I dare say that Heavenly Sword is honestly the single most incredible game I have ever played..... across all platforms. It even made Bioshock seem a bit meh to me.
What truly did it for me is the cast of characters in the game.So much soul, emotion and love was put into each and every one. Each with their own truly unique personalities, movements, gestures...... as a player I found myself becoming enthralled and connected to them. I actually CARED what was happening.... not just -hack slash- hack slash- upgrade weapon - beat boss..... even the bosses had their own unique identities. They made me laugh. Can I take this moment to say that Flying Fox is the awesomest most hilarious villain I've ever had the honor of "dancing" with? So mush "STYLE!" They did such an incredible job with the motion capture..... and it really supports my opinion that Serkis will be a legend in his own right.... sort of like Lon Chaney... innovating what is seen on the screen.
Even more than the games Heroine Nariko..... I became completely enamored with Kai. How can you not love Kai? Sweet... cat-like... innocent and completely dependent on Nariko. Some of my favorite moments of gameplay were when you got the be Kai. She is completely different.... instead of strong goddess like sword swinging toe to toe like Nariko.... Kai is best being fleet footed..... running at her foe and suddenly hopping over their shoulders and bounding away over boxes and low walls to slow their chase, while she gets a few shots off with her cross-bow. Let me also say that these combat bits are awesome as well... when you shoot your arrow... suddenly everything is in "bullet time"... or rather... "arrow time"... and you can guide the arrow with the PS3 controllers tilt sensors... WAY cool.
But more than anything was the cut scenes. Shorts worthy of being made into a film themselves... with acting and graceful sweeping theatrical motion that puts the vast majority of the blockbusters out there to shame. There weren't enough of them. I could watch them over and over.
SPOILER:: So in the end, you are left with Kai..... promising to be the guardian of the sword.... she would hide it.... and hope it will be forgotten........ but will it? I hope not.
Heavenly Sword, PS3s first must own title for 2007?

Heavenly Sword was one of the PS3's most massively hyped games for 2007. A brand new IP from developers Ninja Theory that promised lots of action, interesting characters, and one of the best graphical presentations on the PS3 to date. Some have even compared the game to Sony's other famous action series God of War and referred to the main character Nariko as the female Kratos or "Goddess of War". Does Heavenly Sword deliver? Let's see.
The first thing I must discuss are the graphics. Simply put, Heavenly Sword is beautiful. Not only with it's cutscenes but also with the gameplay. There were times where you would literally have hundreds of enemies on screen at the same time but the game didn't jump or skip, nor did they let up on the visual quality. At its time of release, Heavenly Sword boasted the best graphics on the Playstation 3.
The gameplay is very similiar to your typical action game. It's mostly hack 'n slash with combos you can do for more damage. The only major gripe I have is that for some reason the devs decided to strip Nariko of the ability to jump. One amazing feature that sets the gameplay in Heavenly Sword apart from other games is its use of the Sixaxis tilt function. I'm usually very critical of this feature in games because it seems like a tacky afterthought rather than a useful function, but in Heavenly Sword it is executed perfectly. Using Nariko's friend Kai (the other playable character), you are able to fire her arrows and direct them with the sixaxis tilt function. In fact any objects you throw in the game can be guided with the tilt function. This makes Kai's missions among the best in the game.
I won't go into the story for the as I do not want to spoil it for anyone. I will say that it's very well told and I actually cared about the story and characters in this game.
My only major complaint with this game (like many others), is the lack of replayability. Notice I didn't say length, I said replayability. Seasoned gamers know that action titles have never been very long so I don't take points from Heavenly Sword for being only 8-9hrs. The problem is that after you beat the game there isn't much incentive to play it again. Other action games have unlockable costumes, game modes, challenges, etc. Heavenly Sword only includes a higher difficulty level "Hell Mode" for those who want a bigger challenge.
Overall Heavenly Sword was a very enjoyable game. It was well presented, well excuted, and well designed. Though it lacks replayability, it's a game that all PS3 gamers should play at least once. Whether you want to buy or rent.
Awesome game!!!

Well all i can say is this game is awesome... is really great, love combt system, best of all the time. Asides for what people say, its not too repetitive, new combos and trying to get the 3 glyphs in each mission make each fight interesting, avoiding, counterattacking, is the most complicated and at the same time easier combat system ever, making the whole game awesome, the aftertouch is also a great feature. Well yes, its kind of short, but if you buy it jnowing that, youll take the most of each mission, so you dont focus on just getting into the next chapter.
Awesome

It was the second game I got for PS3 and it's already my favorite game. Nice gameplay, good story, and great characters. If only there were more games like this on PS3.
Great Start

Considering that the PS3 wasn't out long before this title came out, I must say I was really impressed with this game.
The game may be short, but the time that you play is extremely fun. Think along the lines of God of War II; it has different fighting styles and blocking system, but it also incorporates the same "mini-game" type of play: during boss battles, etc. The fighting styles have a ranged attack, fast style, and strong style. To block all you have to do is be in the right style. If you're having arrows fired at you, go to the ranged stance to send your blades whirling around you to deflect them.
I showed this game to one of my friends recently and he had a blast. Using the Six-axis was a nice addition when doing "Aftertouch." For instance, when the 2nd character that you play uses her "bow" you fire the arrows and then guide them with the PS3 controller. This takes some getting used to, but is fun. The main character of Heavenly Sword can use Aftertouch when throwing things (or firing from a cannon), which includes bodies.
The voice acting and cutscenes are great. You can tell that they really put a lot of work into it. There are a couple annoying characters that I could do without, but the main villain is hilarious.
A Beautiful Game

