We just purchased this game on Friday, July 4th.
Pros:
Stunning graphics... really top notch!
Great voice acting
Great story line
Interesting use of the hats!
Cons:
Too many "combos" well over 120.
Six axis control is not what it's hyped up to be in this game
Character control is sub par.
Interesting use of the hats!
The graphics and colors are second to none! I have never played a video game before that matches this game in use of color! The scenery and settings are gorgeous. The voice acting is perfect! And although I'm only a couple of hours into the game, the story line so far is truly interesting!
Now the bad part...
To memorize over 120 combinations... which covers all the attacks, defense, stances, etc is more than what many gamers are willing to try to memorize... what works for what, etc!!
The six axis controler needs to be refined considerably.. not sure if this is a problem with the engineering of the controller or the game itself, since this is the first game I've played so far that makes use of motion detection.
Many times you have to use the cone type hats popular among asian agri-workers as a means of hitting multiple targets great distances apart... by bouncing them off a series of gongs! Case in point, I was in a compound high atop a mountain peak and had to throw a hat probably around half a mile or greater to hit a gong with it bouncing back another half mile or so to hit a gong in the compound where I was at... and sometimes you have to do it in a specific order! You actually spend much more time trying to solve the puzzle of hitting these gongs than you do fighting your enemies!
Character control leaves so very much to be desired during the hat throwing. Most times it is difficult to get your heroine positioned properly to throw hats. I DO like the fact that you can do minor mid-course corrections in the trajectory of the hats as it travels out to meet it's target (the camera follows behind the hat as it travels across great spaces to the target gong!) The camera view while following projectiles is spectacular! I love it!
Would I recommend this game to my friends who have the PS3? Yes. Four stars... for both overal and fun... not three.
Wickedly beautiful

Heavenly sword has some of the finest graphics around. The detail of the cut scenes are amazing. You can actually see the internal struggle through the characters facial expressions. The action is a bit on the button mashing side but still loads of fun. The "counter moves" look good even though you sometimes get interrupted in the middle of a combo by some random villain who shouldn't have been able to get through your large sweeping strikes anyway.
Heavenly sword switches up the action by mixing in some levels with an alternate character named Kai. Kai has no striking moves but has a semi-automatic arrow launcher that uses "aftertouch" to guide the arrows to its target. Aftertouch is using the sixaxis controller by tilting it in different directions to score a hit.
Unfortunately the game is on the short side and can probably be finished in about 2 to 3 casual days. 1 day if you go hardcore.
But i really liked all the characters (especially Kai), even roach. And the story isn't too bad.
I say if you can get Heavenly Sword at a good discount go for it, otherwise it is definitely a rental cause for sure it is something PS3 owners shouldn't miss.
Late-
Overall a good experience

It's true, this is one of the most graphically impressive games I've ever seen. Mostly the cutscenes which are of brilliant quality. During a menu screen there is a close up of Nariko's face and she's just looking around and it's one of the best graphic representations of a face I've ever seen in a video game. You can see emotion and life in her expression. Speaking of Nariko she's incredibly beautiful and I never got tired of looking at her and her sexy outfit.
The voice acting is excellent but a little over-the-top sometimes. I still think Uncharted: Drakes Fortune has the absolute best voice acting. Nariko is voiced by Anna Torv, and it's up there with the best female voice acting I've heard (by the way Anna Torv is very pretty in real life and she slightly resembles Nariko).
Gameplay is great but gets repetitive, and the game is too linear. You can mash your way through the normal difficulty level if you want, but to get the most out of this game I learned the numerous combos and perfected the fighting technique, and that's what you have to do if you want to complete the game in Hell mode, which I did. I enjoyed the game a lot more the second time around during Hell Mode because it required good skills and it felt rewarding to pull off slick moves and combos. The control is precise and the fighting system very fast-paced and entertaining. I really enjoyed the Sixaxis controls too, once you get the hang of it, it's great and adds nice variety to the gameplay. During some battle scenes there are hundreds of soldiers on screen at the same time and there's not a hint of slowdown. It's amazing and it shows the talent of the game developers and the power of the PS3.
So it does have some flaws: repetitive, linear, short, the bosses have some cheap moves, the characters are a little over-the-top... but overall I had a really good time with Heavenly Sword.
