basic yet complete at the same time, you have an array of weapons not typically found in most games, but not fictional weapons like in Timeshift or Halo. They also include two real life gernade types, your standard frag and something called a flashband, which is used to temporarily blind and deffen your enemies so you can strike without getting killed. You can wield two guns, four of each gernade type, as well as whatever else is in your default arsenal that changes from mission to mission such as night vision goggles, airstrikes, claymores, gernade launchers and your standard C4. The sniper system is uniqe in the fact that its not the easiest thing on Earth, in games like Halo and Timeshift, a monkey could get a headshot with its eyes closed, in COD4 you have to work for it because it has a realistic system that simulates movement and breathing while looking down the scope, keeping it fairly unsteady with the ability to steady by holding your breath, much like in real life. Its also unique in the fact that they mislead you in a sense about the games main antagonist and you have two main characters instead of one and several supporting characters. All in all , this game is worth your time, and money. Its challenging, driving, and the absolute perfection of the FPS genre.

What more needs to be said that already hasn't? Amazing graphics, interface and, most importantly, re-playability.

Better than Halo 3

The following review pertains specifically to the single-player mode. I have XBOX Live, but I have not played the multiplayer version of this game - I've been having too much fun on single planer!

It's difficult to describe the game any less than incredible. The graphics are pristine (XBOX 360 w/HDMI, 32" LCD HDTV). The controls are very simple to learn. There are varying levels of difficulty that makes the game playable to a majority of people. I like how I'm able to go back into Arcade Mode (after you beat the game) and replay different levels - earning points toward "high scores."

Future improvements: Make the single-player mode longer! I finished the single-player game (recruit mode) in about 5 hours. That's way too short - so I shall be going back to a more challenging level. Other than this, there really are no other complaints.

Awsome FPS.

COD4 is by far the best FPS game there is. It combines the intensity of fire fights with the modern technology of UAV's, air strikes and even an attack helicopter to unleash havoc upon your opponents. It's hard to go back to any other FPS game after playing this game simply because COD4 has raised the bar to a whole new level. I used to be a die hard fan of Rainbow six but after a dose of COD4 Rainbow six just seem to be in slow mo. They really need to go back to the drawing board if they are going to keep their fan or obtain new ones.

CoD4 Good, Online play BAD!

I have played this game for way, way too much time and am about ready to toss it in the garbage. Graphics are superb, story is ok for local play. But let's face it, we buy this game to go online and play against real people, not a computer program. Here's where the problem lies.
Infinity Ward/Activision (I'm not sure how they work together) run the servers and software that set up the games. There are signiv=ficant issues with latency. Latency is the time lag, or gap, between different players. It has to do with each players physical distance to the servers, and possibly what type of connections on the internet. For example, Player A walks around a corner, sees Player B, raises his weapon and begins to fire. But because PLayer A has 2 seconds of latency more than Player B, Player B turns, sees Player A, raises his weapon and kills Play A. Player A clearly shot Player B, but when the KillCam (instant replay from your opponents view) is shown, it appears that Player A never raised his weapon.
Infinity Ward has a website with player forums, and in spite of the fact that they have moderators, players by the hundreds, if not thousands, can get no response to the latency issue from the authors of this game. This latency issue has turned the game into a cartoonish, Ratchet and Clank shoot the hell out of everything game.
If Infinity Ward doesn't attend to this problem, and there are other issues, I won't by anything from Activision again.
