Reknown Skeptic says - BEST button masher ever!!!

Ok. Its a button masher. Sure. Any angle you look at it, you're going to be mashing buttons. However; the style of the mashing - the variety in which you can do it- along with the immersion of the storyline; amazing emotional expression of characters; ridiculous visuals; cinematic quality of the game... All of this redefines the "button masher" genre. Sure, its high intensity action, all the time, but its always involved, always changing. Varying up your styles as see fit, getting crazy super styles, watching slow mow action take place, all while feeling the plight of the main character in high def. I gotta say, after i downloaded the demo i was not superbly impressed. But I decided to give the game a chance so I rented it (After reading the reviews). And now I can't take my hands off the controller. Trust me, I hate button mashing third person fighting games, I always have. But you must give this one a chance. It is in a class by itself... much more than just the "king" of button mashing fighting games, more of a god, almost Heavenly.
Plus she is pretty damn hot for a 3d animation, too. However, i still am not sure about buying it to own. If i did, it would be merely for artistic expression, like a painting on the wall. Although the gameplay may be short, this is definitely a masterpiece, a beginning of the true immersion offered by next generation gaming...
Best PS3 game to come out so far!

This is a stunningly beautiful game that is a must have for a ps3 owner. While the game isn't a saga it is an immensely enjoyable experience. The entire production matches that of a blockbuster movie and keeps your attention from beginning to end. The graphics are absolutely stunning. The game play appeals to both casual and hardcore gamers alike. It is the unique blend of story, acting, and beautifully immersive world that makes this game a masterpiece.
Wow, wow, WOW!!!

I'm completly and utterly in love with this videogame. It has it all!!! The story, the music, the cinematics, the characters... is like a big time movie where you get to control the characters!!! *.*
I love the feel of the game, as if you really where there, with some incredible nice dialogues, and with a way to make it look so real, so like if you were really there...
All the villains are unique in their characterization, all have some incredible personal that makes them what they are, and not even less so Bohan, the big bad guy of the story who believes himself good in his actions.
Nariko is just an amazing female lead much to the heights of the incredible Lara Croft, and being Crof my idol, that cumpliment goes a long way!
The game in itself is good, and you got to play with two differents characters, Nariko, with her swords, and Kai, with her longbow. I have to admit that the first times that I had tyo play with Kai I was a little annoyed because she's not as strong as NAriko is, but after a couple of missions I also fell in love with her!!! It's a gorgeous character!!! *.*
The cinematics of the game are something that adds very beautifully and positively to the game, and the music creates an unique atmosphere taht envelopes all the game.
And what's more!!! Syxsaxis!!! Yes!!! With missions that are so good and fun!!! The first time that I got to play with the syxsaxis in the game I was like "OMG, what the f**k is that? How does it works?", but then you get the knack of it, and it's so funny!!! XDDD The same when you use the arrows to kill the soldiers to save Shen!!! I had to do this missions more than two or three times, but I loved it!!!
All in all, this is as good a game as it gets, really!!! Recommend it one hundred per cent!!!
sweet, but short

This game is a joy to play. The graphics are good on a Standard definition TV, but in HD they are on another level. For God of War veterans, don't expect the surface similarities to translate to the gameplay. GOW is agressive and overpowering combat, Heavenly Sword is defensive combat and counterattacking. So there is a learning curve with the gameplay. But if you hang in there you'll discover a deep combo system. That isn't necessary to proceed through the game, but still fun. Speaking of fun, I was hesitant and even frustrated with the side character Kai at first, but once I turned of the motion sensor for her parts I found "twing-twang" to be some of the best fun I've ever had playing a game. All in all there is a healthy amount of action. Some scenes blow anything from the Dynasty Warriors franchise, with what maybe (not like I have time to count) over a thousand warriors on screen. The bosses are all huge and in HD you have a new appreciation for the detail put into these main characters. Even the acting, which often is atrocious when it comes to video games, is superb. Andy Serkis really blows you away.
The only drawback I have about the game is the very short nature of it. There just simply isn't enough of a good thing. You do get to go back and play any chapter you've completed, even before beating the game, but you still want more. I guess that's a good thing. Here's to hoping there is a good long sequel, because more games of this calibur are needed on my PS3.

Excellent. Nothing more to say. If you're a fan of the God of War series this is a must on the PS3. Great graphics, interesting story line, amazing control. This game is definately more than just a hack and slash game. Only downfall...could be a little longer only about 15-20 hrs to complete.
What more could you ask for from a hack-n-slasher?

This game is absolutely fantastic!
Pros: Gorgeous graphics, great controls, a deep plot, and a soundtrack by none other than Nitin Sawhney (international/chillout guru).
Cons: approximately 6 hours of gameplay, give or take.
Would I recommend you buy this game if you have a PS3? ab-so-lutely.

This is the most fun I've had in gaming since...well, probably ever. Heavenly Sword is an amazing amazing game. Seriously, holy crap! If you haven't played it, rent it right now. Stop reading reviews and get it! My brother and I rented it for two hours while we were waiting for Assasin's Creed to be released. We played AC for one night, then brought it back to get Heavenly Sword again.
Why is it one of the best games ever? GAMEPLAY. The controls and actual gameplay is simply the best I've ever experienced. Call of Duty 4 is close, but still not as perfect. You are totally immersed in this game. Everyone talks about how beautiful the game is--which is spot on--but it's how well the game actually plays that makes it better than the rest.
This game is great for a novice "button masher" who will enjoy that even with no skills at gaming they can still slaughter a bunch of people. But for gamers who master the actual combo moves, etc., the incredible near-cinematic moves are both visually stunning and just freaking awesome. It's like you're playing a movie.
While it's true that it's not the longest game in the world (a bit longer than Call of Duty 4, I'd say), I guarantee that the reason people complain about that is that they were GLUED to their consoles right away and played until they finished it. Then they were so in love that they wanted the game to go on so that they could keep enjoying it. You'll feel the same way. But it's okay, just play it again. For me, it didn't loose it's playability--fighting 50 guys at a time with divinely inspired moves just doesn't get old somehow :)
I will be the first in line when the sequel comes out.
Very pretty game, but not very easy to complete.

Since there are 71 other reviews of this game so far, I'm not going to rehash everything. The graphics are great, the story is nifty, the combos look great, the use of the Sixaxis controller is innovative and makes sense. Length of this game is not so short that I would complain about it. Strangely enough, even though this game shines graphically, it still plays at 720p, not 1080p.
This game is very similar to Dynasty Warriors, except the bad guys don't die as easily (luckily, there are fewer of them), and there are fewer power-ups dropped. Unfortunately, there is no dual-player mode like Dyanasty Warriors.
One big issue I had was that there are portions of this game, some outside of a fight, and some within a fight, that a specific combination of timed button pressing and joystick moving is needed to succeed. This doesn't appear to be affected by the difficulty level, so even at the easiest level, my younger kids (and myself) have a problem completing the first few tries. It would be great if there was a "kiddie mode" that makes these events either auto succeed or are much more forgiving.
Overall, this game is definitely recommended.