I want to say one thing first for everyone that says "the game is too short." I have had my PS3 now for about 2 months and I can honestly say that I have not played a game yet (minus Oblivion) that I could not beat in 2 days. However, the REAL quality of game isn't how short the actual game is, but if you want to pick it up and play it again after you have beat it. With that being said, this game is easily one of the most beautiful games I have played as of yet. Everything from the backgrounds during battles, the shear amount of enemies that are on the screen, the cutscenes, everything about this game is graphically superior to just about anything I have seen for this genre of game. The story is engrossing and truly worth playing the game. Once you get use to it, the motion control used for throwing is definitely something different and very fun (being able to manually guide a dead body into several other attacking enemies like bowling pins was, for some odd reason, very linerating). A strong female lead character was a much needed boost to the "hack and slash" genre and very much the best route to take. It made the story that much better. Yes, the game is short, but I found myself going back to levels after beating them to get that coveted three emblem rating. If you loved God of War, buy this game. It will be worth the time you put into the first time and all the other times you play it.
Well executed, but poorly conceived

Heavenly Sword is an extremely well put together game with good graphics, excellent cinematography, and solid gameplay. The music and sound effects are adequate, but unremarkable. The storyline, script, and dialog are some of the worst in modern gaming history, although the voice acting is well done.
The gameplay makes impressive use of the SIXAXIS controls. They are tricky to get the hang of, but work much better than most PS3 implementations of the motion controls once you learn it. The system utilizing the motion controls is called "aftertouch". Basically after you use a ranged attack, you can control the object as a guided missile.
The hack and slash combat system gets repetitive and boring, but at least mixes it up a little bit with 3 different "stances", one for breaking through blocks, one for quick attacks, and one for extended range attacks. There is also a counter system that is a little tricky to execute.
Some of the cutscenes can be pretty gruesome and disgusting, even though the title is only rated T for teens. The game is set in a primitive medieval world, with some fantasy elements, but also horror and more brutal portrayals of reality than other games in similar settings.
I found the script uncompelling, and felt I was being dragged through a torturesome storyline just to get to play the next level. The emphasis in this game was obviously on finding people talented in graphic design and cinematography, not writing talent. It's really a pity, because this game had the potential to be much better. But it does show what the PS3 is capable of, and is a preview of better games to come.
This title is a good option as a rental, but probably not a good choice for your PS3 library now that better titles are coming out.
I need more games like this

Such a fun game.
Pros:
-Graphics were killer
-Storyline/ plot was kick butt
-Controls very easy to get used to
-Many opportunities to save (so you can actually leave the house without it being on pause for hours!)
-Easy to go back and perfect a section without doing whole game over
-Unlockable art/videos/making ofs/in-game cut scenes
-Unlockable harder modes (Hell Mode. I kinda chickened out of trying that one)
-Aftertouches and character change (you can play two different characters and you can guide projectile weapons into objects, people).
-Good use of six-axis!
-Like an interactive movie.
Cons:
-Camera does not like to be manually moved
-Seemed kinda short (took 10 hours to beat and that was with me getting my butt kicked for 3 hours on the last 2 battles)
-I got my butt kicked for 3 hours on the last 2 battles!
If I had to compare the gameplay to another game, Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks would be it. You can use different combos (utilizing L1, R1, Triangle, Square, and occasionally circle). It shows you the combos you have already by pausing it and it has COMBO MOVES right there for ya! Very handy when in butt kicking 3 hour battles.
Very fun, very beautiful game. Wish there was a sequel/more games like this. Occasionally the battles did get tiring but they were (relatively) simple to pass to get on with the story lines. Some things (like opening doors or accessing certain areas) made you figure it out on your own, but was not ridiculous.
Would recommend playing.
Great game, but it needs WAY more refinement!

Heavenly Sword is grand and epic, incredibly beautiful and a good title to show off the power of the PlayStation 3. However, aside from its aesthetic quality, it seems almost as though this game was rushed out to give the PS3 a killer title at a crucial time.
The good: Gorgeous graphics, stunning surround sound, ultra-crisp high-definition, and probably the most gorgeous cutscenes I've ever seen in ANY video game...ever. Strong voice-acting and decently-developed characters also add to the beauty. DualShock 3 compatibility (added WAY after the release of the game) is really nice. They took their time with this aspect!
The bad: Terrible, TERRIBLE frame-rate issues. When Nariko moves around, the entire screen becomes a choppy mess...from her movements to the scrolling and panning of the background. When you're hoarded by countless soldiers, it's hard to know what you're doing because the animation is so crappy. And on that note, the fighting goes on way too long and is way too tedious. God of War was a button-masher, but it was balanced and executed very well. Heavenly Sword takes button-mashing to a whole new level...it's just too much! The enemies just keep on coming, and you can't even see yourself. You just mash the buttons and impatiently wait for it to end. The Sixaxis controls are awful, but at least you can turn them off. I much preferred guiding my arrows and cannonballs with my analog stick. Finally, the short length of the game is notable. Definitely not worth $[...], but I got it used for about half that, and it's worth that much. By the end of the game, I didn't really want it to go on anyway.
Overall, this is definitely worth a rent. The bad gameplay is well worth the cutscenes that follow and the unfolding of the story. I would like to see a sequel where all the issues are worked out. I don't regret buying this game, but I'm glad that I didn't pay $[...] for it!
Phenomenal game. Plain and simple.
